Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1088: The first smile
Chapter 1088: The first smile
While Ailun’s eyes were clearly an amalgam of his parents’ eye color, Junxi distinctly exhibited Jun’s genes. They held the same dark brown shade as her father. She wondered who she would take after lookwise. She was too small for Alix to be able to tell if she would look more like Ai or Jun.
Alix looked back and took back her dissatisfaction regarding Ai. It must have been tough after the delivery. Newborns only cried and slept and drank milk. It was a rollercoaster of energy required to look after a baby so small.
She should be resting in her room, not hover outside if she is so tired, Alix frowned.
Alix wasn’t sure what to do. Should she leave?
There was no harm in Ai taking her power nap and letting the stroller be unwatched for sometime. They were safe in the Liu garden compound. But when Junxi looked like she was about to drop a wail, Alix was swift to make some comic hand gestures for her entertainment. It worked and Junxi looked extremely focused.
Why isn’t she asleep? Don’t newborns sleep the whole day except for the time they drink milk?
Alix quietly sat down on the bench at some distance from Ai. She intently watched Junxi while Junxi intently watched her too. The baby wasn’t making any particular funny expressions yet Alix felt it was quite entertaining to watch her.
"Do you want to hold her?"
Alix froze hard. She peeked at the time and realized it had already been over thirty minutes since she had been watching the baby. She cursed herself for losing track of the time. She didn’t respond for a long moment. Then when she turned to look, her eyes almost got blinded by Ai’s sparkling enthusiasm. Clearly, the power nap brought back her lost energy.
"No, tha-"
"Junxi is very cute! She is like a small fluffy dumpling! You will definitely melt once you hold her! Maybe cry a bit too. Jun always does. His face becomes a crying mess!"
Before Alix got another chance to reject, Ai happily picked her daughter from the stroller and sat closer to Alix. A look of horror flashed past her eyes and she tried to distance herself from Ai but the latter was faster in placing baby Junxi in her arms. She adjusted her hands and grip while Alix stayed frozen like an immovable pillar the entire time. Suddenly, she was staring at Junxi who was nestled too close to her chest.
"Look..." she didn’t dare to even breathe, "Take her away from me."
"But she already looks so comfortable with you!" Ai chirped. "She didn’t cry even once. And for some reason, she seems to really like staring at you."
Alix couldn’t hear a single thing Ai was saying to her. The only end goal lodged in her mind was to not let Junxi fall at any cost. Even if a thunderstorm happened to arrive right now, Alix’s job was to sit absolutely still and not even twitch a muscle.
Ai’s brow twitched. "You are being too stiff. You can relax, you know? She is not going to fall."
Easy for you to say.
At that proximity, Alix found Junxi’s eyes to be even prettier. They shone with curiosity and light.
"You shouldn’t be letting me hold her."
"Why not? Clearly, you two are enjoying each other’s company. Though I am not sure what you both are trying to find in each other’s eyes so deeply," she slightly sweated.
"You seem a little too lax towards a woman who killed you once upon a time."
"I think I can reasonably be lax towards a woman who stabbed a man without any hesitation to save me and my unborn baby."
She held a dry gaze. "Are you going to hold onto that incident forever and give me the clean chit? No wonder you died by my hands in the past. You are too kind for your own good."
"Junxi wouldn’t have been here with us if not for you that day so yes, I think I can hold onto that incident forever. And if you didn’t want me to hold onto it, then why did you bother saving me? Which brings me to my next question. If you think you are so unforgivable, then what was the reason for you getting a second chance?"
Alix didn’t have an answer to that. freewebnσvel.cøm
"My guess is that your story has yet to get a proper ending. Which brings me to..."
Ai scooted closer to her and sparkled. "Jin!"
The corner of her lips twitched.
"I understand the situation in which you two got married but Jin will really keep you super, duper happy," she seriously nodded. "He is a mini-Jun version which means he is super cute. Can you give him just one chance to win you over?"
"Cute?" Alix threw her a distasteful look. "With what eyes do you see that? He is just a snarky piece of shit."
"..."
"Okay, maybe he acted a little too grumpy but-"
"Arrogant, not grumpy. He made me waste my time behind Wang Xia and cut off his own family members to reach him. He just rotted in custody and put everybody in the spot for what? Just to look at my face?"
It was indeed true that Jin had caused nothing but trouble with his actions so Ai could only purse her lips in response.
"What’s happening here?"
Suddenly, Jun’s entrance from the back brought another wave of freeze within Alix. The panic spread faster knowing that she was holding his daughter.
Just kill me already. I shouldn’t have stepped out of my room.
"Pastry aunt!" He hopped at Alix’s side and brightened upon seeing Junxi in her arms.
"Jun!" Ai similarly chirped upon seeing Jun and eagerly pointed. "Look, look. Junxi is so obediently being with her. She didn’t make a fuss at all. Aren’t they cute?" she grinned.
Jun’s pointed and heavy stare landed on her which only brought forth a steep silence in the air. He felt a sharp kick all of a sudden and his brow twitched seeing his wife’s displeased expression and squinted stare.
Don’t make this uncomfortable for her, Ai’s narrowed eyes clearly said.
"...Yeah. They look cute together."
Amidst that odd atmosphere, Junxi let out an ever so light smile at Alix. Alix blinked twice, wondering if she was hallucinating.
"She smiled!" Ailun gasped. "Pastry aunt is so lucky! She showed her first smile!"
