Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 106: Ch : New Slave...I mean, workers
"Your property is wayyyy too big and wayyyy too bothersome. Do you think more pests managed to worm their way in here?"
Clara asked as she looked around the cabin they had reached. It looked used, but there was no one currently inside, which made it easier for them to look around.
"What do you want him to do about it? Burn it all down?"
Seraphina questioned, and Clara instantly became defensive.
"That is not what I meant...someone is coming back. We should get ready."
The traps had been reused by Clara around the house, and as soon as the group entered, they triggered them, causing the group to get caught in the trap.
"W-What the hell is this...ugh, I feel trapped. What is happening here?"
People who were suddenly caught in the trap questioned each other, but they had no answer for what happened.
Andrew stepped into their line of sight, and they all turned to look at him at once. Jenna’s face was especially wide, and her mouth opened and closed as she thought of what to say to him.
"So, would you like to make any excuse for why you are here?"
He asked, and Jenna remained quiet. The leader, on the other hand, decided to speak up.
"This is really not a good way to treat your guests. Do you have any idea how much we helped your fiancé out? This should be the least of our rewards."
"Fiancé? Ah, so you fell for her lies as well. The proper term here would be ex-fiancé, to be precise. We no longer have anything to do with each other."
Andrew pointed out to the people in front of him, and they looked shocked.
Their eyes immediately turned to look at Jenna, who turned her face away from them with a flush on her face.
"Jenna, is this true? Did you...deceive us?"
Someone else from the group asked, and Jenna immediately reacted.
"No...I mean, I told you that I knew Mark and we were engaged for a while. I never said that engagement was ongoing or anything...but so what? If you all helped me, then I helped you out as well..."
Jenna pointed out, and Andrew immediately saw a pop-up appear in front of him.
[Truth-And-Lies has been triggered. People are starting to believe your words. Memories will be fabricated in the target’s mind. The effect will last as long as people continue to believe your words.]
"You are right. You did help us out..."
"How could we have forgotten all about it..."
"That is right! Jenna is a good person who helped us out a lot. It must be Mark Dawnson’s fault for what is happening."
Slowly, the group began to agree with Jenna, causing them to change their tone. Their anger turned from Jenna and toward him.
"Huh-! What is wrong with you people? Are you blaming Andrew for something that is clearly not his fault? Just how unreasonable can you people be?"
Clara asked, but Andrew stopped her. He was suddenly interested in Jenna’s ability, since he had never seen anything like this before.
He wanted to test it a little more.
"Oh, so Jenna helped you out a lot? What did she help you out with specifically?"
Andrew asked, and the people paused to think.
The more they thought about it, the more memories poured into their minds. But when they opened their mouths, those memories started to flow like water, and they were not able to explain it.
"I don’t know how she helped, but I am sure she did. What is it to you..."
This ability seemed very useful, and Andrew suddenly felt the urge to copy it. That would be his second copied ability, and he wouldn’t be able to copy more.
But copying this ability would mean making sure Jenna does not die in the future.
’What a hassle. But it seems useful in the long run. It seems worth it to make an investment at the moment.’
And if not, then Andrew could always get rid of her later down the line.
"We should take care of these fools right now before they get a big head. Do you want me to knock them down and throw them out?"
Clara asked in a tight voice. She and the others stood behind Andrew, ready to do as he asked at a moment’s notice.
"No, it’s fine. I would like to offer these people a contract. I don’t mind if they want to live on my land, but if they are going to do it, then they need to follow some rules and also earn their keep. Did you not want more helpers, Clara?"
Andrew asked, and Clara nodded carefully.
"I did want more helpers to expand the farms. But these people are..."
"Don’t worry. If they are under a contract, they won’t be able to do much. But even if they try, I doubt they would be able to do much anyway."
Seraphina pointed out, and Clara looked relieved.
"I see. In that case, I would like to accept this extra help."
She agreed, and Andrew nodded. He bought eleven contracts from the inventory and modified them to make them advantageous to himself.
"I am going to give you all a chance to save your lives. If you sign this contract, then you will be allowed to live here without any questions. However, you will have to stay out of the way and earn your keep. Also, you will not be able to harm us in any way. If you are ready to sign it, then tell me."
Andrew told them all, and they hesitated.
But Jenna’s party realized that this was their only path to freedom. If they did not sign these contracts, then they would be forever stuck in these traps.
"Alright, I will do it-! I will sign this contract."
The leader agreed, and others agreed as well. They were let out, and they signed the contract.
Only Jenna was left, and she looked sick at the thought of signing a contract and becoming a subordinate of Mark Dawnson, someone she had always looked down upon.
