Chapter 189: Cyrus’s injury

Near the exit of the participants’ chambers, the three ladies arrived one by one before standing beside each other.

Since the loyalty test didn’t require strenuous activity and was the last test that would bring them straight to the crown, the three ladies were dressed in their finest gowns, hoping to greet the crowd that day with the queen’s title.

Hannah chose a golden gown with champagne frills on the sleeves that reached the ground, forming miniature trains to the side.

Luna Maximine chose a royal green ball gown with the back part of her skirt longer than the front, creating a small train-like appearance. She wore white gloves, looking even more sophisticated and ready to take the crown for herself.

Amelia, on the other hand, chose a simple royal blue dress that reached her ankles with a bit of glitter and shimmer to it.

She looked at the guard who was supposed to allow them outside, wishing she could reach the location as soon as possible.

She was about to pull her phone out to look at the time when Hannah walked to her.

"There is still some time, sister. Sign off on the rights of the healers of the West community to Thames, and none of this will happen. Honestly, I still have no interest in marrying that beast who has fallen for me. I don’t take used goods." Hannah said to Amelia.

Amelia turned to look at her sister, smiling softly.

"It’s rich coming from a person like you who has done nothing but take my used goods her entire life," Amelia smirked.

Hannah’s smug expression twisted at Amelia’s words.

"What did you say?" She asked, her brows knitting close in slight anger.

"The truth. Be it the assignments that I worked on, my first crush, Alpha Killian, the herbs that I used in the university, or the queen’s position, you just have the habit of taking away my used products," Amelia said.

If Hannah thought talking like this was going to scare Amelia, she was wrong.

There was nothing to be scared of when she wasn’t even participating. Though she wouldn’t win the queen’s title fairly, she was sure Cyrus wouldn’t accept anyone else as his queen.

She had that kind of trust in her love, in that mate bond that tied them all together.

Thus, signing off the rights that her mother, Scarlett, worked so hard on and got cheated and betrayed for, losing her life, or getting belittled by a person as evil as Hannah was out of the question for her.

"You will regret this. I assure you. These words you said today..." Hannah seethed.

Amelia nodded before she stepped away from Hannah.

Luna Maximine, who had been hearing their words, looked at Amelia with a slightly confused expression.

She had been observing every candidate from the beginning, trying to gauge who would give her the better competition, and for some reason, she felt this girl was different from all the participants.

First, she helped other Lunas through the first trial, saving many lives. Then, she was the first one to complete the strategy and win against the general. At the same time, they barely managed to keep their troops alive for the twelve moves, and now for the third trial, with the kind of confidence this girl showed, it almost looked like she was confident she would win.

But why?

The guard signalled the three participants to leave the chambers and proceed to the palace, which was located at some distance.

Amelia could see Thames and Jennifer rushing to greet Hannah, while Luna was surrounded by her parents. She took a deep, shaky breath.

There was probably no one who could come and motivate her. Then again, she didn’t really need it since she wasn’t participating.

Amelia sighed.

She hailed the regular taxi that was supposed to take her to the Palace.

"To the Graveyard forests," Amelia said.

The taxi driver turned to look at the girl in surprise.

"But Miss, the trial..."

"I am not going," Amelia said.

The taxi driver looked at her for a few seconds before nodding.

He believed the girl was quitting because she didn’t think she could pass the test. He respected her decision and started the car.

At the same time in the Grand Palace, Cyrus groaned in pain as the royal doctor wrapped the bandages around his torso and chest, making him his.

Last night, when he had set out to hunt those rogue wolves, it had taken a toll on his body, but that wasn’t what affected him to the point of being this wounded.

Out of the blue, a few men dressed in black had appeared once he caught the rogue, who was finally ready to tell him who sent them.

He was ready to fight those men, too, but they started shooting at him. He dodged most of them, but some of them hurt him. And those bullets were no regular bullets, but silver bullets laced with wolfsbane.

They didn’t want to kill him. He could see it. The way they shot at him and then ran for their lives, taking those rogues with them, as if afraid he would catch them, he knew they were there to take the rogues who could spill the truth.

Not only that, but he had finally seen the man who knew about his mother, but he was taken away too.

He wanted to follow them, but the bullet wounds on his chest and abdomen made him too weak after his wolf’s return.

His body was already suffering from earlier, and the silver made it worse for him.

Cyrus sent a team behind those rogues and men and asked Trevor to bring him to the palace.

The entire night, he kept vomiting to remove the silver along with the wolfsbane from his system as soon as possible, as it was hindering his healing along with his wolf’s powers.

It was only a few minutes ago that the doctor finally gave him the clean chit and said most of the silver was out of his body.

He wanted to meet his mate, be there for her, and see her before the last test. However, he didn’t want to worry her and make her sad with his condition. Thus, when Kyle called, he told him the truth and asked him to hide it from Amelia.

"Sir, I still believe that you shouldn’t leave today. This is bad. Your wounds are still fresh and would bleed even with a little harsh movement," the doctor said.

Cyrus clenched his teeth.

"I don’t care. My wife needs me. Today is the last trial, and she would be heartbroken if she didn’t see me there. I don’t want her to panic and think something indeed happened to me. She felt the pain through the mate bond. It’s already worse," Cyrus said.

The doctor looked at his helper and asked him to tie another layer of bandages to the king’s wounds so the blood wouldn’t immediately show on his clothes.

Cyrus stood up and put on his shirt before donning his royal attire.

I hope she doesn’t hate us for being late. Cyrus said to Sylas.

She will understand. Don’t worry. Let’s just hurry up. I don’t want to miss her last round. It’s the loyalty test. I want to know what kind of test she would be given. Sylas said.

Cyrus nodded before looking at Fabian, who had a troubled expression on his face.

"I shouldn’t have let you go alone." Fabian thinned his lips.

Cyrus smiled at his subordinate.

"Don’t worry. It’s going to be alright. I am not easy to kill." He joked, and Fabian sighed before shaking his head.

He just hoped their princess wouldn’t find anything wrong with him before the test, or she would be too focused on him rather than on her test.
