Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 300: Death Roll
Chapter 300: Chapter 300: Death Roll
With Sherone taking charge, the other zebras acted immediately. They activated their powers and their auras rose. The river was disturbed as the zebras began crossing, intending to get to the other side as fast as possible.
Sherone’s limbs swished back and forth, pushing him forward through the flowing water. He felt the faint current of the water washing up on his body.
Behind him, the zebra herds rushed into the water after him, wading through the water and trying their best to cover as much distance as they could.
Sherone felt his hooves beat against the river bed, kicking up the lying rocks and causing a lot of disturbance in the aquatic ecosystem.
Suddenly, Sherone felt something hard and rough brush against one of his legs, causing him to flinch and react very drastically. He had already been very anxious and his mind had been all over the place, extremely alert in case of any danger.
Whatever had just brushed up on his leg just now had spooked him greatly, his reaction speed would have been measured in milliseconds. His limbs straightened and curved like they had just escaped a springboard. He leaped high into the air, jumping above the water and landing further ahead.
When he landed again, falling back into the water, his hooves actually struck something hard.
Sherone’s eyes widened as he saw his hooves land on the rough scaled-back of a black crocodile.
This was an ordinary crocodile that had been unfortunate to be swimming in the same spot that Sherone ended up landing.
Sherone’s was by no means lightweight, and with his active War Stare, he also packed a lot of unintentional punch.
Sounds of bones being shattered were heard as Sherone’s weight drove the crocodile to the depths of the river. The crocodile’s body hit the river bed, sinking a few inches into the aquatic soil.
Since there was no more room to move, Sherone’s spiked hooves cracked the back of the crocodile, breaking it apart and touching on the soft insides.
As soon as Sherone got his bearings, he immediately jumped again, this time not as high as before. He continued rushing toward the other side of the river, almost forgetting that he was leading a herd.
The river was heavily infested with crocodiles. This was something Sherone and other zebras knew about.
Yet, there was nothing to be done about it but cross.
For a long time, these bands of crocodiles had positioned themselves in this river, never intending to leave.
This was because they had discovered at some point that a lot of creatures crossed this river when migrating in large herds.
Crossing this river individually was nothing but suicide l, but crossing it as a large group gave chances of survival beyond normal.
Whether it was for finding greener pastures, escaping predators, or finding places to give birth. For some reason or the other, there were always herds of creatures crossing this river.
And these crocodiles have always been waiting.
Anytime herds decided to cross, it would be feasting time for them. It wasn’t every day they got to fill their bellies. Some crocodiles go weeks or months without eating anything at all, perhaps the occasional freshwater fish that swam around but that was not always certain.
Anytime these herds crossed the river, the river crocodiles would make sure to collect their tax in flesh, blood, and bones.
The river which had been flowing in one direction calmly was now being disturbed by two things, the zebras crossings and the surfacing crocodiles.
There was a significant rise in killing intent all of a sudden and the water suddenly felt uncomfortable to be in.
"Sherone!" One of Sherone’s mares shouted for him to pay attention to her. She was scared witless as she saw the many black things that were coming up to the surface.
One could say that these crocodiles were smart as they intentionally paid no attention to Sherone, knowing fully well that he was them to cross the river. If they killed him, most of the zebras would turn back and leave the river.
They didn’t want their food to run away.
Sherone heard the cry of one of his mares but didn’t look back, he had to make sure of his survival first before he could look after anyone at this moment. He continued rushing through the water.
Just now, something hard had brushed his leg and spooked him, causing him to jump. That thing was naturally one of the crocodiles and it was currently swimming toward the mare that had screamed.
Sherone was worried, he didn’t want anything to happen to any member of his harem, but he also wanted to reach the other side by any means necessary.
*SPLASH!*
Suddenly, a massive black crocodile burst out of the water with his long mouth wide open, its pearly white teeth glinting under the evening setting sun.
There was no warning, no signs, it was an ambush, one that Sherone could have prevented if he had just given a simple warning.
Everything seems to be moving in slow motion for the mare. She instinctively reacted, jumping backward at her fastest, reeling her head back, and raising her front hooves up and away from the splashing water.
But the crocodile was an experienced hunter, it had done this many times. Its crocodile’s mouth was already open and before the mare could react, the two jaws had the upper part of her front leg in between them.
Everything happened in an instant, the jaw snapped shut, and the teeth sank straight through the white and black flesh.
The bite grip was strong, too strong. The mare struggled to break free but she couldn’t go anywhere. She would have to break her own leg to escape and unfortunately, she didn’t have the mind or strength to accomplish that right now.
The black crocodile’s full body was revealed, it was exceedingly large and impressive, brimming with power like an aquatic, biological, armored tank.
It pulled, instantly dragging the zebra down into the water. The zebra screamed and made noises but none helped her.
The instant the crocodile appeared, her fellow zebras had all run away, rushing away from her as they continued to chase after Sherone frantically.
Water splashed high as the mare was dragged by the crocodile until her head was just a few meters away from being submerged in the chaotic water.
Her front hooves slammed into the river bed as she tried to stabilize herself and pull her leg away. Even with the commotion happening around her, the mare had lost the clarity of mind and was operating under a pure flight or fight response.
Then, the crocodile lurched forward again, taking the mare by surprise as its powerful jaws bit more flesh than before. The jaws snapped around her chest and shoulder, and blood dyed the river a saddening red.
The outcome was inevitable, the zebras had seen these scenes happen before. Usually, when a zebra had been caught by the jaws of a crocodile, escaping unscathed was next to impossible without the right amount of strength.
The mare was dragged further into the water until her whole head was submerged, her nostrils were invaded by the river water and her ears momentarily became blocked.
Just when she was about to perform a final pump of strength, the crocodile turned its whole body like a barrel, doing a three-hundred-and-sixty vertical spin.
A death roll.
The mare opened her mouth to scream in pain, causing water to flood her mouth. As the crocodile performed the death roll, her whole body moved along, turning in the same direction.
Before she knew it, she had gone upside down two times. But there was a bit of resistance from her side, something that wasn’t intentional, so there was bound to be some problems.
The mare felt her leg being twisted by the powerful spinning force. The bones snapped out of the joint and the flesh was being ripped out.
Blood spilled, mixing seamlessly with the water.
The mare felt her head slammed into the river bed underwater. Then her whole body was pulled by those powerful jaws again. The crocodile flung her out of the water before viciously shaking his head and snapping toward another angle.
The sudden change in direction was devastating, some flesh and bones from her chest as well as her whole legs were torn away by the inertia. She fell into the water again, but she did not have time to register what had happened to her as another crocodile out of nowhere, latched his jaws over her head.
This new crocodile was bigger and stronger, one of his fangs casually pierced the eye hole of the mare zebra, causing her an insane level of pain.
*SPLASH!*
This crocodile performed a death roll, splashing water everywhere and twisting the mare’s head off after three rolls.
The crocodile reared its long head out of the water as it indifferently swallowed the whole zebra head.
Meanwhile, up in the sky, Condra was watching all of this.
