Reborn as the General's Useless Daughter-Chapter 305: At the Sapphire’s Exchange (Part-3)
Everyone’s expressions brightened.
Inscriptions could greatly enhance a weapon’s power. For Spirit Warriors, they were priceless tools that could decide the outcome of a battle.
Just as they were beginning to consider which inscription might suit them best, footsteps sounded behind them.
The students from Lunar Academy had arrived as well.
They, too, had come for the inscriptions. Opportunities like this were rare, and with the academy exchange competition approaching, no one wanted to miss a chance to strengthen themselves.
Drusilla quickly stepped forward, afraid she’d be too late. "We also want to buy an inscription!"
The attendant smiled faintly and shook her head. "Our Sapphire’s Exchange has a rule. Only one inscription is sold each day."
The words landed like a stone dropped into still water.
Everyone froze.
Only one?
With so many people present, that meant only a single person would walk away with an inscription today.
Alaric Von Seraph frowned slightly. "If that’s the case, how do you decide who gets it?"
"There are two methods," the attendant replied calmly. "First, I will ask a question. If someone can answer it correctly, the inscription will be given to them directly, free of charge.
"If no one can answer, then we proceed with an auction, and the highest bidder takes it."
She paused, then added with a smile, "You all arrived early today. This inscription hasn’t been sold yet."
As soon as she finished speaking, the eyes of everyone present lit up.
A chance to obtain an inscription for free—who wouldn’t be tempted by that?
"What’s the question?" Interest flickered in Zora’s eyes. Sapphire’s Exchange’s rule was unusual. Answer correctly, and an inscription was given away for free. That alone told her the question would be anything but simple.
Everyone’s gaze shifted to the attendant. She calmly took out a sheet of paper and laid it on the counter.
"This is the question."
How should Azure Spirit Grass and Verdant Stone be combined when creating an inscription?
The moment the words were read aloud, the hall fell silent.
Blank faces appeared one after another.
Reesa stared at the paper, completely stunned. "I don’t even know what those things are, let alone how to combine them..."
She wasn’t exaggerating. Most of them had never touched inscriptions before. Azure spirit grass? Verdant Stone? They might as well have been speaking another language.
Drusilla and the others exchanged looks, equally lost. Forget answering it. They didn’t even understand the question.
Seeing everyone’s reactions, the attendant wasn’t surprised in the slightest. This scene happened almost every day. Questions written by inscription masters were never meant for ordinary Spirit Warriors.
Inscriptions were precious. Giving one away casually was unthinkable.
After glancing at the paper again, Zora almost laughed.
The person who set this question never intended to give the inscription out in the first place. This was nothing more than a graceful way to make everyone back down. If there were no such rule, people would complain endlessly about selling only one inscription per day.
Now, the focus shifted. No one talked about fairness anymore.
"Well," Caius said lazily, "since no one can answer it, we might as well auction it. Whoever has the money gets it."
Several people nodded subconsciously.
That was clearly the only outcome. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Just then, a calm voice cut through the air. "Who said no one can answer it?"
The moment those words fell, all eyes turned toward Zora.
Surprise, disbelief, confusion. Every expression appeared at once.
Drusilla sneered. "Zora, don’t try to act cool. You’ll only make a fool of yourself."
Inscriptions were an entirely different field. Even many Spirit Warriors avoided them for life. Did she really think this was the time to show off?
Ignar frowned slightly. This wasn’t something one could bluff their way through.
Even Reesa looked worried. She knew Zora was a refiner, but inscriptions? She had never heard of her studying them.
Ignoring every gaze fixed on her, Zora spoke unhurriedly, her tone steady and certain.
"Grind the Azure spirit grass and Verdant Stone together. Add the sap of a Silverfalls Vine and one-tenth portion of water. Then refine the mixture over controlled fire. Only then will the two materials become compatible."
Silence.
Drusilla and the others stared at her in disbelief. Silverfalls Vine sap? They had never even heard of such a thing.
Sylvandria’s brows knitted together as well. She understood medicinal herbs, but these were ores and inscription materials. This was far outside her knowledge.
And yet, Zora’s expression remained calm.
In fact, too calm as if she were simply stating a fact.
Drusilla and the others stared at Zora in disbelief.
What she had just said... how could it possibly be true?
Even the attendant froze for a heartbeat. No one had ever answered that question since the rule was set. And today, someone had answered it cleanly and confidently.
"Attendant," Drusilla said stiffly, unable to hold back, "she just said something casually. You don’t need to take it seriously."
She didn’t believe it. Not for a second.
Zora didn’t look like someone who had studied inscriptions, let alone someone capable of solving a problem that even seasoned Spirit Warriors avoided.
The Lunar Academy students shared the same thought. This had to be nonsense.
Yet the attendant’s next words struck them like a slap.
"The young lady is correct." Her face lit up with genuine surprise and delight. "I truly didn’t expect this. Miss, you are indeed knowledgeable in inscriptions. According to the rules, you may take one inscription for free."
Silence crashed down at once.
Everyone stared at Zora as if she had suddenly grown a second head.
She... was right?
That impossibly obscure question, the one meant to shut everyone up, had actually been answered?
Reesa’s eyes shone like stars. "Zora, you’re incredible!"
She was so excited she nearly jumped, only barely remembering where she was. If this weren’t the third floor of Sapphire’s Exchange, she might have already rushed over to hug her.
This was beyond satisfying.
The Lunar Academy people had been completely crushed, once again.
Alaric Von Seraph and the others were equally stunned. None of them had known that Zora had any connection to inscriptions at all.
Lunar Academy’s students felt their faces burn. Shock mixed with unwilling admiration. They had underestimated her again, and this time, it was painfully obvious.
Drusilla clenched her fists. She didn’t want to admit it, but inscriptions from Sapphire’s Exchange were priceless. Even with money, you might not be able to buy one. And now, Zora had earned one effortlessly.
But what Zora did next left them even more speechless.
She turned to Reesa and the others and said calmly, "Take a look. If any inscription suits you, choose it."
Everyone froze.
"Zora, what about you?" Tiffany asked in surprise.
Zora shook her head lightly. "My sword isn’t suitable for these inscriptions."
Only then did they understand. With the grade and nature of the Glazed Sword, forcing an ordinary inscription onto it would do more harm than good.
"Then let’s see who fits one best," Zora said with a faint smile. "No need to rush."
Her tone was casual, as if she were talking about something trivial, not a treasure others would fight over.
With that, she turned and walked toward the three elderly men still arguing at the tea table. Curiosity glimmered in her eyes. She was far more interested in the problem they were debating than in the inscription itself.
Drusilla and Ophelia stared at her back, disbelief deepening.
She really didn’t want it?
Not even pretending?
The Lunar Academy students were completely baffled. An inscription that could boost one’s strength, freely obtained, and she gave it away without hesitation.
Was she foolish?
Or... were they simply too small-minded to understand her?
