Reborn to Become A Queen: The Real Heiress's Comeback-Chapter 422: Kidnapping
Chapter 422: Chapter 422: Kidnapping
Huang Gun saw the tense standoff between Xue Yifeng and Dugu Yan and decided to mediate.
"Oh, Young Master, just relax and go back. Xue Lingling is a stranger here and wouldn’t go anywhere. Besides, can’t you trust the Brave General? And anyway, with your sister staying in the Regent Prince Mansion, no one would dare to bully her!"
Xue Yifeng thought for a moment. Who in Nanjin would dare provoke the Regent King, Mu Yan?
If it weren’t for being deceived, he wouldn’t have taken action against Zhan Lan.
His assassination skills were already top-notch, yet he still failed. He was convinced the Regent Prince Mansion was currently the safest place.
"Alright then, Xue Lingling, don’t cause any trouble, got it!" Xue Yifeng instructed.
"Yes, yes!" Xue Lingling replied excitedly.
After Xue Yifeng left, Xue Lingling let out a long sigh of relief.
Gratefully looking at Huang Gun, she then grabbed Dugu Yan’s hand and said, "Dugu Yan, if only you could become my sister-in-law, my brother seems quite afraid of you!"
Dugu Yan’s gaze flickered. "I won’t become... your sister-in-law."
Huang Gun smirked cheerfully, "Dugu Yan, why so nervous? Could it be that you’ve slept with the Young Master Xue Yifeng?"
In an instant, Huang Gun received a solid kick on his backside, sent flying by Dugu Yan.
"Ow! Hey, I must’ve struck a nerve..." Huang Gun muttered while rubbing his sore behind.
Dugu Yan’s ears turned crimson as she gritted her teeth, "Huang! Gun! Get lost!"
Before Dugu Yan could clobber him, Huang Gun dashed away like a streak of lightning.
Xue Lingling laughed heartily, "Haha, my brother wouldn’t sleep with a woman. He always sleeps alone!"
Dugu Yan’s lips twitched. Did this silly girl even understand what Huang Gun meant?
She spoke of "sleeping" in the most literal sense.
After finishing lunch, Xue Lingling felt drowsy and said to Vermilion Bird, "Little Vermilion Bird, let’s go take a nap too!"
Vermilion Bird: "..."
Dugu Yan swiftly wrapped a protective arm around Xue Lingling’s shoulders and said, "A woman shouldn’t casually say the word ’sleep’ to a man, let alone suggest sleeping together."
Xue Lingling asked curiously, "But why did you say you’d sleep with Mr. Xiao then?"
Dugu Yan: "..."
She cleared her throat lightly. "Anyway, you just shouldn’t say such things! I can say it, but not you!"
Xue Lingling’s mother passed away early, and before marriage, no one had taught her these things. She had no understanding of the matters of love between men and women.
Looking at this little princess, so sheltered by her clan, Dugu Yan shook her head.
They were polar opposites—one was a flower raised in a warm greenhouse, the other a wild grass battered by storms.
One knew nothing; the other, too much.
Even though she was a year younger than Xue Lingling, Dugu Yan, born into a bandit family, had been self-reliant since childhood, far more mature than Xue Lingling.
Dugu Yan suddenly felt the urge to teach Xue Lingling a thing or two. But considering the sheltered world she grew up in, she thought better of it—no need to corrupt this naive girl.
...
Prince Wei Mansion.
Si Jun learned that the assassins from the Poisonous Insect Clan had vanished overnight. He clenched his fists and slammed a cup on the table, roaring, "Nothing ever goes smoothly!"
He stood up, his eyes dark and stormy, and strode purposefully to find Zhan Xuerou.
In the past two days, Zhan Xuerou had recovered, and no unusual signs showed on the surface.
Standing before her, Si Jun asked, "Have you decided? What’s the plan?"
Zhan Xuerou’s eyes were resolute as she replied, "I’ve made up my mind. Before tonight, I’ll bring them to you."
Si Jun smiled faintly. "Good. I’ll be waiting."
Zhan Xuerou left the Prince Wei Mansion in a carriage. Clenching her fists, her nerves were fraught with tension, and her heart pounded uneasily.
The carriage stopped at the General Mansion. Zhan Xuerou stepped down, her footsteps soft as she made her way to the entrance.
The gatekeeper, Old Li, opened the door for her with a distant yet polite demeanor.
"Thank you," Zhan Xuerou said gently.
After entering the courtyard, her first move was to find Qin Shuang. Learning that Qin Shuang was watching Zhan Heng and Zhan Rui train in the yard, she immediately went there.
Zhan Heng was practicing his horse stance, beads of sweat dripping from his forehead. Zhan Rui was alongside, mimicking him seriously.
Qin Shuang chuckled, "Rui’er, perhaps you should stop training."
Her Lan’er had already suffered so much, surpassing even many men. She didn’t wish Rui’er to endure the same struggles.
Zhan Rui stubbornly replied, "Mother, I’m already eight this year. I’m late to training as it is. I must work hard to catch up with Sister!"
Qin Shuang could only smile helplessly. If Rui’er was willing, so be it.
A girl knowing some martial arts for self-defense wasn’t a bad thing.
Suddenly, Zhan Xuerou’s voice rang out behind Qin Shuang.
Qin Shuang turned and looked at Zhan Xuerou, surprised. "Why are you here?"
Zhan Xuerou smiled warmly. "Rou’er came to visit my younger siblings."
Qin Shuang nodded. "I’ll get you some food. Stay and keep Rui’er and Heng’er company for now."
Zhan Xuerou agreed with a smile. Zhan Rui and Zhan Heng, not particularly close to her, merely greeted her dryly as "sister" before falling silent again.
As Qin Shuang left, Zhan Xuerou subtly glanced around, noting an increase in guards compared to before.
Her mission today was to kidnap at least one of Zhan Rui or Zhan Heng.
Si Jun was likely preparing for a coup. Risking so much was a clear indication of that.
If the legitimate second son or daughter of the General Mansion was captured by Si Jun’s people...
Then the Zhan Family, currently holding military power, would have to think twice before opposing Si Jun’s coup.
Sweat drenched Zhan Xuerou’s palms. Since her former parents no longer cared for her, and these younger siblings had no emotional ties to her...
Then they couldn’t blame her!
Zhan Xuerou knew this would be her only chance.
If she succeeded, Si Jun would give her the divorce letter, freeing her from his control.
If she failed, Si Jun would undoubtedly throw her to those filthy beggars.
Zhan Xuerou’s breathing quickened as she watched a group of Protectors walk away.
Timing it precisely, she waited for the next group of Protectors to leave. Turning her back to Zhan Rui and Zhan Heng, she made a hand signal toward the outer wall.
This was the covert signal Si Jun had taught her; his Death Guards recognized it as the command to act.
After signaling, Zhan Xuerou’s face turned pale with fear.
Suddenly, ten or so Death Guards leaped into the General Mansion’s courtyard.
At the same time, a hoarse voice shouted, "Rui’er, Heng’er, run!"
Zhan Xuerou saw Qin Shuang nearby, the snacks in her hands tumbling to the ground.
Zhan Xuerou immediately shielded the nearest Zhan Rui. A Death Guard lunged forward, slashing Zhan Xuerou’s arm with a dagger.
"Ah!" Blood gushed from the wound, exposing raw flesh on Zhan Xuerou’s arm.
This was all part of her and Si Jun’s plan. If her act didn’t look convincing enough, the General Mansion would surely suspect her!
She only prayed that amid the chaos, the Death Guards could capture Zhan Heng. If she protected Zhan Rui, no one would question her motives for coming here!
In the nick of time, Zhan Hui and Zhan Beicang arrived, followed by the Protectors. Both sides plunged into a fierce battle.
