Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 298: Abandoned
Chapter 298: Chapter 298: Abandoned
’Well, if that’s how it’s going to be...’ Kael thought to himself as he turned to Priya.
"Faster!" He announced through the spirit channel that the whole horde was sharing.
As soon as his order was made, it was transported from one mind to another until it had spread to everyone in a single second.
Instantly, they all knew that it was the king who had made that order. The whole beast horde suddenly increased its marching speed, causing the ground to quake slightly.
They weren’t running yet, just a casual jog but they had overall increased their pace.
For Kael and Priya, they did not try jogging. Space twisted around them and ensured that no matter how slow they walked, they would always maintain the same pace as the army.
At this speed, they began to inch closer and closer to the zebra herd. Eventually, the zebra head ahead noticed.
The powerful males who had kept looking back saw that the horde of beasts had already gone past the horizon line and was inching closer to them.
"Sherone! They are getting closer!" One of the males shouted as he started jogging again.
Sherone had been so focused on where he was leading them that he had momentarily failed to look back. When he turned his head around, using his superior height to look over the heads of the zebras and stare into the horizon, he saw what he needed to see.
The beast horde was getting closer.
What was annoying was that those pesky eagles were still flying above them and making bold cries that disturbed their peace. It was clear that the eagles were trying to rattle the minds of the zebras and make them divided in their panic to survive.
These eagles were worse than the vultures he knew of. At least, the vultures would usually wait for the creature to die before descending to do their work. But these eagles weren’t the type to wait, they could attack them anytime.
Speaking of which, Sharon realized that he had not seen any vultures in a long time now. He thought about it but simply chalked it down to incidence.
Some small eagles who were emboldened by the power backing them swooped down to harass the zebra herd.
Sherone did not appreciate this at all. Looking up, he saw that one ordinary eagle was swooping down again to try to harass one of the female zebras.
Sherone’s eyes glimmered with anger as his limbs vibrated with power. He timed himself before bursting with speed, running toward the diving eagle.
The ground cracked and trembled at his sudden outburst.
Condra, who was flying above, saw him and cried out for the eagle to halt his dive. But it was a bit too late, Sherone had timed it and moved when he knew the ordinary eagle would be unable to easily stop his descent.
The eagle spread his wings wide and flapped crazily to avoid Sherone. Sherone rose on his hind legs and jumped high.
His open mouth found its way to one of the eagle’s wings. Without hesitation, Sheronnbit down hard. He might not have canines, but zebras were definitely capable of packing a nasty bite.
Not to mention that he was a War Zebra, the kind that excelled at physical superiority.
The eagle found his wings bitten hard by Sherone and cried out for someone to save him, but no one came down to save him.
Condra gave the order that no eagle was to five down to save him, now was not the time to play hero.
The ordinary eagle flapped his other wing with all his might as he dangled from Sherone’s mouth. His talons and beak scratched at Sherone’s neck and muscular chest.
Unfortunately, all his attacks didn’t seem to do anything to Sherone’s powerful body. The eagle, which looked like a small bird when placed next to Sherone’s two-and-a-half-meter-tall body, did not have the power to harm Sherone.
There was not a single scratch on Sherone’s body from all the frantic attacks the eagle was throwing at him.
"Release me in the name of His Lion Majesty at once!" The ordinary eagle shouted through the telepathic channel Sherone established with him.
Sherone originally wanted to hear him beg for mercy, it was a fetish he had to watch meat eaters beg herbivores for forgiveness, it brought him joy.
But seeing the pompous words that came from the eagle’s mind, Sherone lost interest.
Before the eagle could realize his blunder, Sherone raised his head high, carrying the panicking eagle with him before slamming his head down with full force.
The eagle came down fast. Sherone still had a strong bite in the wing so when he slammed the eagle down, the wing was torn.
*EEEEEEEEEERGH!*
The eagle screamed at the top of his lungs, the pain was mind-boggling. There were still some strong pieces of flesh that held his joint to the wing but Sherone was quick to take care of that.
*BAM!*
Sherone’s front hoof slammed down hard on the eagle, crushing the bones of his wings in the process. For Sherone, it was like stepping on dried hollow twigs.
Ignoring the cries of the eagle, Sherone continued stomping his hooves on the eagle until the cries could no longer be heard. The surrounding zebras watched with joyful, yet fearful gazes.
Blood splashed everywhere as the bones and flesh were strewn apart, painting the grasses green.
Condra watched all this unfold from above with a cold expression. He looked at the direction the beast horde was coming from and saw that they had gotten closer.
Sherone was rash and at the end of the day, a War Zebra. His desire to make a point had allowed the unknown enemy to gain more ground and get closer to them.
"Let’s go!" Sherone shouted. He wasn’t too worried, as long as his plan worked, they would be able to get rid of that unknown army, whatever they were made of.
Sherone ran back to the front of the herd to lead them on and the herd followed obediently.
This time, they had to be faster than before since the unknown horde of beasts was closing in. They were also starting to see more birds that weren’t eagles appearing in the sky.
Due to their new state of hurry, it was inevitable that some zebras who were not in their prime would not be able to keep up.
One zebra noticed that she was being left behind by her herd. Her limbs quivered under her weight, she couldn’t believe that they would leave her. Sherone was not stopping for anyone.
Not just her, but many old zebras were starting to see that they were slow and the herd, unlike times in the past, was not stopping for anyone.
More and more zebras were slowly being removed from the herd, weaklings. Most of these zebras were old but there were some young and little zebras who could not keep up also.
It wasn’t their fault that they were this weak, but Kael’s army was not planning on showing mercy to these ones. If they wanted to absorb the zebras and make them conquer more zebras for them, it didn’t make any difference if they had weaklings or not.
Besides, they were seen as nothing but labor or food sources.
The mothers of those young zebras were extremely conflicted. They wanted to stay behind to guide their foals back to the herd but at the same time, they could also recognize that these younglings could not keep up.
It now becomes a question of their survival or their offspring’s survival. Most zebra mothers had to make the decision of leaving their offspring behind, they had to prioritize their survival first.
Some mothers lingered around their foals, hoping to still edge them on to continue running. The hope was fading away the closer the horde got.
As for the fathers of these foals, they couldn’t care less. Their survival would always be number one.
The zebras that were being left behind were starting to see clearly the faces of the creatures at the vanguard of the beast horde.
There were so many...
Those creatures at the frontlines acted as if they had finally seen the food that they had been deprived of and ran after the abandoned zebras with all their might.
Seeing the drooling wolves and foxes as well as the crazy goats and the hungry bears, most of the mothers who were waiting behind had no choice but to run for their lives, leaving their younglings behind.
But at this time, the main herd had already gone far and the abandoned zebras were very close to the beast horde.
The chase had already begun, they just didn’t know it. A group of wolves pounced on the nearest young zebra that had been left behind by its mother. The cries were smothered from its throat as its body was ruthlessly ripped to shreds in a few seconds.
His was just the first of many zebras that was destined to die today.
While this slaughter was going on in front of the beastly horde, the zebra herd was gradually approaching a river.
