Reincarnated As A Dragon With Cheats-Chapter 28: Azeth, The Chaos Dragon
Chapter 28: Azeth, The Chaos Dragon
Black flames burst from Azeth’s mouth.
The charging skeletons became the first to meet them.
They had no voices to scream, so the only sounds that followed were the crack and splinter of bones breaking apart, the hiss of marrow burning to ash.
The trees surrounding the clearing caught in the blast as well. The bark blackened, and the branches ignited in seconds.
Moments ago, the trees had made the battlefield feel suffocatingly crowded. Now, a vast stretch of scorched earth lay open before him.
As Azeth lifted his gaze, he noticed something peculiar.
The Undead Shaman stood within a small barrier, its surface faintly cracked from the blast. The fractures were visible but the shock on the shaman’s face was clearer still.
Around him, fresh graves split open one after another. Skeletons clawed their way free, dragging themselves from the soil. More were already rising.
"GO!" the Shaman shrieked. "Kill that bastard!"
Azeth mocked them. He was as unmoved as he was unfazed.
"Idiots are those who do not know when to give up. But who am I to say anything?"
He patiently waited for the skeletons to unearth themselves. He waited for them to group together and then waited a few more minutes until they charged mindlessly.
In the meantime, he cracked his neck and stretched a little.
And when they were finally close enough, he used the same skill again.
[Dragon Breath]
Another blast erupted from his mouth and engulfed the entire area. This time, Azeth moved his head from left to right.
The trees that had somehow survived on the sides were caught in it as well.
The small number of humans behind him, those who still retained some sanity and consciousness, watched in both joy and terror.
Their eardrums had already burst from the sound of the previous attacks, though they had nearly lost their hearing even before that.
Their sense of touch remained intact. They could feel the tremor and the shockwave run down their spines.
Some worms unearthed themselves as the tremors intensified, but they quickly burrowed back into the soil when they faintly caught sight of black flames melting the skeletons and even the ground itself.
Azeth stopped his attack when he heard the faint sound of glass shattering. It was loud, yet masked beneath the roar of his breath.
The nearby trees had caught fire from the embers that fell on them, and the flames had already begun to spread.
As Azeth looked closely, the shaman seemed to be on the ground, gripping a handful of soil in his hands.
Azeth tilted his head to the right, confused by the shaman’s actions.
’Is he begging? Or...?’
He did not have to think for long. The shaman made it clear what he was doing.
"You bastard!!! How... how... how dare you!? How dare you burn my trees down?!"
Azeth did not know why he had assumed the shaman would be furious about the skeletons being burned away. Instead, he was screaming about the trees.
"Master, I think this guy loves nature."
Pebbles lightly shook his head as he continued adjusting the mask. Though it had formed automatically, Pebbles felt it needed a few manual adjustments since he was considering a design.
"Azeth. The shaman is worried about the trees not because he is a nature loving guy..."
"Eh? Then?"
"It’s because he wants to conduct a ritual. Remember those diagrams carved into the bark of the trees?"
Pebbles did not need to explain further. Azeth understood the shaman’s plan. Late or not, he understood.
It became especially clear when red pillars of light erupted from the trees, rising left and right.
Azeth looked around in confusion. His expression shifted to surprise when a gigantic red circle formed in the sky. The red glow of the circle came from the pillars of light that merged into it.
The circle kept growing, and because it had captured his attention, he failed to notice the shaman forming a similar but smaller circle below.
Azeth noticed two things.
First, the trees that emitted the pillars of light began to shrink. They were withering. The leaves turned pale brown and black before falling to the ground. The branches thinned.
Before he realized it, every tree in the area had dried up. The greenery was gone.
The second thing he noticed was that the two moons in the sky had turned deep red. Azeth almost mistook them for a pair of eyes staring at him.
A slight tremble ran through his scales, though it was only because of the rapidly vibrating air.
When Azeth lowered his head, he saw the shaman absorbing a mysterious energy. The circle in the sky had begun to shrink, while the one beneath him was expanding.
The shaman was growing stronger.
"Azeth, kill him now! Forget about bringing him to the first floor! If he gets any stronger then..."
Azeth had only listened that far before he leapt forward. A long jump, followed by a dash.
He used the skill.
[Madness]
The skill did three things:
1. It increased his speed, strength, and attack power. It also reduced fatigue accumulation.
2. It slightly reduced his thinking capacity.
3. It gave him the wild look of someone consumed by extreme anger.
He formed a fist with his claws and tried to punch the shaman to death. But the shaman was ready.
The moment Azeth was just a meter away, the shaman extended his right hand forward and conjured another circle. From that circle came a blinding flash of light, and red flames burst forth.
Seeing this, Pebbles immediately stood up from his seat and screamed, "Azeth!!!"
But then a notification appeared.
Ding!
[Your Avatar Azeth has used the skill Blast Of Chaos Lv.1]
Ding!

[Congratulations!]
[Your Avatar Azeth has killed Undead Shaman Lv.29]
Pebbles remained stunned.
"Huh?"
That had barely looked like a fight.
Flames covered his screen, and he had not seen anything at all.
"How?"
He turned to his left and saw Nightstone standing there, her mouth wide open.
She too was stunned.
But Pebbles said nothing. He only gulped hard, realizing what kind of monster he had created.
"Remember this well, Nightstone. Although you are his senior, you must not anger him... He is Azeth."
"Azeth, the Dragon of Chaos."
"Ptui, so he’s just a dragon." All the surprise and bafflement Nightstone had felt vanished the moment she heard the word dragon.
And Pebbles decided not to correct her.
