Chapter 1085: The real wolf

By the end of all essay and origami activities, the kids dropped to sleep, tired and exhausted. The bed was hogged by four brats and two cats.

I wanted to sleep too...

But there was simply no space. Jin had stepped out for a call so Nian took it upon himself to neatly tuck them under the blanket. Then he took out his phone and clicked his adorable sleeping Yina’s pictures back to back with a wide grin.

Alix didn’t want to start any conversation but his actions brought a twitch to her lips.

"You are creeping me out."

"What did I do!?" He whispered with grievances.

"Sure, you are her father but control that...enthusiasm. People will mistake you for a pervert."

"..."

"Hmph. You just don’t understand the heart of a daughter’s father! I am still well within my limits, you know? Do you want to see how many pictures of Nuo we have? Dad used to go all out and crazy, including Uncle and Grandpa. I am still being decent," he snorted.

At that point, Alix thought that Nian would definitely leave since the kids were now asleep. Yet for some reason, he made himself comfortable in the chair rather than throwing his body out of her room.

"They are asleep."

He nodded.

Take the hint! She inwardly gritted.

"...You can come back when they are awake."

He beamed. "I will wait for Yina to wake up and click her adorable waking up pictures. I want to capture every moment of her life!"

Her expression twisted. "Don’t tell me you follow her to bathroom breaks too."

His brow twitched heavily. "How insolent. I have at least that sense to give her privacy!"

"I was beginning to doubt that," she murmured.

"I felt an insult."

"You are imagining things."

Since Alix had nothing else to do, she took the other chair and grabbed a book to read while also wishing from the bottom of her heart for Nian to just leave her alone. She didn’t want to risk going outside and bumping into somebody else. Her bedroom was her safe haven.

"You are good with children."

She looked up.

"You are very patient with them, kinda like...oh yeah, Dad. Your patience is very similar to his."

She stiffened, unsure of how to feel about that comparison. She tapped her fingers on the book pages and decided to address the elephant in the room.

"Are you trying to find reasons to like me?"

Nian, who was grinning at Yina’s pictures, glanced at her. "Why would I have to do that?"

"Do I have to state the obvious?"

"That’s a funny question."

"Sorry?"

Nian arched his brow. "You remember Grandpa said on stage that day that the men in our family are downright evil and shit."

She did. She couldn’t forget Liu Hai’s announcement and the difficult spot it had brought her in even if she wanted to.

"You know, you think you did some very unforgivable deeds. I mean, well, yes you did but you think that you are the only person in the world who can stoop to that level."

She frowned.

What is he talking about?

He chirped in a jolly mood. "Let’s say you would have told Jin that you cannot accept him because you genuinely love Hou Lin. What do you think would have happened?"

Her frown deepened. "Nothing?"

His eyes widened. "Really?"

"What do you expect me to answer? What could Jin do if I said I liked Lin?" fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"For starters, not let you two be together?"

She furrowed her brows. For a man like Jin who couldn’t even force the marriage contract on her, would he be able to force them apart?

"See, you are misunderstanding things here. You think he was being very kind-hearted to give that signed check before sealing the deal? That was only because he could afford to take that risk. Because he knew you held no interest in some other man so he would still have the time to find more chances to convince you."

She blinked.

"But well...if you were to indeed love Hou Lin, then my dear brother would have plunged your company into crisis himself before that idiot Kang Yuze could have. He would have personally made it impossible for you to bring Ren Designs back on its feet unless you decided to marry him. He wouldn’t have given you a signed check then. He wouldn’t have played a losing game then," he smiled.

She gave him a hard stare.

"You would have married him not out of dignity but simply helplessness. And he wouldn’t have minded that notion. Trust me. You think we hate you? It pales in comparison to how much more you would have hated Jin had he done that. We can go to any level if we feel threatened.

You did the things you did because you were possessive of your family. We do the things we do because we are very possessive of the woman we love. Shui was really, really an exception to this but there was no way he would have ever allowed you to be with Hou Lin. Not a chance."

He chuckled. "Which is why my dear daughter is wrong. You are not the wolf in this relationship, Jin is. At least in this part. When it comes down to seeing our love being taken away right in front of our eyes, the Liu men won’t be munching carrots on the side. We would be clawing and tearing our way in. So well..."

He shrugged. "Don’t let the past bother you too much. I mean, not like we are any saints here ourselves. You are evil, we are evil. You haven’t gotten married in a naive family. So how about we all just party?"

Alix didn’t know what to say to that and before she could, Jin’s figure came rushing back into the room.

"T-That...!"

"Shoosh!" Nian threw him a glare. "My angel is sleeping!"

"It’s Zhou Ai..." he breathlessly said, "She has gone into labor!"
