Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 447: Dear Father (1)
It took a week before Adrienne could return to work and pick up her usual daily routine. Lennox was concerned about her health, but he assured her that the only discomfort she could feel was the slight soreness from her stab wound. Because of this, she also had to stop her usual morning exercise and workouts until the doctors signaled her to continue.
Adrienne stepped out of the shower stall with a white towel covering her naked body, feeling a sense of relief as the warm water washed away the stress and tension of the past week. She glanced at her reflection in the foggy bathroom mirror, noticing that she had lost weight for the past month when she was bedridden.
No wonder her husband was worried she might not be fit to return to work yet. However, she can’t possibly leave everything to Myrtle, Valerie, and Sunny. Her prolonged absence from the company might also lead to missed opportunities and potential setbacks.
As for her father, Adrienne knew she needed to confront him soon, but she already knew that he was already out of his mind for putting all the blame for the Jiang family’s misfortune on her. If his anger and desperation hadn’t consumed him, he wouldn’t have turned to attacking her to end her life.
According to her mother, her father seemed to have lost his mind, and his legal counsel would use this excuse to get a lower sentence. Adrienne did not doubt that her father didn’t feel any remorse for what he’d done, and he wished that she had died in the end.
When Adrienne arrived at the Chiangshi branch of Purple Cloud with Myrtle, Valerie was busy discussing the newest line with one of their VIP customers. Everyone suddenly fell silent, their gazes shifting toward her.
The public hadn’t seen Adrienne since the incident of her father’s attack on her, and it was the first time she was making such a public appearance, putting an end to the rumors of her being dead.
"Hey, Addie!" Valerie waved her hand to her boss in a greeting.
Adrienne sauntered towards them and smiled at the VIP guest before answering Valerie.
"Thank you for having me back, Val. It feels good to be out and about again," Adrienne said, her voice filled with gratitude and relief.
The VIP client admired Adrienne and her willpower to overcome the difficulties she had encountered.
"Is Sunny here too?" Adrienne asked. She felt her general manager would grill her with questions about her absence.
"She’s in the office making some calls. Sunny should be done by now." Valerie answered.
Adrienne thanked her, and she bid the customers goodbye before seeing Sunny. Myrtle knocked on the door once before opening it, allowing Adrienne to enter first.
Sunny, who was in a heated argument over the phone with someone, stopped whatever she was doing and stared at Adrienne as if she had seen a ghost. She ignored the voice coming from the other end of the line and dropped her phone, pouncing at Adrienne with tears in her eyes.
"Miss Addie!" She cried out, her voice shaky with emotion, "Oh my god, I was so worried about you. Are you okay? The whole company was in despair when you were gone; we all thought the worst as Myrtle wouldn’t tell us anything!"
Her colleague’s concern couldn’t help but touch Adrienne.
"Don’t blame her, Sunny. I’m fine now."
Sunny had difficulty calming herself down, and Myrtle had to help her get seated before handing over the phone Sunny had dropped earlier. Sunny took a deep breath, her hands trembling as she reached for the phone.
"I’m just glad you’re safe," she managed to say, her voice still filled with worry. Adrienne smiled gratefully, grateful for the support of her colleagues during her absence.
"I hope I didn’t cause too much trouble for everyone," Adrienne replied, her voice filled with a hint of guilt. Myrtle shook her head reassuringly.
"No trouble at all, Adrienne. We were just worried about you," she said sincerely. Sunny nodded in agreement, her worry slowly fading away.
"There were some partners and VIP customers who asked about you, but we assured them that you were recovering well and needed some time to deal with some personal issues," Sunny added, her voice filled with relief. Of course, she knew that someone among them was merely fishing for information or gossip, but she didn’t want to burden Adrienne with unnecessary stress.
Myrtle chimed in, "Don’t worry, we handled everything smoothly and made sure your absence didn’t affect any ongoing projects. You just focus on taking care of yourself."
Adrienne felt a sense of gratitude wash over her, knowing that her team had taken care of things in her absence.
"I’m so lucky I have you on my time. I wouldn’t know what I would do without you," Adrienne replied sincerely. "It’s reassuring to know that I can rely on all of you to handle things efficiently. Thank you for being there for me."
The difference between her past life and her present life was staggering. Around this age, Adrienne was already married to Alistair Han and was trapped inside her massive cage, which he called home. Myrtle had already gone missing, and Adrienne had no friends to rely on.
When Adrienne was trapped in her long dream, she thought she would never wake up again. The heavens had punished her for making such a massive ripple that changed her future and those around her.
Adrienne took a deep breath, looking around the office. Everything seemed calmer and more stable now, with Myrtle, Valerie, and Sunny handling things efficiently. She wondered how much her life had changed in just a few short years. Before, she had been a prisoner in her own home, married to a man who controlled every aspect of her life. She had no friends, and her future seemed bleak. Now, she had a support system of loyal colleagues and friends who cared about her well-being.
Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness thinking about her past life. However, she knew she had to let go of the past and move forward. However, she must remember what she learned from it.
She smiled and sipped the tea Myrtle had carefully brewed for her. She tried to focus on the present and the positives in her life. The office was quiet, but there was a sense of order and purpose. It felt like she had come home to a place where she belonged.
As Adrienne sat at her desk, she took a moment to appreciate the view from her window. She could see the bustling cityscape below, a world so different from the one she had left behind. It starkly contrasted with her previous life, where she was trapped inside her mansion, never allowed to see the world beyond its walls.
In the meantime, Myrtle had stepped outside to give the two women some privacy. As they spoke, Sunny began to fill Adrienne in on everything that had happened while she was away. She told her about the company’s performance, the new product lines launched, and other important news.
Finally, Sunny stopped talking and looked at Adrienne with concern.
"What are you going to do about your father, Miss Addie? He almost killed you."
Adrienne sighed, her heart heavy with the thought of her father.
"For now, let’s focus on the company and ensuring everything runs smoothly. I’ll deal with my father later. He’s still in jail, and I’ll have plenty of time to figure things out."
Sunny nodded, understanding Adrienne’s need for time to process everything. She knew Adrienne was still struggling but wouldn’t show anyone it. The Adrienne she knew was someone who rarely asked for help from anyone. If anything, she was ready to help anyone in need, but Adrienne would do everything on her own.
Sunny admired Adrienne’s independence and resilience, but she wished Adrienne could rely on others more. However, she can only accept and respect Adrienne’s decision, hoping things will improve for her soon.
Adrienne knew her friends were worried about her, but she wasn’t in a rush to see or talk with her father. She wanted the news of her recovery to reach him inside the prison, allowing him to realize that what he did was for naught. He attacked her, hoping she would die.
Adrienne lowered her gaze, hiding the coldness in her eyes whenever she thought about her father. She had spent years trying to forget the pain he had caused, and now she was determined to move forward and build a life for herself without him. However, it didn’t mean she would let go of her resentment towards him.
The tragedy that befell her wouldn’t have happened if Lewis hadn’t cheated on her mother and treated them well instead of allowing Camilla and her children to terrorize them.
Adrienne sighed and rested her chin on the back of her hand. She couldn’t wait to see her father crumble from stupidity and desperation.
Soon. Very soon. Adrienne reminded herself. Her lips curled up deviously because her father had no idea that the last laugh would be hers.
