Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 59: Ch : Second Temple - Part 2
"W-We are all going to die. The b-beast has been released. We were under strict orders to never let it leave...this was not supposed to happen..."
The guard whispered as he rolled on the ground. The toy-soldier design made it especially hard for it to turn around.
The other guards looked crushed at the beast’s appearance as well. One of them, who was near Andrew, grabbed his collar to pull him backward.
"This is all your fault. For centuries, we have been stationed here to protect the world from this beast, and now you go unleashing it. Ugh, now we will all die..."
A few soldiers sobbed, yelling something about their ’precious family,’ and a better person would have felt guilty.
But Andrew had long since adapted to the mentality that this was just a game, and all of these people around him were not real. That was his way to cope with his heavy burdens.
"Tsk, stop yelling and help us out. Andrew, do we have a chance against this thing?"
Seraphina asked from where she was dodging the attacks. She had been playing the system’s game as long as Andrew had, and she was also quick to pick up the context clues. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
She was already aware that Andrew had an ability that allowed him to gauge how strong someone was.
Andrew was also not surprised by Seraphina’s words. She was a sharp person, and he was not hiding his abilities from her anyway. So he quickly turned to look at the beast she was facing.
[Enemy Name: Awakened Guardian of the Temple (Lv 29). Special Characteristic: Super fast. Might explode if HP falls under 10%]
"We should be able to kill this thing. I don’t see fast regeneration or healing anywhere on this boss. But it is extremely fast...and can explode at critical health"
Andrew warned Seraphina seconds before the beast picked up pace and she found it hard to keep up with it.
"Yeah-! I noticed. Tsk, it is kind of hard to hit this beast."
She replied back as she barely blocked the strikes.
Andrew dropped the barrier from around himself and formed one around her to give Seraphina a better chance of fighting the beast. It saved her life and also allowed her to make a good counterattack.
"What should we do to help Seraphina out? We cannot allow her to keep fighting alone, right?"
Clara asked as she looked at the fast-changing action. Her eyes were barely able to keep up, much less her own actions. She kept raising and lowering her hand, not knowing if she should use her ability or not.
Her indecisiveness caused many guards around her to flinch, and they quickly ran away. Those who had something to protect or were bound by duty decided to stay back.
"Clara, try to create small obstacles for the enemy to trip over. It might not kill him, but it will make the fight much more inconvenient for it."
After all, it was not as if Seraphina was doing no damage to the beast. Seraphina was experienced in fighting, and she knew where to attack in order to take advantage of injuring the beast.
That alone made this fight worth continuing.
"I...alright, I will try."
Clara agreed before she concentrated her power to make small knots around the beast’s claws. The beast tore them apart quickly, but a few seconds of delay gave Seraphina enough time to land a powerful blow.
Andrew also took advantage of this and immediately made a blast on the beast’s face. He wanted to compromise the beast’s vision, causing it to crash out...and it worked.
The beast let out a loud howl, causing it to thrash around at the injury. It was slowly but surely taking damage.
One second, the boss was fighting for its life, the next second it paused and its body began to shine pinkish-blue.
"Tsk, Seraphina, come here. It’s about to explode..."
Andrew yelled, and Seraphina quickly ran toward him seconds before Andrew threw a barrier around the beast to contain its blast.
His barrier was boosted by his buffs, and he was even using skill share to boost his attack for the barrier.
And yet, the 29-level difference put a lot of strain on his shoulders, causing him to pant as he tried to force more of his mana into the barrier.
"Hey kid, keep holding on. Our lives are on your shoulders as well."
The guard reminded him, but Andrew did not care about their lives as much as they thought he should. He just had a feeling that this was his only chance to end the boss.
The boss tried to fight against his barrier, and Andrew felt his barrier falter.
"No...Nononononono...here, take this potion. I was saving it for emergencies, but this is pretty much an emergency, right? I would rather prefer to live than to save the potion for later."
Clara declared as she took out a pinkish bottle before she emptied it on top of Andrew’s head.
[A boosting potion has been used on you. All your stats will double for 1 day]
Suddenly, it became so much easier to deal with the beast, but Andrew’s heart felt heavy.
A stat-boosting potion was not easy to get. Especially since it was not available in the shop. It was something you either had to get specially commissioned by a highest-class buffer, or get lucky and get it as a system reward.
And now, that same potion had been used on him by Clara unknowingly.
"You...should not have done that."
Andrew told Clara as he finally stabilized his barrier and the monster self-destructed inside there.
Clara had a bashful expression on her face, but she did not look sad at what she had sacrificed during this fight.
"Hmm, it’s fine. I would rather be alive and have you alive than hold on to that potion for a future I might never see. Honestly, you should just thank me for it and be done here."
Clara cheerfully spoke as she turned around and headed toward the temple. Her mood was one which Andrew could not pinpoint. She looked happy, but there was just a hint of sorrow beneath it all.
"Leave her be. I am sure she has some things to work out here. Besides, there is no need for you to feel guilty. She made the decision of using her potion herself."
Seraphina reminded Andrew, causing him to sigh.
"I am not feeling guilty or anything. I have no reason to feel those emotions regarding Clara."
Andrew reminded Seraphina, but she just leveled him with a calm look, which was followed by an awkward silence.
