Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 89: Ch : A Second Invite
The blade of ice almost cut Seraphina’s cheek before she managed to dodge it. Just then, another blade of ice headed toward her, and once she dodged it, her sword immediately clashed with a sword made of ice.
Normally, a sword made of ice should not have been able to take the impact of Seraphina’s sword, but this sword was different.
Not only did it hold up well, but it was also making the metallic substance of Lilianna’s temporary sword colder and harder to hold.
Seraphina was about to use her abilities once more when she heard a gasp and felt Queen stagger backward.
"What the-! What hit me...? A frying pan...?"
Queen questioned as she looked around and saw the material that had fallen not too far away from her.
Seraphina took advantage of this and pushed Queen against a tree, holding her neck in a vulnerable position.
"Wait-! Stop-! This is not right. We are not here to cause trouble. I apologize for Queen’s actions. And you-! Can’t you not cause me trouble just once? Thief would be so disappointed in you..."
Andrew and the others also came out quickly to check what was going on.
Mandarine and Queen stood in front of them, and Mandarine quickly apologized. He looked ashamed, but Queen did not seem as if she was interested in apologizing for her actions.
"Oh no-! My poor plants. Do you know how much I struggled to get them to grow? These babies were our food source..."
Clara looked crushed, and for good reason. Queen’s ability had frozen over all her hard work.
"I-I apologize. Queen is also sorry..."
Mandarine did not know what to do or how to act. He had come here because Thief had told him to bring Mark Dawnson and his party back with him... or at least get the extra beacon they had so that they could host more people.
But now this disaster had happened, and it looked unsalvageable...
"So, what brings you here? What does Thief need now?"
Andrew did not beat around the bush and asked Mandarine openly. Mandarine looked both relieved and a little shaken at the question.
But it was Queen’s displeased look that made him snap out of it, and he quickly took charge of the situation before she could make it much worse.
"Ahhhh, about that... He told me to ask you about the offer he made. Are you going to join our base? Your firepower will be really useful in defending our base, and it will also give you opportunities to gain a lot of ranks in the rankings..."
Rankings...
Andrew had forgotten that there was a ranking system in this game until now. It was not something he was concerned about before.
But since it had been brought up, he decided to take a look.
[Player Name: Mark Dawnson (Lvl 23). Global Rank: 60. Total Monsters Killed: 546]
[Player Name: Emperor (Lvl 22). Global Rank: 54. Total Monsters Killed: 987]
[Player Name: Seraphina (Lvl 24). Global Rank: 66. Total Monsters Killed: 465]
These ranks were not bad, but they were not good either.
Andrew himself had killed close to 200 monsters in the last fight, and the other two had clearly killed more in his absence. But the players in the top ten were already in the four-digit mark.
Richard Dominus was currently No. 1 with over 10,645 kills, which felt impossible to catch up to.
Thankfully, the goal was not to reach the top spot, but to somehow get into the top ten.
"So, Thief wants us to join him and help him out?"
Andrew asked, and Mandarine nodded.
"Yes."
Queen made an unhappy face, but since it was Thief’s orders, she held herself back. Andrew exchanged a look with Emperor and Seraphina before turning back to Mandarine.
"I have no intention of leaving this base, but I won’t stop anyone from leaving if they want to head to your base either."
Andrew said this more for the sake of the refugees in his camp than anyone else. He knew that they wanted to leave, but the only reason they had not was because it was not safe for them to do so.
But now that the opportunity had arrived, they could leave.
However, their hopes were quickly dashed by Mandarine.
"That... won’t be possible. The reason we were ready to accept you was because you would bring your beacon with you, allowing us to have more people. But without a beacon, we won’t be able to accept more people..."
Mandarine was very politely trying to reject the refugees, and they looked crushed.
But there was a very easy solution to this mess, and one look at the others told Andrew that they thought the same.
"If all you need to let them in is a beacon, then I have one for you. If I hand it over, then can you take them with you?"
Andrew asked, and the refugees looked beyond shocked. They looked at Andrew, their mouths opening and closing again and again.
"Y-You don’t have to do that..."
They told Andrew, but he did not back down.
Queen and Mandarine exchanged a look before Mandarine nodded.
"Of course we will take them in if you do that. But... just this once, can you accompany us to the base? We suddenly have too many people to protect, and I am afraid that something might happen on the way."
It was a trap, and Andrew knew it. But he took the bait despite knowing that.
"Alright, we will accompany you all back to the base for now. Just give us a few minutes."
Andrew told Mandarine before his party went inside.
"This is a trap. They are trying to take us to their base at all costs."
Seraphina pointed out, and Emperor nodded.
Andrew just let out a huge sigh.
"I know that already. But for now, I am going to take this bait. This is the second time Thief has tried to get me to his base openly. There might be a reason behind it."
Andrew’s instincts told him that there was a reason, and he decided to believe them for now.
