Reborn as the General's Useless Daughter-Chapter 308: The Escorts from the Thunderclap Academy
At that moment, countless thoughts were colliding in his mind. If he didn’t seize them now, the inspiration would vanish like smoke. He truly could not afford to waste even a second.
Watching the three inscription masters hurry off one after another, the smile on Zora’s lips deepened slightly.
Just as she had expected. Once these old men caught a new thread of possibility, they would forget everything else. In her eyes, they were truly adorable in their obsession.
Drusilla stood frozen, staring at Zora, unsure of what expression to wear.
There was no doubt anymore. Zora genuinely understood inscriptions. Not only that, she could converse fluently with the three masters and even resolve doubts that had troubled them for days.
At their age, such a feat was simply unimaginable.
This Zora... was a monster.
As the three masters disappeared, Reesa and the others hurried to Zora’s side, confusion written all over their faces.
"Zora, what just happened?" Reesa glanced toward the stairs. "Why did those three inscription masters leave so suddenly?"
Alaric Von Seraph and the rest shared the same bewilderment. The scene just now had been far too strange.
Zora only smiled faintly. "They thought of some very important questions."
The answer did little to ease their confusion. What kind of questions could send three inscription masters rushing off like that?
On the other side, the students of Lunar Academy looked toward Drusilla. They had never dared approach the three masters earlier, afraid of offending them, and thus had no idea what had just transpired.
Drusilla simply shook her head. She didn’t know how to explain it either.
"By the way," Zora asked calmly, "have you chosen the inscription?"
"Yes," Reesa replied with a grin. "We picked one suitable for Alaric Von Seraph."
Marcus and the others nodded in agreement.
Aside from Zora herself, Alaric Von Seraph was the strongest among them. With an inscription added, his combat strength would undoubtedly rise another notch.
In the upcoming Academy exchange, every advantage mattered.
Ultimately, the competition was decided by the top performers. Whichever Academy produced the strongest individuals would claim victory.
Though everyone hoped to shine, they were pragmatic. Strength came first.
Between Zora and Alaric Von Seraph, they were the two with the greatest potential. And when it came to this inscription, there was no argument at all. In everyone’s heart, Alaric Von Seraph was the most suitable choice.
"Very good," Zora said with a light nod. Alaric Von Seraph was already strong. Now, he would be even stronger.
The Spirit Warriors of Lunar Academy watched Zora and her group handle the matter with such calm indifference, and disbelief quietly crept into their hearts.
Among Spirit Warriors, who didn’t place their own strength above all else? Yet these people from the Imperial academy had passed up a rare inscription without the slightest hesitation. It was baffling.
They felt that something about this group was different, but they couldn’t quite put their finger on it.
"Since it’s settled, let’s go."
Zora smiled faintly. Sapphire’s Exchange lived up to its reputation, but there was no need to linger now that everything had been seen and done.
Everyone nodded and followed her down the stairs.
"Please take care!"
The attendant hurried after them, her delicate face full of admiration and lingering amazement. In all her time at Sapphire’s Exchange, this was the first time she had seen someone solve that question, and the first time she had witnessed the three inscription masters treat a young Spirit Warrior with such regard.
This Zora was truly extraordinary.
After leaving Sapphire’s Exchange, the Lunar Academy students did not stay behind either. However, in their hearts, a silent decision had already been made.
They will come earlier tomorrow.
Even if it meant paying a high price, they would secure an inscription. After all, Sapphire’s Exchange sold one inscription a day. There was still hope.
"Let’s head back to the inn," Sylvandria said softly to the group.
Her earlier good mood had been dampened by encountering the Lunar Academy’s group. Those people really had a talent for ruining the atmosphere.
Reesa nodded. "Running into people like that just kills the desire to keep wandering."
She didn’t bother lowering her voice, and every word carried clearly to the ears of the Lunar Academy students.
Their expressions darkened instantly.
"When the Academy exchange starts, we’ll definitely teach them a lesson!" Drusilla said through clenched teeth.
Ever since crossing paths with Reesa and the others, her mood had been steadily deteriorating.
"Sis," Ophelia tugged at her sleeve, curiosity flashing in her eyes. "Do you think Zora really understand inscriptions?"
Drusilla nodded slowly. "Judging by how she spoke with the three masters, it should be true."
Hearing this, the expressions of Caius and the others changed subtly.
Inscriptions were a highly respected art. If Zora truly mastered them, her future status would be incomparable.
"I didn’t expect Zora to also be an inscriptionist," Ignar said quietly, a faint smile curling at his lips. Yet his expression betrayed no deeper emotion.
The following morning, Vice Principal Gerrad gathered Zora and the others early.
The reason was simple.
The Principal and vice principal of Thunderclap Academy had personally come to the inn to receive them.
This outcome did not surprise anyone. In fact, it was exactly as they had anticipated.
"Old friend, it’s been a long time."
A middle-aged man dressed in black stepped inside. Compared to Gerrad, he appeared younger, but every movement and every trace of his bearing proclaimed his extraordinary status.
Even though this was her first time meeting this fellow, Zora still recognized him even without any introductions.
Cindral, the pride of Thunderclap Academy.
After seeing Cindral, Gerrad’s expression turned calm and distant as he greeted him, "Principal Cindral."
The tone was courteous, yet the coldness within it was unmistakable. Clearly, Gerrad had not yet let go of what Thunderclap Academy had done earlier. Today, he intended to make his stance clear in front of Cindral.
If he softened too easily, wouldn’t that only invite the other party to look down on them?
Sensing the chill in Gerrad’s words, Cindral’s smile remained unchanged. His expression was gentle, almost apologetic, as he said, "I truly am getting on in years. I had been in seclusion recently and never expected such a serious matter to occur. Had I known earlier, I would certainly have been furious."
Gerrad let out a light snort. "Thunderclap Academy is becoming more and more disorderly. Even a mere guard dared to stop our academy’s team at the gates. Principal Cindral, are you deliberately trying to humiliate us?"
His words were slow and deliberate, each sentence carrying weight.
How could Gerrad not understand Cindral’s intentions? Seclusion?
With Cindral’s temperament, if he truly cared about this exchange, he would have been preparing tirelessly for victory, not hiding away in retreat. The excuse was nothing more than a formality.
They had already stayed at this inn for two days. If Cindral had genuinely been unaware, he would have come long ago. His appearance now was clearly a calculated gesture.
Since it was a gesture, Gerrad wanted that gesture to be made properly and thoroughly.
"Old friend, that’s not what I meant," Cindral said quickly. "I truly did not know about this matter beforehand. Once I found out, I immediately dismissed that guard. To dare obstruct the Imperial academy’s team, he was truly blind and reckless!"
Yet even after hearing this, Gerrad’s expression did not soften in the slightest.
"Old friend, Principal Cindral speaks sincerely," Vice Principal Hector interjected. "I hope that, for the sake of harmony, you won’t lower yourself to argue with a mere guard." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"I don’t believe that a single guard would have the courage to act on his own," Gerrad replied coldly, his brows tightening.
He had long since lost patience with Thunderclap Academy. Since this confrontation was inevitable, there was no reason for him to swallow this humiliation for the sake of appearances.
"In any case, you must give me a proper explanation for this matter," Gerrad continued, his tone firm and unyielding. "This concerns the dignity of our entire academy and the honor of our students."
If Thunderclap Academy failed to provide a satisfactory account, the ridicule they would face would be unbearable. Gerrad would not allow his academy to be trampled on so casually.
Seeing Gerrad’s resolute attitude, Cindral and Hector exchanged a glance. They hadn’t expected him to cling so stubbornly to this point.
It was clear now that there would be no easy resolution.
After a brief pause, Cindral sighed and said frankly, "Gerrad, this matter was indeed our fault. I apologize to you on behalf of Thunderclap Academy. As for the guard’s misconduct, I will investigate it thoroughly and ensure you are given a satisfactory explanation. How does that sound?"
Cindral was decisive. What he truly wanted was to defeat the academy completely in the upcoming exchange competition. Compared to that ultimate goal, conceding this matter cost him nothing.
Once Thunderclap Academy emerged victorious in the exchange, any grievance Gerrad held today would become meaningless.
Zora and the others exchanged glances quietly.
On the surface, the principal of Thunderclap Academy appeared gracious and accommodating. If this had happened before, they might truly have believed that Cindral was sincerely trying to make amends.
But after everything they had experienced, they were no longer so naïve.
If not for the impending Academy exchange, Cindral likely would not have come here at all.
Meanwhile, the chill on Gerrad’s face eased slightly. His expression remained composed, but his tone was no longer as sharp as he said. "Then we will wait for Principal Cindral to give us a proper explanation."
