As the droplet of divine energy entered Elena's parted lips, the air around her shimmered.
A radiant glow began to emanate from her chest, soft and slow at first, like the first light of dawn breaking over the horizon. The raindrops that had soaked her moments ago now seemed to evaporate from her skin, replaced by a faint mist of spiritual energy rising from her body.
Tiny motes of light—like fireflies born from starlight—began to circle her slowly, forming a spiral. Her snapped neck began to knit itself back together, bones aligning with eerie precision as golden light wrapped around her spine. Then, a subtle thump echoed in the silence—her heart began to beat, slow at first, then steady. The glow pulsed gently in rhythm with her heartbeat, each pulse a little stronger than the last. Her body rose slightly higher into the air, suspended in an unseen field of force.
The lotus above her had faded completely, its essence spent—but its presence lingered in the form of ethereal petals drifting around her, flickering with faint hues of color.
The villagers watched in stunned silence. Even the master, hovering nearby, kept his gaze fixed on Elena's body with narrowed eyes.
A faint golden ring began to form beneath her feet. Strange patterns etched themselves into the ring, glowing softly in ancient runes that none could read. The temperature shifted—not with heat or cold, but something entirely otherworldly, as though time itself bent slightly around the moment.
As her body slowly descended through the golden ring, a soft pulse of light surged outward. The moment her form fully passed through the ring, a divine breath seemed to flow into her—a spark of life carried on unseen winds. Her chest rose slightly as that breath settled within her.
Her body hovered there, bathed in celestial light, her expression peaceful. Gasps rippled through the gathered villagers. Some clasped their hands together in reverence, others fell to their knees, tears streaming down their faces as they recognized the miracle unfolding before them. Even the children stared wide-eyed, sensing that something sacred was taking place before their very eyes. Something ancient had been set in motion.
Few hours ago..
The leader smirked, his amusement clear. "Oh? And what if I don't feel like it?" He crouched before her, tilting his head as if pondering a deep philosophical question. "Should I let them live just because you beg?" He let out a laugh, then extended a single hand toward her throat.
Elena knew her time had come. The memory of Theos being born flashed in her mind—his tiny fists, his first cry, the way her heart had swelled with a love so deep it had eclipsed everything else in the world. She smiled faintly in the stillness between life and death.
"Sorry, my child... I can't be with you anymore to see your journey. I hope you live the life you wanted. Enjoy it. Marry someone kind. Have children of your own..."
That was her final thought.
Present—
"Theos...."
With a gasp, Elena's eyes flew open. Her hand shot upward, reaching as if to grasp something from the heavens. A long, shuddering breath filled her lungs as if they hadn't tasted air in centuries.
She lay on the wet grass, soaked from the rain. It had been fifteen minutes since the divine droplet entered her lips.
Samuel clutched Theos tightly beside her. Xiphos stood to the side, silent, while the villagers watched with awe and trembling anticipation. Even the master, calm and composed, turned to witness the impossible.
Theos leapt toward her after hearing her name.
"Mumma!" he cried, voice cracking from joy and disbelief.
"Mumma! You're back! You're really back!"
Samuel collapsed beside them, covering his mouth with a trembling hand. "Elena..."
Elena's eyes darted around, taking in the faces surrounding her—the villagers, the sky, the fading glow still lingering on her skin.
The air was calm and still, the storm having passed. Where Elena lay, the ground had already begun to dry, as if life itself rejected letting her touch death again.
The villagers gasped, many dropping to their knees. A chorus of relieved sobs broke through the silence—some praying, others simply weeping.
Xiphos stood quietly, a soft smile playing on his lips. His master said nothing, arms crossed as he watched the miracle unfold.
Elena raised a shaky hand, brushing Theos' cheek. "What's going on, Theos? Why are you crying? Where are those people?"
"I thought... I thought I lost you," Theos choked, pressing her hand into his.
Xiphos knelt beside her and gently took her other hand, helping steady her. "A lot has happened, Elena," he said quietly. "Let us explain."
Over the next few minutes, Samuel and Xiphos slowly recounted everything that had transpired after her death—the attack, the destruction, Theos' rampage, the divine lotus, and her miraculous resurrection. Elena listened in stunned silence, tears forming in her eyes as she learned of the sacrifice and grief that had taken place.
Now it was the next morning.
The village had spent the night mourning in soft whispers and shared silence. Some had huddled together by the fire, too afraid to sleep, while others simply sat in silence, holding onto the memory of those they had lost. The rain had washed away the blood, but not the grief. And as the sun rose over the broken rooftops, it illuminated faces marked by loss—and hope.
A tally of the casualties had been made. Nearly 80% of the village had perished. If not for Theos and Xiphos, it would have been everyone.
Though their numbers were few, the survivors clung to one another, offering what comfort they could. Some shared food and water. Others simply wept together, holding onto the memory of those they lost.
Theos refused to leave Elena's side. He tended to her as if she were a newborn—checking her breath, holding her hand, brushing away strands of hair.
But the truth was, Elena was more than fine. When Samuel helped her sit up and access her status screen, they were stunned to see her strength had skyrocketed.
She was now in the 8th stage of Muscle Forging.
Once barely a cultivator with strength equivalent to the 1st stage of Bone Forging, her resurrection through the World Lotus had changed everything. The lotus was one of the rarest treasures in existence—only two records had ever been found—and Xiphos' master had possessed the third one.
Now, that treasure was gone.
Xiphos' master stood at the edge of the village, silently observing everyone. Eventually, his gaze fell upon Theos.
He stepped forward and approached him.
"Theos," he said in a firm voice, "you should leave for the entrance test now. Any more delay and you won't reach on time."
Theos turned, his expression torn. "But..."
Before he could finish, the atmosphere shifted. Killing intent surged across the area like a tidal wave.
Everyone was brought to their knees. Some fainted.
The master's face twisted in anger. "Don't tell me you're going back on your word. Weren't you going to become the strongest? What happened to that?"

"Sir, that's not what I meant," Theos replied, shaking his head. "I still want to become strong... but I can't just leave my parents like this. What if—what if something like this happens again? I can stay here. I can grow stronger from here."
The master stepped closer. His voice thundered.
"You cannot do anything here. I'm telling you, Theos—there are geniuses out there. People who have never tasted defeat. Do you think being near your parents will protect them? What happens if I kill them all right now?"
Theos' heart clenched. His mind screamed in protest, but his body remained frozen. The weight of those words pressed down on him harder than the killing intent.
The master continued, his voice heavy. "Would you be able to stop me with your strength? Could you even slow me down?"
Theos gritted his teeth, heart pounding. No—he couldn't. Even now, he was powerless to protect them against someone like Xiphos' master.
And that truth hit harder than any strike ever could.
After several long seconds, Theos exhaled slowly.
"...Sorry, sir. I understand. We'll leave tomorrow morning."
The master gave a slight nod and withdrew his killing intent.
"Good," he said. "I'll keep your parents and everyone here safe for ten years. I'll take them somewhere far. But after ten years—they will be your responsibility."
Theos' eyes widened. Hope flickered across his face.
"Thank you, sir. You've helped us so much. I'll do everything I can for you."
The master waved it off. "If you want to do something for me... then just get stronger."
