Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 101: Ch : Super Human Project - Part 2
"These super humans...how many can you produce at a given time? No, that doesn’t matter. I will take them all."
"No, we will take them. We can pay you in money and food."
"Well, we can give you weapons and military power. So consider choosing us first..."
People began to fight in order to get their hands on these genetically enchanted humans. They did not care what they had to sacrifice, nor that they were buying human life.
In front of safety and protection, nothing seemed to matter.
"This is...so awful. Those humans...are they really alright?"
Lilianna asked with a sick look on her face. As a former doctor, the thought of modifying humans in such a way was terrifying. Especially since a single mistake could cause these humans to live a life far worse than death.
Andrew immediately stood in front of her to make sure she was not seen by anyone.
"Lilianna, I know how you feel. But for now, control your expressions. Letting your displeasure be seen by everyone is not a good thing at the moment."
Everyone around them looked far too excited at this discovery. It was as if they had found a new shiny toy to play with.
"But I...fine. I will not say anything."
In the end, Lilianna knew that she wouldn’t be able to make a difference alone. And despite her displeasure, the world would not stop doing what they needed to.
Thief continued to make his deal, now happy that he had all the support.
"We will continue improving. The Peace Cooperation would soon become a pillar of support for the society. So make sure you keep in touch with us."
Thief looked at Andrew and his crew when he said that. He sounded proud of what he had been able to achieve.
Lilianna decided that she had enough, and even Clara looked sick.
"Let’s head back."
Andrew told his team, and they left the conference room while Thief was busy. Thankfully, no one around them paid attention.
They had not gone very far when Emperor suddenly paused. Andrew also heard the sound of footsteps running toward him, and he turned around, only to see a small form rushing toward him.
The kid noticed him as well and immediately grabbed his pants.
"P-Please, help me. They will turn me into a mindless husk. I do not want to grow up faster and lose my free will."
The kid pleaded, his eyes looking at Andrew with desperation, and he kept looking back with a frightened face.
It did not take long for a lady dressed in a white coat to reach them as well, and she looked startled at first, but then her expression turned gentle.
"Excuse me, but may I ask you to hand over this kid to me? He’s a little sick and needs treatment. But he has been rejecting it all this time."
The female doctor sounded so gentle and persuasive that anyone would have fallen for her words. But Andrew was not the one who trusted people so easily. Especially not when they had a kid so terrified.
"This kid is sick? Then, let me see. I am a healer, so I should be able to cure him."
Lilianna stepped forward, and her determination made the doctor’s smile stiffen.
"Please, don’t bother. This kid’s suffering from something special that doesn’t show up in scans-"
"Don’t worry. My power is from the system. If there is anything wrong with this kid, then I will know immediately."
Lilianna promised as she reached for the kid and used her powers. She frowned as she healed the kid and saw the damage that had been done to him.
It was not normal. The way the human body was behaving was too weird.
"Miss, I...do not feel well..."
The kid complained as the damage done to him was being reversed.
The female doctor saw this and panicked. She immediately yanked the kid back before he could be healed fully.
"What do you think you are doing? Do you have any idea how much we struggled to get these results? Let me check...tsk, we will have to start from the beginning..."
She complained with a frown on her face, but Lilianna was not letting go.
"This kid does not want to go with you. Let him go."
"He does not have a choice. This is what he agreed to when he said that he wanted to live. Miss, let go before I report you for obstructing my mission."
The doctor warned, and their fighting attracted attention. It was so loud that even Thief ended up finding them.
"What is going on here?"
He asked, and the doctor immediately spoke up.
"These people are obstructing my progress with the super human experiment. We spent so many resources to enhance this kid, and she just...ugh..."
The doctor sounded frustrated, and Thief sighed.
"I know that it is tough and you are having a hard time, but please continue like this. The survival of humankind depends on your efforts."
He told the doctor, and she looked flustered all of a sudden. Her face looked red, and she stuttered.
"I...of course. I will do my best."
She agreed before she left. She gave one last look behind before she tugged the child (who had given up on escaping) after her.
"Hey wait-! It is not over-"
"Miss Lilianna, I know you are worried about that kid and want to help him. If your interference will only make it harder for him to live. Unless you want to take responsibility for his life...but what about the next kid who asks for help...or the one after that. Can you confidently protect them all?"
Thief asked, and Lilianna fell quiet. But he disregarded this and continued.
"Everyone is struggling in these tiring times, and kids are the easiest prey the system has. We do not have time to teach them to gain power, so this is the best course of action for them if they want to live. But this is just temporary. We will soon find a solution that will be better than this, and no more kids will have to be sacrificed."
"Soon, we will find a solution that will allow kids to remain as kids. I promise you that. It’s just...a few sacrifices need to be made along the way. Besides, these kids agreed to the contract. They will have to abide by it and so will I."
Thief sounded confident and remorseful, and Lilianna had to bite her lip to stop her rage.
