Reborn As An Extra In My Own Novel-Chapter 41: Kidnapping
Chapter 41: Kidnapping
On a cold rainy morning, two people were making their way through the black slush that coated a rundown tunnel, piling near the rusted pipes jutting from the graffiti-sprayed walls. The loud sound of their steps echoed in the dim light, making it seem as if a monster was chewing on rotten flesh.
Rachel glanced at the dirt covering her expensive boots, then smelled the air and grimaced. Adjusting the collar of her white overcoat, she then glanced at Hari and asked. "Why are we here, exactly?"
Hari shoved her hands into the pockets of her large sweater and shrugged.
"Weren’t you the one who asked where I was going, princess? Well, this is it."
After some time, she clicked her tongue. "Damn princess and acting like she is the ideal student."
"What was that?" the princess asked narrowing her eyes slightly.
Hari narrowed her eyes too then smiled."Nothing princess, I was just grimacing at how cold the weather is outside the academy."
Rachel nodded. "Yes, you’re right. The academy’s temperature system maintains a mild climate year-round."
"Hmm... You seem quite intelligent princess."
Rachel raised her chest. "Well, as the princess of England I learnt basic etiquette, and began studying at a young age, it was around..."
She stopped abruptly and stared at Hari. "You were being sarcastic, weren’t you?"
Hari smiled widely and nodded. "Uh-huh."
"Tch."
Rachel didn’t spare her a single glance and moved forward, her hand curling around the hilt of her sabre.
"So what’s your actual reason for leaving the academy? It can’t be because you just want a stroll, right?"
Hari spread her arms while shaking her head from left to right. "Who knows?"
Rachel narrowed her crimson eyes. ’What is she planning?’
"Since you don’t know why you came out, I suggest we both return. It is a well known fact that this part of the city is very dangerous—even the headmistress doesn’t come near here," Rachel muttered, slowly moving down the tunnel road.
Hari paused in her tracks, which made Rachel tense up a bit. "What?!" she asked.
"Shhh, someone is coming."
The two girls stood, their backs against each other and summoned their vestiges.
A bit of mana leaked from their skin before they quickly withdrew it.
’What now?’ Hari thought, her gloves rumpling slightly as she tightened her knuckle dusters.
"I can sense mana."
"Me too. Do you know what this means, princesa?"
"No."
"You’ve got hell of bad luck"
"Please don’t further agitate me, Cordelia Blackwood."
"Yes ma’am."
The reason why Reins Street was so dangerous and barely patrolled by mages was because of the excessive number of demonic humans and drifters who lived there. It was so bad that not even regular citizens could enter the area.
And that was the exact reason why Hari had come.
Just like Kai, she was experiencing strange memory losses, like: the inability to recall her previous face, no matter how hard she tried, or remember when or how she was born.
’One of them must have an answer,’ she mused, slamming her fists together.
Both she and Rachel’s eyes flickered brightly as they prepared for combat.
In an instant, the nano-atoms given to them by the academy danced across their skin like a creature crawling through them.
A sleek armor formed around their bodies, dragon-scale-like plates layering until a full suit of armor took shape.
An external spine extended from their backs, serving as a source to connect their tethers, which now shone brightly—each marked with a different symbol—to the suit.
A gas mask was firmly secured to their lower faces, shielding them from potential drifter miasma.
The armor was magnificent, its manifestation a wonder to behold.
Hari’s voice was muffled behind the gas mask. "Who are you?" she asked, her gaze filled with subtle fury. "Come out this instant."
"Don’t shout like that, Hari."
Hari’s eyes widened, her stomach churning. The world seemed to slow down as her heart sank deeper into the abyss.
She knew that voice all too well, but couldn’t summon the courage to say it out loud. ’No way. There’s no way.’
"Cordelia! Cordelia! Are you okay?"
Hari’s trembling figure turned to Rachel and uttered one terrifying word, that shook Rachel to the core. "Run!"
Rachel was perplexed by the situation. She knew she wasn’t the best at reading mana particles, but the man standing before her was definitely mundane.
Except for his unnatural beauty, there was nothing special about him.
But that was the problem, even normal humans had at least a trace of mana. Not even S-ranks could mask their mana particles entirely. Which meant only one thing—
"I’ll... try to contact the academy."
Rachel summoned her phone, but none of the keys were dialing. No—the phone was working, but she couldn’t press the right buttons.
Again and again, her trembling fingers tried to type the number, but she failed miserably. ’Am I going to die here?’
The figure smiled slightly and clapped once—
The relentless downpour of rain intensified. And swaying leaves could be heard from miles away.
No other sound could be heard, except for the ringing cellphone lying on the tunnel floor.

Tossing my phone onto my scattered bed, I placed my drier in the drawer by the side of my bed and exhaled heavily.
"Why isn’t she picking up my calls?" I complained.
Hari was never the type to "not be with her phone." In fact, she was the type who’d feel like killing herself if she didn’t have something in her hands—even a glass shaped like a phone would suffice.
But this was quite strange.
As far as I could remember, her strange behavior started after I came back from Nefertari, when she complained about not being able to remember her face or much from our past life. I found it quite odd too, but considering the system said it was due to transmigration, I ignored it.
"Did she go to get answers?"
I gripped my bangs tightly, my face turned toward the ground. "I told her not to run off or do something dangerous."
Letting my bangs drop before lying flat on my back, I sighed. "Hari is an adult, so I shouldn’t worry about her. I have my own problems, too."
I let my hand rest on my chest a little, trying to make the strange feeling of dread disappear, but nothing I tried could calm it.
"Should I try smoking or drinking? I’ve never done either before, but they say a drink removes all worries." My soft chuckle soon turned dark as I stared at the ceiling.
My face was no longer burning, so I was sure I could train a little, but I also didn’t want to disturb Neko-sensei in this kind of weather.
My gaze shifted to my VR pod and then to my laptop.
"Let’s check if my returns from the Bitcoin has come and maybe check the thought section. After that, well..." I turned to the VR, forcing out a smile. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
I needed to calm myself down a little. "I hope Hari is alright." this kind of weather.
