Reborn in the 80s, Get Rich by Eating Melons-Chapter 33: Persuading Divorce
Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Persuading Divorce
He Fang was happy to hear these words. The stove she made indeed wasn’t worth much, but it was a hassle to construct. Since her father put great effort into making this stove, it would naturally be good to get more money for it.
"Sis, don’t worry. I promise I’ll have the stove ready for you tomorrow. I won’t delay your use of it."
Tong Yao nodded, "Then I’ll trouble you all with this. I’ll go buy a table and bring it over later."
Having settled this matter, Tong Yao headed directly to the street. After much inquiry, she managed to buy cups for the milk tea. The price was higher than she had imagined—one cup even cost a cent. The straws required exceeded her original budget. After much hesitation, she gritted her teeth and bought over a hundred cups. She also bought black tea, rock sugar, oil drainer, enamel tanks, a folding table, and three large water barrels. Finally, she bought a large round pot. In short, she bought everything she needed.
Due to the injury on her arm, it was inconvenient for her to carry stuff. Therefore, she simply called a taxi to send the items to He Fang’s house. The driver was a kind-hearted person and helped Tong Yao move the items into He Fang’s house.
He Fang stared wide-eyed at the room full of stuff. Only after the driver left, she curiously asked, "Girl, why did you buy so much stuff? What are you planning to do?"
After a busy morning, Tong Yao was sweating profusely and her bangs were sticking to her face. She pushed her bangs aside, "Sister Fang, I won’t hide it from you. I got all this stuff because I plan to set up a stall in front of the Number One Middle School to sell milk tea."
"Milk tea?" He Fang was clueless. "What is milk tea? I’ve never heard of it."
Tong Yao smiled, "It’s a beverage made from fresh milk. I’ll let you try it later."
He Fang had no intention of trying it. It wasn’t appropriate for her to casually try something that others were using to make money. She was just curious.
Upon seeing Tong Yao moving her bangs again, she noticed that Tong Yao was sweating profusely. "Girl, look at the sweat on your forehead. Let me find a fan for you!"
"No need, I’m leaving soon." Tong Yao tucked her loose hair behind her ears, her heart filled with anticipation for her small business. "Sister Fang, I forgot to tell you something previously. I might need to use water from your house for my milk tea business, but I won’t use it for free. I’ll pay the water bill."
"No problem, feel free to use the water at home." He Fang answered readily. Water is cheap! Her large family didn’t even spend two cents on water bills a month.
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao immediately smiled. Everything was set, and as long as her arm gets better, she would be able to start selling milk tea. She was certain that she would make a killing.
He Fang was dazzled by Tong Yao’s smile. Looking at Tong Yao’s apple-red face, people couldn’t resist wanting to take a bite. He Fang sighed, how could someone be so beautiful? She looked like a fairy.
Perhaps because she had seen too many cases online in her previous life, Tong Yao felt a little scared when she saw He Fang staring at her. She wondered if she had been too generous in front of He Fang these past few days. It wouldn’t be good if He Fang had any bad intentions - after all, they weren’t familiar with each other and He Fang’s husband wasn’t a good man.
Tong Yao wasn’t overthinking. People’s hearts are unfathomable, it’s always better to be cautious. She made a mental note never to casually enter He Fang’s house again, otherwise it would be too late to regret if something happened.
With these thoughts, Tong Yao felt uncomfortable all over. She could hardly wait to make a hole in the wall and rush out of the house. "Sister Fang, I’ll start selling things on Monday, so could you please get up early and prepare these things? It’s almost lunchtime, I’ll go home first."
With that said, she quickly walked out of the house.
He Fang was still immersed in admiration of Tong Yao’s beauty. By the time she came back to her senses, Tong Yao had already left, but He Fang didn’t think much of it.
Only after leaving He Fang’s house did Tong Yao finally breathe a sigh of relief. She reminded herself not to be careless again next time. Her life is more important.
She had seen many news in her previous life about people being harmed due to their greed for money. Especially people like He Fang’s husband, who, at first glance, were not good people. It’s safer to stay away from them.
With the sun directly overhead, Tong Yao was so hot that her clothes were soaked with sweat. She checked the time and found that it was almost time for Si Chen to finish work. She quickened her pace unconsciously and walked briskly.
...
Liu Haisheng brought a box of food back from the canteen. He Looked around the canteen and didn’t see Si Chen. Upon inquiring, he found out that Si Chen had started to cook his own meals instead of eating in the canteen. Originally, he wanted to meet Si Chen accidentally in the canteen, then go back to the residential area together to get Si Chen talking, but Si Chen didn’t come, so Liu Haisheng was in a predicament.
Carrying the food box back to the residential area, Liu Haisheng saw that the kitchen was filled with the fragrance of food. He took a look and found that it was Si Chen cooking. He thought to himself that Tong Yao really did nothing as the rumors said. A man who had been tired all day still needed to take care of food and drink.
He put the food box in his room and pretended to go in to wash his hands, then started a casual chat with Si Chen, "Dr. Si, why are you cooking again? Where’s your wife?"
Si Chen continued cutting vegetables without stopping, answering in a low voice, "She went out and hasn’t come back yet." Tong Yao had left a note when she went out in the morning. Si Chen didn’t worry too much when he came back and didn’t see her.
As soon as Liu Haisheng heard this, he became more certain of his suspicion. Whoever married such a wife would be unlucky. He was doing a good deed, not breaking up other people’s marriages. Right now, Tong Yao didn’t have kids, so if she got a divorce and got some more money, it wouldn’t be a loss.
Thinking about this, Liu Haisheng opened the topic with a hehe laugh, "Dr. Si, you’re so accomplished. You’d be too distressed if you married such a wife. As the saying goes, ’Behind every successful man, there has to be a virtuous wife and loving mother.’ You’re taking care of both work and home - how can you have that much energy?"
Si Chen paused his chopping, furrowed his brows, and issued a stern reminder in a deep voice, "Dr. Liu, rumors are stopped by the wise."
In Liu Haisheng’s eyes, Si Chen was just feeling embarrassed as common gossip had been brought to light and his face was at stake. So, he feigned sympathy, "Dr. Si, don’t feel embarrassed. Others don’t understand you, but I do because I’ve been there myself. Previously, I married a woman who didn’t know a word under my family’s arrangement. The two of us had no common language and we had big quarrels every three days and small quarrels every two days. Only after getting a divorce did I feel relieved."
As he spoke, Liu Haisheng observed Si Chen’s emotions. Seeing that he was not angry, he earnestly continued, "You see, although I’m a divorcee, I can still marry a woman several years younger than me. You look better than me, and you’re younger than me. You’re a pretty boy, so would you be worried you can’t find a better one after the divorce? I won’t hide it from you. I came to talk to you today because someone asked me to relay a message to you. As long as you get divorced from Tong Yao, you can be the Dean’s son-in-law. Shiya is a lot better than Tong Yao by ten thousand miles. Don’t mess up. If you don’t know how to talk to Tong Yao, I can do it for you. I’ll be the bad guy."
After saying a bunch of words in one breath, Liu Haisheng was parched. He thought any sensible person would know how to choose. If it had been him, he wouldn’t have needed to think. He would’ve simply gone home, fetched his household register, and filed for divorce. Although Si Chen wasn’t very talkative and didn’t socialize at work, he was a smart guy. He knows better than anyone else what choices are beneficial for him.
