Chapter 68: Special Formation

As the realization of a mana-channeling formation crystallized in his mind, Adrian’s excitement surged.

He couldn’t waste another second in his System Factory. With only less than three minutes left, he decided to return to the real world and start planning immediately.

"Back to reality," he willed, and the vibrant colors of the Factory’s domain dissolved in a flash of white light.

He opened his eyes in his dorm room and the System pinged:

[System Factory Cooldown: 01:59:59].

The two-hour wait was still in effect, giving him just enough time to work on his new idea.

Adrian’s mind buzzed with the concept for the formation.

It would be a rune-based lattice designed to extract mana from Magic Crystals and saturate the surrounding air.

The key was to create a Resonance Array, a circular formation inscribed with Siphon Runes to draw mana from the crystals and Convergence Runes to concentrate it around a central point; where he’d sit to cultivate.

A Stabilization Rune would prevent the mana from dissipating too quickly, maintaining a high density for hours.

The formation would require precise rune placement to balance the mana flow.

Too much siphoning could destabilize the crystals, risking an explosion, while too little would render the formation ineffective.

Acting quickly, Adrian summoned ten 1-Star Magic Crystals from his [Inventory] and they materialized on the bed.

He also pulled out a stack of copper wire for the rune lattice, a chalk-like mana scribe for etching, and a small zinc disc to serve as the formation’s anchor.

Sitting cross-legged on the floor, he began sketching the Resonance Array directly onto the wooden boards.

The circular pattern was intricate: a central ring for the zinc disc, surrounded by ten smaller nodes for the crystals, connected by copper wires etched with Siphon and Convergence Runes.

He worked with steady hands, the mana scribe leaving glowing trails as he carved each rune with precision, referencing the holographic blueprint in his mind’s eye.

Minutes later, the formation was complete. Adrian stepped back, admiring the glowing lattice.

The ten Magic Crystals sat in their nodes, linked by shimmering copper wires that pulsed faintly.

The zinc disc at the center gleamed, its Stabilization Rune anchoring the array.

"Now to activate it," he murmured, sitting cross-legged in the central ring. He pressed another magic crystal to the zinc disc and the effect was immediate.

The crystals hummed, their glow intensifying as mana siphoned into the air.

Adrian’s surrounding grew heavy with energy and he immediately took the initiative, closing his eyes to begin cultivating, drawing the dense mana into his dantian with each breath.

The process was intoxicating, the mana flowing faster and thicker than anything he had ever experienced.

It was like drinking from a river instead of a trickle.

Hours slipped by with the room falling into a profound silence as Adrian became absorbed in the cultivation process.

The mana density eventually began to thin, and Adrian’s eyes snapped open.

He noticed two things: the crystals were dim, their mana nearly depleted, and Karl was fast asleep on his bed across the room.

Confused, Adrian checked the time:

[9:24 PM].

"Four hours?" he whispered in shock. He had been cultivating far longer than intended, lost in the rush of mana. Checking his panel, he grinned at the result:

[Mana: 10.7%]

"Now we’re talking."

The jump from 1.04% to 10.7% was staggering and it was a testament to the formation’s effectiveness.

To others, using ten Magic Crystals was only a luxury and it would seem wasteful, especially since most of the mana lingered in the air, unabsorbed.

But Adrian didn’t care. His [Inventory] held thousands of crystals and he would only keep getting more. Even better, this progress was worth every crystal.

"Just a bit more of this and I’ll hit 2-Star in no time," he thought as his eyes remained fixed on the panel before dismissing it with a thought.

He returned the depleted crystals, now lifeless husks, to his [Inventory] and tidied the formation, returning the set up into his [Inventory].

Glancing at his roommate, he was relieved to see Karl undisturbed, snoring softly.

"It’s good he minded his business," Adrian muttered in relief.

Though it was late, Adrian’s mind was too alive to rest.

"One more dive into the Factory won’t hurt," he decided. "Time to start the Magic Cooler."

He lay back on his bed, closed his eyes, and willed himself to the [System Factory].

The world dissolved in a familiar flash of light, and he reappeared under the vibrant sky of his domain.

[Access Time Remaining: 02:59:57].

Adrian stepped into the workshop, the hum of machinery welcoming him back.

The Magic Cooler was next on his list, a device as ambitious as the heater but designed to absorb heat and create cold air, perfect for preserving food.

Its design mirrored the heater’s in complexity, using a 1-Star Magic Crystal to power a network of Cryonic Runes etched onto a Vyrillium core.

Instead of Pyralis though, the cooling element would be Glacium, a special alloy he planned on making.

The runes would siphon mana to lower the temperature and that would enable it to work as intended.

With everything sorted out, Adrian began sourcing the metals for the alloy.

~DING—DONG!~

[6:57 AM]

"Wake up, bro!!!"

Blinking against the morning light filtering through the dorm’s narrow window, Adrian pushed himself up and glanced at the time.

"Thanks for waking me up, but you should go ahead without me. I need to get ready."

Karl raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms. "Okay, okay, but you better be quick, man. Homeroom’s around the corner."

He paused, a playful grin spreading across his face.

"Also, you never told me what you were up to when you left the Academy yesterday. You’ve been acting all mysterious lately. You owe me some stories, dude."

Adrian forced a tired smile, waving him off. "Yeah, sure, I’ll fill you in later. Just go."

"Alright, fine. Don’t be late, Adrian!"

With his usual grin, he waved goodbye and slipped out the door, leaving Adrian alone in the quiet room.

Groaning, Adrian swung his legs off the bed and stretched even though his muscles protested.

He had barely slept, caught up in the rush of progress.

After the Factory’s timer ran out last night, he had reconstructed the formation for another cultivation session, setting a System timer to avoid losing track of time again.

When the cooldown ended, he had immediately jumped back into the Factory, wrapping up the Magic Cooler’s design.

The cost for all his progress was his sleep, and now exhaustion clung to him.

Yawning again, Adrian glanced at his panel:

[Mana: 15.01%].

"At least I’m closer to 2-Star," he muttered, dismissing the display with a thought.

The progress was worth the fatigue, but he still needed to pace himself better.

Recalling the timetable, he noted that after homeroom came Sword and Spear training, classes he could skip since they weren’t needed for him.

’Perfect chance to catch a nap,’ he thought in relief.

For now, he dragged himself to the public bathroom, splashing cold water on his face to shake off the drowsiness.
