Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 96: Ch : Ungrateful People - Part 1
The monster attacked in hopes of catching Andrew and Seraphina off-guard, but it was the one that ended up being seared to ashes. The flames spread around the forested area fast, but Andrew put them out before they could do any real harm.
"Ah, that feels good. I finally let out some of my stress because I trusted you enough to handle the aftermath. Thank you."
Seraphina told Andrew with a smile on her face. Andrew gave her a weak glare, but the look soon turned into a fond one.
They returned to the base with the extra beacons.
[Base capacity: 190/120]
A lot less people had died even after such a huge scaled attack, and both Andrew and Seraphina hurried back to the central hut to put the beacons back in place.
[Beacon has been restored.]
[Base capacity restored.]
[Base Capacity: 190/220]
Finally, the base had returned to normal, and it was safe there. It happened just in time for the timer to start hitting a dangerous number.
[Time left in game 11: 10 hours]
"Phew, we made it in time. This time, I will keep a secure eye on these beacons to make sure they do not get stolen."
Monkey King sounded certain as he came into the base limping. He had not gotten any treatment and made checking up on the situation his first priority.
He was quickly followed by Thief, who had an unhappy expression on his face. His eyes looked grateful when he saw Andrew, and he bit his lower lip, thinking back on what had happened.
When he did speak up, his voice sounded low and grateful, but also careful and calculative.
"Thank you for your help once more. Things could have gotten bad had you not decided to help us out. It all happened because I misinterpreted the timing shown in my ability. I must have seen this attack, not the previous one. Ugh, I should have never let my guard down."
Thief complained, immediately recognizing the mistake he had made...not that Andrew thought that this was the reason things had ended up as they had.
"Boss, don’t say that. It is because of your quick thinking that most of us made it out-"
cough
Seraphina coughed, reminding the pair in front of her who the actual person who saved them was.
"Anyway, you all should stay here for the rest of the game. Now that we have lost a lot of people, we have the capacity to take you all in. It will also help to have some reliable helpers here."
Monkey King pointed out with a happy face. But Andrew had no intention of staying here and becoming a ’helper.’
Thief realized it as well, and he immediately took the lead.
"It’s fine. We should let our saviours decide what they want to do from here on. Holding them back will not be a good thing."
Thief pointed out, and Monkey King looked unhappy with the decision. He was hoping to have extra help in the base.
But Andrew knew well that if he helped this time, these people would start feeling comfortable asking him for help every time for everything.
He would rather nip the bud before it had time to take root.
"I will see what Clara and Lilianna think. It will be up to them to decide whether we head back or not."
Andrew told the pair in front of him as he turned and walked outside. He was well aware of the staring match Seraphina and Thief had, but once again, he pretended not to see it.
When he reached Lilianna and Clara, they were helping people out, and they looked beyond exhausted.
Lilianna especially looked like she was about to collapse due to the strain of her abilities. Even using potions could only get her so far.
"N-Next..."
Her voice sounded faint, and Lilianna fought the sleep threatening to take her over. People ran toward her to be the first one to heal.
"Me next!"
"Do me!"
"No, I am injured more."
"My injuries are much worse..."
People pushed and rushed toward Lilianna, and she was starting to look scared. Before anything could happen, Andrew hurried over to her and stood behind her with a blank look on his face.
His presence made people take a step back, but they soon became a little bolder and came back with more requests.
"C-Can you heal me? M-My hand is broken..."
Lilianna looked at the person who asked her with sympathy in her eyes. She was running herself thin helping, and Andrew finally grabbed her arm to stop her.
His actions caused Lilianna to blink and look at him with startled eyes. Her reaction looked slower compared to any other time, and she felt almost fragile in his arms.
"Andrew...do you need healing as well? One minute...let me heal you...Huh-! I cannot use my abilities...?"
Lilianna tried to use her healing, but she was so exhausted that she could not muster any strength in her arms.
Andrew pulled her up over his shoulder like a sack, and her short body easily fit.
"We are heading back to our base. You have helped here enough. Clara, the same goes for you. We are heading back."
Clara nodded, her exhaustion making it hard for her to move as well. She was ultimately supported by Seraphina while Emperor joined them as well.
"No way-! You cannot do that. We were still healing!"
"Yeah! You cannot take our healer away. We won’t allow you to."
The people raged, not liking the fact that their free healing was being taken away from them by a stranger. These people had no sympathy for the others but cried when they were the ones facing even the slight hint of inconvenience.
Andrew did not like their guts, and that was also the reason he had not wanted to stay here. These free-loaders would drink his team alive if they got a chance to, and he, for one, was not the sacrificing type.
He would rather save a small portion of people he was familiar with than unfamiliar strangers.
"Tsk, come back here..."
Someone tried to grab Lilianna and drag her back from his shoulder, but they never made it that far.
