Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Herd

Just as Condra had claimed, there was a large number of creatures far away from the Kingdom’s army.

And these creatures were actually Zebras, as he had guessed. But the distance between the two forces was a lot and he couldn’t immediately give a good estimate of their numbers.

"Continue scouting," Kael said as he walked past Condra who still had his head bowed. Condra’s body shook due to the oppressive aura coming from Kael’s body.

Only after Kael walked past him did he have the confidence to stretch out his wings to fly.

He shot into the sky and sped forward to continue his scouting.

Kael and Priya continued walking forward, taking their time. The army didn’t dare to leave them behind, it was as if they had practiced a formation that ensured that the King and his consort remained at the center of the beast horde.

However, the reason why the beast army maintained this pace and movement was because of the mini leaders of the different castes commanding them to do so.

’Hmm,’ As Kael walked, his mind wandered to the dings and notifications he was receiving from the lion system.

It seemed his supporters in heaven were getting active, he kept on receiving notifications that lions were joining the Lion System.

He assumed these were just the original Lion King supporters adding some of their clan members to the Lion System. Besides Exalon and the one-hundred-plus Lion Kings that had joined, no other Lion King had joined since then.

Fortunately, there was a new influx of Conquering Essence that had begun to flow recently. This new stream of Conquering Essence was not close to enough to kickstart the features he wanted, talk less of filling the Conquering Essence pool of those Lion Kings.

Kael had held back on the Conquering Essence and prevented any Conquering Essence from automatically flowing into the Essence pool of any Lion King. He had to save up again so that other features could operate normally.

To think that not long ago, he had more than enough Conquering Essence and now, because of so many Lion Kings joining the Lion System at the same time, he barely had enough.

Exalon alone had drained nearly half of his Conquering Essence reserves. If he had not intervened in time, the other Lion Kings would have swallowed his remaining Conquering Essence, which would have caused the Lion System to crash. He needed to expand his reach fast.

On the mission board, new missions were popping up, and some were eerily specific. Kael realized that he would still have to work on the mission board to avoid confusion.

Some lions were asking for companions to quell the rebellion of a vassal faction while some were simply asking for a certain enemy to be eliminated. The lions in Eridoria did not yet understand these concepts and they couldn’t accept some of those missions because they had no way of completing them.

Kael would have to make it so that some of these missions would have to be given directly to groups or clan group chats.

There should be a difference between public missions and private missions.

There was still a lot of work to be done, Kael realized.

Soon Condra came back but he didn’t land this time, he maintained his flight above and spoke to Kael from there.

"Your Majesty, they are indeed zebras and there are a lot of them," Condra said.

"How many?" Kael asked.

"I don’t know," Condra replied truthfully.

"Estimate," Kael pressed.

Condra thought for a moment before replying, "About two thousand," He said from above.

"That’s an average-sized herd," Kael said, Priya nodded. They had seen herds way larger in the past.

"Your Majesty, should we engage?" Condra asked.

"No," Kael shook his large head, "Our numbers are too large.

If we were few, we could get close to them without startling them, and we could have approached them stealthily.

But with so many of us moving at the same time, even if we wanted to spread out now, we would still alert them..."

"They may have already noticed us coming, although they might not know what exactly we are," Priya added.

Kael nodded, "What we should do is keep on moving, yes.

Once the zebras see our large numbers moving toward them, they will definitely run.

We won’t stop moving and the wounded will be forced to keep running for their lives. Running is one of the things they are good at after all.

Two things might happen if we do this. First, they might tire themselves out and one by one, they would lose the strength to run.

If this happens, we would pick them off one after the other until we have captured or killed the entire herd.

The second scenario is that they run to another zebra herd for safety, this would be like killing two birds with one stone.

If they can lead us to more herds, that’s for the best. They might even lead us to a mega-herd.

The sooner we capture many of them, the sooner we can shift our focus to other creatures."

Kael’s analysis sounded reasonable to both Condra and Priya.

"You and your scouts should prepare yourselves, go ahead and gather information on their ranks, who looks the strongest, who looks weakest, how many young ones, how many elderly, and their leader. Go," Kael commanded.

Condra flapped his wings and flew to the front. He shared this news with his deputies and the other bird castes.

Soon, some eagles, owls, hawks, and crows flew ahead of the main beast horde, led by their caste leaders.

The avians spread out, some going to the left, some going to the right, and some continued flying straight toward the zebras.

Over at the zebra herd. Many zebras had noticed the distant moving figure from the horizon. They could see that those moving figures were a lot and they were slowly getting closer.

Then they saw many other figures fly into the sky and spread out, the sheer number of birds that dotted the sky startled the zebras.

The leader of this herd, a tall zebra with a muscular body and a fierce temperament looked at the incoming birds and narrowed his eyes dangerously.

On his shoulders, sides, and hinds, he had scars that added to his rough and troublesome vibe, giving him the appearance of a warrior who had seen many battles.

And many battles he had indeed seen, and all of them he had survived.

Those scars were more or less trophies, representing the predators he had escaped from...or killed.

His hooves were stained with the blood of those meat eaters who hadn’t given up on their chase on time.

For him, the feeling of smashing his hooves into the flesh of his opponents was very normal for him, he was used to it already.

Seeing all the strange movements on the horizon and birds flying toward them, his instincts told him that predators were incoming, predators, unlike anything he had seen before.

His blood ran hot and his eyes dilated. Although he stood still, adrenaline had already begun to run through his veins.

Around him, many of the male zebras started to get restless, they too could sense the approaching danger and wished to react fast.

He was the strongest Zeba around, yes, but that was only in terms of combat power. There were still a few male zebras around who were close to his power level. frёeωebɳovel.com

However, since this was a migrating herd, they were working together and no one had the thought of fighting anyone for females or dominance for now.

"Sherone, what’s that?" One of the mares in his harem of ten female zebras asked at this moment.

"Danger," Sherone said before his limbs finally moved. "Let’s move!" He shouted telepathically.

The news was spread to the two thousand plus herd members and they all began to move in the same direction Sherone and the other dominant males were going.

They did not run, they were not sure if what was coming could pose a serious threat to them, and they also had to conserve their energy and stamina in case they ever needed to burst out with speed.

Condra and his squads of eagles soon closed in on the moving zebra herd from above. The other bird castes had split up, deciding to position themselves in different air spaces to deal with any situation more easily and gather more information.

Condra’s eyes scanned the herd, there were a lot of zebras but he was able to identify the biggest ones and the small ones.

Most of the zebras were white with black stripes but there were some with brown stripes, red stripes, green stripes, and electric blue stripes.

The eagle squad spread out, using a spirit eagle to maintain communication with each other.

Condra continued scanning the herd with an indifferent gaze until his eyes settled on one particular muscular zebra that was leading the march.

At the same time, Sherone’s powerful and sensitive ears twitched as he heard the distinct sound of metal feathers softly rubbing against each other.

He looked up to see a black eagle high above, staring down at him with a predatory gaze.
