Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Date? With a Math Test Paper

Holly Winslow: "..."

’You don’t even eat them,’ she grumbled internally. But she didn’t say it out loud. She figured if she did, Mortimer Quincy would turn green with envy. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"They’re all for you."

Hearing this, Preston Quincy scoffed. ’She gave them to someone else, so how can they all be for me?’

He pressed his lips together and said gloomily, "Then go get them back. Every single one."

He was not happy. Not happy at all.

He hadn’t even had one of his darling’s cupcakes yet.

And she’d given so many to Shane Lester.

Holly Winslow knew Mortimer Quincy didn’t actually want to eat them; he was just jealous. She tugged at the corner of his shirt, made a "1" with her finger, and whispered, "I’ll give you a kiss after evening study."

"Ten," Mortimer Quincy grudgingly countered.

He looked as if things wouldn’t end well if she didn’t agree.

Holly Winslow: "..."

She reached out and pinched his cheek, warning in a low voice, "Quincy the Puppy, don’t push your luck." With that, she went into the classroom.

Mortimer Quincy was genuinely angry now. ’It was bad enough that my darling wouldn’t give me any cupcakes, but now she won’t even agree to ten kisses.’

He stood on the balcony without moving.

Class was about to start in a minute or two, but Mortimer Quincy still hadn’t come in. Holly Winslow glanced through the window and saw him still standing on the balcony, his back turned to her.

She muttered, "He’s practically a grown man, and he still needs to be coddled."

She put down her pen, walked out, and tugged on Mortimer Quincy’s sleeve. In a soft voice, she said, "Let’s go back to class."

Mortimer Quincy turned his head to look at her and pressed his lips together. "Oh."

It wasn’t a crisp, clean "oh," but a long, drawn-out one.

He sounded incredibly wronged.

Holly Winslow’s heart instantly softened. She looked up at him and coaxed, "Fine, ten it is. Don’t be mad anymore. There’s nothing going on between him and me. If you want cupcakes, I’ll bake you ten pounds of them when we get home."

Hearing "ten," Mortimer Quincy immediately raised an eyebrow and a smile crept onto his face. "My darling isn’t allowed to go back on her word."

Holly Winslow: "..."

She laughed and chided him, "Childish Quincy."

"Yep, that’s me. Childish Quincy."

Mortimer Quincy’s mood brightened considerably at the thought of ten kisses. Just then, the warning bell for class rang.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and said in a low, doting voice, "Time for our ’date,’ darling."

Calling class a date made Holly Winslow laugh. She nudged him in the chest with her elbow, her tone intimate. "A date with a math test?"

Mortimer Quincy patted her head and said roguishly, "A date with an English test would be fine, too."

Inside the classroom, Pantheon took out his phone, snapped a picture of the two of them through the window, and then showed it to Zeke Zane. "Zeke, we’re making Mortimer Quincy treat us to a late-night snack later."

He clicked his tongue a couple of times, unable to hold back his sour, single-guy bitterness. "Those two are so lovey-dovey I’m tempted to go report them to the dean."

Zeke Zane gave him a look that said, ’You’re a monster,’ and fell silent.

"But I support you in spirit."

...

After evening study, Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow used "doing homework" as an excuse to linger behind until they were the last ones left.

Once the lights in the academic building went out, Mortimer Quincy cupped Holly Winslow’s face and, without another word, kissed her with a loud SMOOCH.

"Nine more to go."

Holly Winslow: "..."

A few minutes later, she pushed against his chest in protest. "That’s twelve already."

Mortimer Quincy hadn’t expected his darling to actually be counting: "..."

He lowered his head, gave her another kiss, and said shamelessly, "Nonsense. That was number ten."

Holly Winslow: "..."

Holly Winslow made it into her dorm just in the nick of time, and Mortimer Quincy entered the boys’ dorm right as the doors were closing.

The dorm mother smiled and said, "Mortimer Quincy, studying late again?"

"Mhm," Mortimer Quincy nodded.

After he was out of earshot, the dorm mother who had spoken turned to another supervisor and said, "That kid studies so hard. He often comes back right before curfew."

She added with a sigh, "With a child like that, his parents must have nothing to worry about."

Dorm Room

The lights in the dorm room were already out. Pantheon and the others were huddled together, doing their homework by the light of their desk lamps.

Pantheon quickly finished the spicy strip he was eating and called out to the newly arrived Mortimer Quincy, "Scholar Quincy, quick! We’re stuck on a problem. We can’t get the answer for this one."

Mortimer Quincy walked over and glanced at it for a moment, then pointed to the diagram. "Draw an auxiliary line from here to here..."

A few minutes later, he pulled his hand back and said lazily, "Got it? If not, I’ll explain it again tomorrow. I’m gonna go wash up and chat."

Hearing the word "chat," Pantheon and the others were speechless: "..."

But they all understood the problem now.

Pantheon took out his phone, sidled up next to him with a mysterious air, and said, "Mortimer Quincy, I’ve got something for you. Consider it payment for tutoring us."

Mortimer Quincy, who was getting a washcloth and running some water, replied without interest, "No need."

"You sure?" Pantheon flashed the phone screen at him. On it, a boy had his arm around a girl, who was smiling up at him.

Mortimer Quincy’s gaze landed on the girl’s smiling face. He raised an eyebrow. "Send it to me, and I’ll buy you a meal."

...

Mortimer Quincy had changed his profile picture.

Holly Winslow only noticed a few days later. At first, she didn’t pay it much mind, only thinking his profile picture looked dark. Later, she accidentally tapped on it and realized it was the photo of the two of them on the balcony.

She put her phone away in her drawer, glanced at her empty deskmate’s seat, and let out a small "Hmph."

The school had assigned Mortimer Quincy to work with the student council on the display blackboard.

Apparently, some city officials would be coming to inspect the school in a few days.

「Dinnertime.」

Holly Winslow went to find Mortimer Quincy by the display blackboard, carrying both of their lunchboxes. It had been like this for the past two days.

From a distance, she could see Mortimer Quincy writing with a piece of chalk, his head slightly tilted. From the side, his profile was sharp and well-defined.

He gave off a bit of an alpha vibe.

Two girls were standing next to him, using the excuse of handing him chalk to keep staring at him.

Holly Winslow walked over. "Moira, time to eat."

Hearing the name "Moira," Mortimer Quincy raised a single eyebrow in surprise. He put down the chalk, clapped his hands twice, and wiped them with a tissue.

He took the lunchbox from Holly Winslow’s hands and said with a low chuckle, "Call me Moira again, and I’ll treat my darling to some pork ribs."

Holly Winslow pouted, saying resentfully, "Their eyes are glued to you. Don’t tell me you didn’t notice."

Mortimer Quincy absolutely adored it when his darling got jealous like this. He reached up and fiddled with her black hair tie, which had a little strawberry on it. "They’re not as pretty as my darling, so why would I look?"

Holly Winslow was very satisfied with his strong survival instinct. She shamelessly praised herself, "Of course. You won’t find a prettier wife than me."

After they finished eating, there were still twenty minutes until class, so Mortimer Quincy went back to working on the display blackboard.

Holly Winslow sat on a nearby platform waiting for him, holding a small booklet of required classical Chinese texts for high school.

"In ancient times, students always had teachers. Teachers are those who transmit the Way, impart knowledge, and resolve doubts. People are not born with knowledge, so who can be without questions..."

Mortimer Quincy glanced at her from time to time, his writing speed increasing. After about ten minutes, a quarter of the blackboard was already done.

He walked quietly over to Holly Winslow. Her head was down and her eyes were closed, and she was still mumbling through her recitation, "The teachers of those children, who teach them their letters and how to parse sentences, are not what I call those who transmit the Way and resolve doubts. And... and..."

She was stuck on "and..." for a good ten seconds, unable to remember the rest.

Mortimer Quincy raised an eyebrow. "To not know how to parse sentences or to have one’s doubts unresolved—some turn to a teacher, some do not. To learn the small things but neglect the great—I have yet to see the wisdom in that."

As he spoke, he reached out and patted her head, bending down to tease her, "Look how much trouble this is giving my darling. When we get back to the classroom, your hubby will help you ’teach it a lesson.’"
