Reborn As An Extra In My Own Novel-Chapter 48: Student Council [1]
Chapter 48: Student Council [1]
The path to the student council office was eerie and silent, primarily because I was heading there at nearly midnight.
By my side were individuals I could confidently say were the closest to me in the academy.
Matt, Amy, Anica, and finally... Reni.
I was walking at the rear of the group alongside Matt while the girls walked ahead, laughing and discussing something neither Matt nor I quite grasped.
I glanced at Matt, who wore a stern expression. "Hmm... Matt."
His eyes, still burning with fury, met mine. "What?"
"Sorry, man. That was my fault."
Matt sighed. "I’m not angry anymore, but I’ll still get back at you, just wait and see."
I smiled. If someone had told me a week ago that I would become friends with the character I created in my lonely apartment and that I would be surrounded by others beyond my family—honestly, I would have labeled them a psycho.
"So why do you think the president is calling us?"
I looked at Matt, then back at the girls, who were in nightgowns, except for Amy, who wore a blue two-piece. "I think the real question is why he’s calling us in the middle of the night while we’re in our night wear."
"Maybe he’s a vampire," Matt said, gesturing with his hands.
I shook my head. "You really are an idiot, you know?"
"Never denied it."
"I’m glad to hear that."
As we continued down the road, Reni glanced at me briefly, then winked, her black gown swaying ever so slightly.
And my foolish self gave her the exact reaction she wanted.
It was still a little awkward between the two of us. But I wasn’t even sure about the emotions I was experiencing yet.
’Calm down, one step at a time.’
Yes, I couldn’t afford to think about love or matters like that when Hari was missing and Deerheart was still very much alive.
And I had no intention of sitting back and dying just because of one prophecy from Reni.
’I have to find a counter major.’
Even if I could only delay my impending death by a little, it would still be worthwhile.
"Elysium and death, huh?" I whispered.
Matt turned to me and asked, "What was that?"
I raised a brow, then relaxed it. "Oh, nothing... We’re here."
Standing right before us were two flat-roofed two-story buildings joined together by a central three-story structure.
The large building was brown with sleek glass panels that shimmered under the full moon.
A manicured lawn bordered all sides, except for the path leading to the entrance.
The five of us slowly made our way toward the front of the building. I briefly glanced upward from the stairway that led to the door.
The symbol of Noctis was present, but instead of its usual silver color, it was golden, accompanied by the words: Student Body.
There was an oppressive aura to it that all of us could feel.
The strongest and most dangerous individuals in the school resided behind that door.
In the world of mages, strength wasn’t everything.
Luck, training, experience, and hacks all played a role in combat.
Take Anica and Neko-sensei as examples.
On paper, Anica might seem stronger than Neko-sensei, being an early S-ranker, while Neko-sensei was a late A-ranker.
But that was far from reality. If, by any chance, Neko-sensei fought Anica, it would be a one-sided battle.
Experience, training, luck, and most importantly, hacks—she was literally the queen of hacks.
That meant even though Matt, an early B-ranker, had a higher rank than most council members, he still couldn’t defeat them.
"I feel cold. Can we go back?" Anica was the first to voice her discomfort while gripping her pink gown.
Even Matt, Amy, and Reni’s expressions changed.
Well, I wasn’t from this world, so... I didn’t care much about their social life or hierarchy.
I moved ahead of the group and slid my student card into the allocated slot, unlocking the glass door.
A refreshing scent wafted into my nose, and my knees felt slightly weak. My vision blurred slightly from the comforting, warm atmosphere.
A soft yawn escaped Amy, who was rubbing her eyes, trying to stay awake. Matt, on the other hand, seemed perfectly fine—so did Reni and Anica.
’How come they aren’t sleepy?’ I didn’t even need a talent to read Amy’s current thoughts.
As we slowly moved toward the polished wooden staircase that lay before the entrance and at the center of the pristine ground hall of the final floor—
We saw a figure crouched behind the back of the stairs.
He had black hair, red eyes, a lean yet muscular build, and a rather handsome face.
"Who is...?" Matt muttered, but before his question could be fully voiced, a gust of wind blew in all directions as a female figure dashed past us at blinding speed.
She had light brown hair, and her matching eyes glowed as though she was channeling mana.
The young man waved at us to come, and without hesitation, Anica moved toward him and sat on the ground.
’Is she tired from just that?’
The man gestured for us to hide. But I didn’t budge an inch.
Obviously, I would recognize the characters I created, especially the important ones, and the idiot crouched behind the stairs, who looked ordinary to most, was one of the most powerful students in the school.
Council president—Sian Razor—formerly the most talented human, and the one from whom Matt stole his title.
"Hey, hey." He whispered. "Come, there’s still some space." He tapped on the gap left after the rest had crouched behind the stairway.
I grinned as his eyes widened. He must’ve thought we wouldn’t recognize him, but knowing his character, this was the best way to get straight to business.
The student council vice president—Ichinose Hori.
"Vice President Hori! President Razor is hiding here!"
The group’s eyes widened as I revealed the identity of the man beside us.
As if becoming one with the wind, the vice president dashed past me again and yanked President Razor out of his hiding spot.
"Damn you, Sian! Why can’t you do your job? It’s not that difficult!"
The president slightly covered his ears at the vice president’s loud voice. "I don’t want to. Ichinose, my love." He said, blowing her a kiss as she pulled on his ear. "Why don’t you help me with the paperwork just this once?"
"You gave me that same excuse yesterday! And the day before that! And before that! Ahhh!" She exhaled deeply. After a moment, she calmed herself. "Look, you’ve made me leave a bad first impression on our juniors."
"Hahaha... But isn’t that just your usual personality?"
The president flew into the air as the vice president punched him squarely on the jaw.
He landed with a loud thud on the floor.
’K.O.’
