Chapter 74: Chapter 39: Teacher Lin Admires You (2)

It dawned on Jie Jingjue. He snapped, "Second Sister-in-law, are you lying to me, or did Teacher Lin lie to you?" π˜§π“‡β„―π‘’π“Œπ‘’π‘π“ƒπ˜°π˜·π˜¦π˜.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Never mind Teacher Lin. Even *he* wouldn’t be able to get the upper hand against two burly thugs, let alone escape with a child in tow.

"Jing Wu, why are you so worked up? Even if Teacher Lin wanted to leverage this favor, she wouldn’t come to you. You’re just Jie You’s fifth uncle, not his parents or grandparents. And even if she wanted to use this as a chance to marry into the Jie Family, it wouldn’t be you. It would be your second brother, or your dad. *They* are Jie You’s father and grandfather," Qin Mei dropped another bombshell.

"You’re right. What business is it of mine?" Jie Jingjue’s expression cleared. He thanked Qin Mei, "Thank you, Fourth Sister-in-law. I was getting sidetracked."

Qin Mei cracked a grin. "I’m a benevolent soul. I love helping the lost find their way back. No thanks necessary, Amitabhaβ€”Mmph..."

Jie Jingchen clapped a hand over her mouth, and Qin Mei’s eyes went wide.

Jie Jingchen leaned in and whispered in her ear, "A careless tongue spells disaster."

Qin Mei understood instantly. ’Can’t I even say Amitabha Buddha casually?’

Xu Chunyan was fuming. The person Teacher Lin wanted to marry was Jing Si, and she had been more than happy to play matchmaker. But then this interloper had to show up out of nowhere. It was infuriating!

’Qin Mei truly has no filter. Yesterday she told Jing Er to take Teacher Lin, and today she dragged their father-in-law into it. Her mind is just so venomous.’

"Fourth Sister-in-law, did Xiao You actually run into bad guys?" Jie Jingshan suddenly asked, her wide eyes fixed on her.

Qin Mei lowered her gaze to meet Jie Jingshan’s curious eyes. She patted the back of the hand Jie Jingchen was using to cover her mouth. When he didn’t let go, Qin Mei pressed down on the back of his hand and bit his palm.

The palm of a hand isn’t easy to bite. The moment her soft lips and teeth made contact, a jolt shot through Jie Jingchen. A tingling numbness spread from his core as an unfamiliar feeling surged within him.

His eyes darkened. Jie Jingchen released her and took a step back, clenching his hand into a tight fist. His palm was slightly damp, still holding her warmth. His heart began to race.

Qin Mei had no idea that her thoughtless act had so successfully flustered a certain someone.

"We don’t know if he really encountered bad guys. Xiao You knows, and Teacher Lin knows perfectly well," Qin Mei said with a smile, looking at Jie Jingshan.

"Qin Mei, stop judging others by your own low standards! Teacher Lin admires Jing Si. When she heard he got married, she never once came to the house to demand an explanation. Teacher Lin saved Xiao You; she has no intention of leveraging the favor," Xu Chunyan argued on Teacher Lin’s behalf. In truth, she had her own doubts. ’Teacher Lin is a delicate woman. How could she possibly have saved Xiao You from a kidnapper?’

She had asked Xiao You, and he had insisted that Teacher Lin saved him.

’The kidnappers must have panicked when they saw someone approaching. They got scared, dropped Xiao You, and ran away. That still counts as a rescue! If Teacher Lin hadn’t appeared, Xiao You would have been trafficked. So, Teacher Lin is Xiao You’s savior, a benefactor to the entire Jie Family.’

"Demand an explanation? Hah. On what grounds?" Qin Mei scoffed and turned to Jie Jingchen beside her. "Did you ever promise to marry her?"

"No," Jie Jingchen replied.

"Did you two promise yourselves to each other?" Qin Mei asked again.

"No," Jie Jingchen replied.

Qin Mei fixed her gaze on Xu Chunyan and demanded coldly, "Did you hear that, Second Sister-in-law? There’s nothing between them. Jie Jingchen married *me*. On what grounds could she possibly come here demanding an explanation from him?"

Xu Chunyan ignored Qin Mei, her gaze falling on Jie Jingchen. "Jing Si, Teacher Lin is in love with you."

"What a joke. Just because Teacher Lin is in love with Jie Jingchen, he has to marry her? That’s ridiculous. A relationship can only blossom and lead to a happy marriage when two people admire each other and the feelings are mutual, not when it’s just one-sided." Qin Mei paused, then asked, "Second Sister-in-law, if I told you the old man next door was in love with you, would you divorce Second Brother and marry him?"

"You..." Xu Chunyan trembled with rage.

’Xu Chunyan was known for her sharp tongue; she was usually the one who left others speechless with rage. But Qin Mei had only been here a few days, and already she had Xu Chunyan so furious she felt like she could spit blood.’

"Second Sister-in-law, you should go back inside and help Xiao You with his homework," Jie Jingjue urged.

"Jie Jingwei!" Xu Chunyan bellowed.

Jie Jingwei heard her from inside the room but chose to ignore it. ’This is a war between the sisters-in-law. If I get involved, it’ll turn into something else entirely.’

Jie Jingjue picked the thorn stick up from the floor and offered it back to Xu Chunyan. "Second Sister-in-law, we all know Xiao You. Faced with the thorn stick, he’ll tell the truth."

"Jie Jingjue," Xu Chunyan snapped, glaring at him without taking the thorn stick. ’Anyone who encourages me to hit my own child is up to no good.’
