Reincarnated As A Dragon With Cheats-Chapter 44: A Chance To Rectify
Chapter 44: A Chance To Rectify
It was a beautiful sunrise.
Pebbles sat on a rock just outside to enjoy the morning rays and heat. Lizards loved warm places and Pebbles now knew that even dragons did.
He felt good and was sure that Azeth, Azatoth, and even the shaman felt the same. But they were too stiff in his presence.
Nightstone was helping in various activities such as webbing the dead bodies to enable a smooth and easy carry.
It was not quiet but surely a peaceful morning.
The goblins had slept just a few hours ago and Pebbles thought it would be a war crime to wake them up so soon.
Also, he didn’t have any immediate need for them.
He wanted to talk to the shaman more.
He could see the shaman wanting the same.
"It must have been hard to unite the goblin tribes, yea?"
The shaman flinched upon the sudden question. She turned to him and gave a proper reply.
"It was. If I talk about the past me, it definitely was hard... it took me six months..." she chuckled to herself, which died quickly.
"I managed to unite most of them, but have made many enemies in the process."
Pebbles half guessed it, especially since he’d seen the previous mission just last night.
"The Frog-Men’s chief..."
Her eye opened wide when she heard that.
"A-as expected, you know about this, O’lord?"
Pebbles affirmed, "Hm. And I’m planning to take him out soon."
Azeth formed a fist out of his left hand and cracked his seemingly nonexistent knuckles a few times. He thought he was going to get assigned on the mission.
"Azeth, Azatoth, and you too. You all will come with me when I personally kill the bastard."
That was a bold claim from his side.
But Pebbles was simply that confident right now, especially after the chance that the system was giving him.
Ding!
[Access to use the Karma Points has been given.]
[Note: Karma Points are the most prized points in the world. They are a form of asset that everyone gets and can use. They can be used almost for everything. If one has enough points, they can even bring the dead back to life!]
Pebbles had thought about it for quite some time.
"So can I use them to level up instantly?"
[Affirmative.]
[Before the host reaches the next threshold of evolution, a single level will cost up to 50 Karma Points.]
[Next evolution threshold: Lv.25]
Pebbles kept thinking about that and he was sure he could kill Atuk that way.
But he would need some preparations too.
More than that, he had to take care of the problems at hand.
"How did you manage their food?"
The shaman lowered her head a bit as she hesitated to speak on the matter. But she knew Pebbles deserved to know about it.
"I couldn’t."
"Hm?"
"I couldn’t manage to gather enough food for all the tribes."
She came out and told the truth about what had been troubling her.
"I personally tried to hunt for them as they were just too weak, but it never worked out. I got too tired before getting enough."
This was surprising to Pebbles. He turned his head towards the young goblin children who had a hard time sleeping and were now lying outside.
There were dark circles due to lack of sleep, but worse was their skin that was too loose and wrinkled.
They hadn’t eaten for days. But they had this happy expression on their faces, much like many he’d noticed.
The shaman realized that Pebbles had noticed and came clean, "A spell."
"Spell?"
"Yes, I used a spell that gave them a feeling of satiety. I erased hunger from their minds... and this alone made them call me a messiah."
All eyes were on her when she said this, and she continued, "I simply used a cheap trick..."
Her voice got lower and lower, almost as if she was about to cry again, "...and I didn’t think much of them. I wanted to use them for revenge..."
Upon hearing that, Pebbles leaned back. He stared at the sky for a bit. A few birds flew across his view.
It seemed as if he was thinking something. The shaman kept her mouth closed after that and no one else said anything.
Pebbles wanted to reassure her, but he knew that she had made a mistake.
"I’ll give you a chance," he said in a voice fully deep. "Make it right. Prepare ways and strategies to hunt and gather food. Right now, we must prioritize health. Everything else is secondary. I don’t want to see any children die."
The shaman instantly jumped down off the slightly elevated rock.
She had a small smile hidden behind her mask as she said, "Yes, I will do that, Your Highness."
She had found a new path that she could follow, or perhaps it was a chance given to return to the previous path and wipe the mistakes that stuck out.
Either way, she was determined, and Pebbles made sure she remained that way.
With that, she left the place as if to think about it and draft something while Pebbles now looked towards Azatoth.
"Buddy, we have some time." Azatoth instantly turned his head towards Pebbles and lowered it right after.
"Yes, Master?"
"Maybe you both should have a small brawl, what say?"
Azeth, who was stuck looking in the direction in which the shaman had left, heard Pebbles’ words.
He turned his head instantly.
"U-us both, Master?" Azeth pointed the index claw of his right hand at himself and then at Azatoth.
Pebbles, with a smile, gave a small nod, affirming his query.
"Ahem, as you wish, Master."
They both jumped down the small stone and stood in front of Pebbles, almost in a battle pose.
Pebbles stared at them keenly as there was still doubt in their eyes.
"Yea, I’m not stopping you. Make sure no one gets hurt and no using of your skills. The battle will end when one of you gives up or is knocked out. Alright? With that said, begin!"
And thus began a small brawl between the two dragonlings, which Pebbles watched with much excitement.
The same was true for the several goblins who now came and watched the battle.
"You guys can support whomever you want. The smaller one is Azeth and the bigger is Azatoth. Up to you guys."
They were hesitant at first but soon it had become fiery. They were having exchanges between themselves and were surely enjoying it.
Pebbles thought this was a way for the goblins to trust them even more...
And he thought he had to do this fast as he glanced at the mission.
