Chapter 64: Ch 64: Crowning a New Queen

At any other time and location, Andrew would have worried about taking on an enemy that was 10 levels higher than him. However, due to the boosting potion’s effects, he was currently much more powerful than normal.

The chess queen was just an elite mob boss with not much intelligence beyond her character. So she did not know of the difference in their skills.

As per the game’s rules, she initiated the first attack, only to be met with Andrew’s shield.

He wasted no time in counter-attacking back, his spell hitting the throne behind the queen, who dodged out of the way and shattered it.

The queen looked angry with him, and her own spells increased in strength. But Andrew countered each of her spells with his own. And not only countered, but he overpowered her as well.

"A human like you has a limit. No matter how much power you exert, you are bound to hit your limit quickly."

The queen warned as she focused on defence. Her guards were already defeated by this point, so she focused some of her attacks on the people behind Andrew to not only distract him, but also catch them off-guard.

It did not work as she expected, but the queen did not show her disappointment.

Andrew concentrated his firepower to force her back, and the queen followed his rhythm, unknowing that he was leading her to her doom.

The queen realized too late that she was playing into his hand, but once she did, she immediately tried to break free and land a solid hit against him.

"How dare you-! Y-You arrogant human..."

Queen yelled, and her body shone red.

[The chess queen has started to evolve. Her awakened state will raise her level up by 10 for one hour. To stop her, injure her fatally while she is undergoing transformation.]

The system warned Andrew, causing him to feel a little shocked. But truthfully, he should have seen this coming.

The game was too unbalanced in the player’s favor right now, with their sheer numbers and the cheats available to them. Of course, the boss would have some hidden mechanics to balance these things out.

"Seraphina, Emperor, we need to stop the boss before it reawakens."

Andrew warned, and he immediately blasted the queen with everything he had.

The queen immediately staggered and took massive damage. But she endured all those spells and continued to rise.

"Will magic not work?"

Andrew asked as he prepared another spell and launched it.

Both Emperor and Seraphina took advantage of the situation to attack the queen as well. But the queen suddenly raised her hand, and a puppet blocked their way.

[Queen’s guard (level 25)]

"Tsk, another boss mechanic?"

Emperor asked, now forced to block the attack. But Seraphina quickly disposed of the guard in front of her, her higher level helping her overpower the shadow.

They both suddenly felt a buff increasing their strength, and they nodded at Lilianna in acknowledgement.

While Lilianna buffed them, Clara was locked with another shadow guard who came after her and Lilianna.

The second shadow guard attacked her, but Emperor quickly turned around to help them out. That allowed Seraphina the freedom to move toward the boss.

"Andrew, keep going and leave the close combat to me."

Seraphina yelled, and Andrew nodded. He continued to fire off spells after spells, and the queen took substantial damage. But she refused to die.

The queen raised her hand and sent a shadow toward Andrew. She had been successfully distracted by him and did not notice Seraphina’s sword heading toward her chest.

The sword cleaved her chest cleanly, and the queen finally collapsed.

[Congratulations. You have overthrown the queen. Please choose another queen from this world before the timer ends.]

"D-Did we do it? Thank god. Ugh, my legs have no strength left in them."

Clara collapsed, and her legs shook. She looked exhausted, and Lilianna was not in any better shape.

"You both did well. You can rest while we tackle the last problem."

Andrew told the pair, and they nodded. Lilianna looked like she wanted to say more, but in the end, she held her tongue and closed her eyes.

"Tsk, what a problem. We need to choose a queen? Is there even an NPC around?"

Emperor asked as he looked at the last request. He was not good at such stuff, so he felt like he was out of his depths.

Andrew also began to rack his brain for what they should do when Seraphina suddenly started to walk toward the still-present body of the chess queen.

Emperor, who was suspicious of her movements, immediately moved as well and grabbed her arm.

"What are you doing? Just because this fool trusts you does not mean I will as well."

Seraphina tried to break the hold on her, but she did not try hard enough. Emperor held on to her arm with suspicion in his eyes as he gestured toward Andrew.

The tension in the air was thick enough to be cut through by a knife.

In the end, Seraphina had to give an explanation for her actions.

"I will take the crown and become the queen of this game. I am still an NPC right now, and unless you have a better idea, let me do this. We are in a time crunch right now."

She reminded Emperor.

He still did not look convinced that she was telling the truth, but he decided to pull his hand back and allow her to continue.

Seraphina did not spare him a single glance as she reached for the crown and grasped it.

[A new queen has been chosen. Game 9 has concluded. All players will be transported back in 10 minutes.]

[Please redeem your reward before the 10-minute timer expires. Rewards will expire after the window closes.]

"Only 10 minutes? How is this fair? I need time to think..."

Clara panicked and immediately opened the reward window. Her panic caused others to follow her.

Andrew felt torn between asking Seraphina questions and gathering his reward. In the end, he decided to get the reward quickly, but when he looked up, Seraphina was gone.

He did not want to look too eager, but his eyes kept looking around for her.

"If you are looking for Seraphina, she disappeared seconds ago...just like all other NPCs. So she really was an NPC all this time? What will happen to her now?"

Andrew did not have an answer. His heart felt heavy as he thought about Seraphina.

"She...will be fine. I am sure we will meet her again soon."
