Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man-Chapter 43 - 29: Jie Jingchen, Help! (Part 2)
Jie Jingjue stood frozen, a mixture of shock and delight.
"How did I do today, Fourth Sister-in-law?" Jie Jingshan’s bright voice rang out, her face beaming with a guileless smile.
"Jing Qi, you were great." Qin Mei gave her a thumbs-up.
Jie Jingshan chuckled and asked, "Are we still going out tomorrow?"
"We’ll start your treatment tomorrow." Qin Mei had faith in Mrs. Xie’s abilities. Once the herbs were ready, they could begin.
"So soon?" Jie Jingshan was actually surprised. As anxious as she was, she knew full well this couldn’t be rushed.
"I like to get things done quickly." Qin Mei wheeled Jie Jingshan to the main entrance. The threshold was a little high, and she was about to call for Jie Jingchen to hurry over, but then she saw Jie Jingjue and the others standing in the courtyard. She addressed Jie Jingjue directly, "Jing Wu, come over and help."
Qin Mei didn’t call for Jie Jingwei or Jie Jinghun. They were Jie Jingshan’s half-brothers, and she would have only considered asking them if Jie Jingjue hadn’t been there.
Jie Jingjue still hadn’t recovered from his shock and was staring blankly at the entrance. It wasn’t just him, either—everyone in the courtyard was stunned, especially at the sight of a beaming Jie Jingshan.
Growing up, Jie Jingshan had always loved to laugh—she was a little ray of sunshine. But ever since her accident, they had never seen her smile again. The once innocent and lively girl had been transformed by the terrible misfortune, becoming insecure and temperamental.
They didn’t know if her legs could be healed, but the change in Jie Jingshan was plain for all to see.
Shen Qing concealed the surprise in her eyes, a faint smile gracing her usually frosty face.
She firmly believed there was hope for Jing Qi’s legs. And even if Qin Mei couldn’t heal them, she would still be Jing Qi’s salvation.
When Jie Jingshan saw that Jie Jingjue wasn’t moving, she called out, "Fifth Brother."
Jie Jingjue heard her but was too stunned to react, remaining as still as a statue.
Qin Mei frowned, observing Jie Jingjue’s behavior. ’Isn’t his reaction a bit over the top?’
’Was he for real?’
Qin Mei didn’t know the full story, so she was baffled. But everyone else did, and they understood Jie Jingjue’s reaction perfectly.
"Fifth Brother," Jie Jingshan called again.
"What are you gawking at? Go help. Xiao Qiao is waiting," said Jie Jingwei, who was standing closest to Jie Jingjue, giving him a nudge.
Qin Mei waited patiently, only to be stunned by what Jie Jingjue did next. He finally snapped out of his trance, only to turn and flee back to his own room.
SLAM! He threw the door shut.
Qin Mei was completely baffled. ’Is he *really* Jing Qi’s full brother?’
The others just looked on, helpless.
"I’ll do it," Jie Jinghun volunteered.
"Thank you, Third Brother," Jie Jingshan said.
"What’s there to thank me for? I’m your third brother," Jie Jinghun said, his tone gently scolding.
’She’s calling me her brother and still thanking me,’ he thought. ’Our Xiao Qiao is finally back to being the lively, lovable Jie Jingshan everyone adores.’
Relieved, he couldn’t help but be deeply impressed with Qin Mei. She had accomplished in just two days what they hadn’t been able to do in years.
It was impossible not to be impressed.
Jie Jingshan stuck out her tongue, then looked up at Qin Mei and said with great earnestness, "Fourth Sister-in-law said that people must know how to be grateful."
"Your Fourth Sister-in-law is right." Jie Jinghun gave Qin Mei a meaningful look, then bent down slightly, gripped both sides of the wheelchair, and lifted it straight over the threshold.
"Third Sister-in-law, I have to go to the bathroom," Jie Jingshan said to Shen Qing.
Jie Jinghun and the others were once again taken aback. The old Jing Qi would never have announced in public that she needed to use the bathroom.
’What on earth have her fourth brother and his wife been telling Jing Qi?’
"Alright," Shen Qing said, walking over to Jie Jingshan. Watched by the astonished eyes of Jie Jinghun and the others, she wheeled her inside.
"Third Sister-in-law, my fourth sister-in-law gets carsick," Jie Jingshan explained. "My fourth brother and she pushed me home on foot, so she’s exhausted. I want to let her rest."
"Our Jing Qi is so thoughtful now, knowing how to care for others. It makes me very happy," Shen Qing said with a relieved smile.
"Third Sister-in-law, here." Jie Jingshan handed Shen Qing a scarf.
"Jing Qi," Shen Qing said, her voice soft.
"My fourth brother took me and Fourth Sister-in-law to the department store. I bought this for you," Jie Jingshan said with a wide grin.
"Thank you." Shen Qing didn’t refuse, accepting it with a smile. Holding the scarf, she felt an indescribable emotion well up inside her.
It’s the thought that counts. She could feel Jing Qi’s sincerity, and besides, this scarf hadn’t been cheap.
"Do you like it, Third Sister-in-law?" Jie Jingshan asked.
"I love it." Looking at the pure and innocent Jie Jingshan, Shen Qing felt a pang in her heart. She desperately hoped Qin Mei really had the ability to heal Jing Qi’s legs.
’The disappointment that comes after hope is just too cruel. Jing Qi wouldn’t be able to bear it.’
Jie Jingshan was overjoyed to hear Shen Qing say she loved it.
Inside, Qin Mei sat in a chair, rubbing her aching calves. She had walked so much today that her feet were blistered.
