Chapter 41: I’ll become his maid

’’They’re over there,’’ Roy said, pointing ahead.

The next moment, Roy and Hector jumped down from the dragon’s back, landing smoothly on the ground.

Their forces quickly followed behind them.

Hector spoke to Roy.

’’Remember what I said before. I’ll have a match with Kain to decide which team wins.’’

Roy nodded, his voice full of excitement.

’’It’s up to you... you’re the leader. After all, our team got here thanks to you, so you have the right to be selfish. If I complain about your choice, after everything you’ve done, I’d be nothing but rotten bastard.’’

Hector sighed. Indeed, he needed Roy’s agreement, because he had given up the chance to win this match easily.

’’Thank you.’’

A minute later, Hector slowly approached Kain’s team.

’’Kain!... My offer is still in effect.’’

Samson scowled in confusion and asked her teammate.

’’Kain, what does he mean?’’

Kain hesitated for a moment, then said,

’’He and I will fight one-on-one to decide which team wins... but if I lose to him, I’ll become his maid.’’

Valid snorted and glanced at Hector with mocking, disdainful eyes.

’’It’s must be kidding.’’

Then she drew her weapon.

’’We’ll fight with all our strength, even if we lose.’’

Hector narrowed his eyes when he saw Kain’s hesitation, so he spoke up.

’’Come on, ladies. Have you seen my command knight back there? He has nine green mana cores. You don’t stand a chance against him. Plus, I’ve got plenty of backup.’’

He added in a mocking tone. ’’If you guys want to go all out with my team, at least let’s consider my offer. Even if I’m lying, you can still take a strong guy like me out of the game, right?’’

Valid smirked, her tone sharp with anger.

’’Strong guy? You’re nothing but useless trash. Just a scum bastard. That boy behind you probably did all the work.’’

’’Stop it, Valid.’’ Kain scowled. Hearing her teammate trash-talk like that made her feel embarrassed and humiliated.

Roy cleared his throat and let out a short chuckle toward the girls.

’’You make me sick... ladies. The one you just insulted is my leader—and the reason you’re stuck in this situation.’’

Samson frowned and glanced at Kain. She would wait for Kain’s decision, no matter what she chose.

After about two minutes, Kain clenched her fist for a few seconds, then slowly relaxed it. Hector was right. She was already trapped in a situation where they no longer had the right to choose. Even if he lied and attacked them after she killed Hector, they would still be forced to accept it.

However, at least they could kill the enemy team’s leader. That alone was an advantage they might be able to exploit.

’’I accept.’’

Hector nodded in satisfaction.

’’Good choice.’’

Valid said softly to Samson.

"Prepare your weapon. As soon as Kain kills that trash, we’ll back her up and wipe out his fellows. Once the knights lose their master, I guess they’ll be useless."

Samson nodded, then asked,

"A good plan, but don’t you think it’s too early? I don’t think the match will end that quickly."

Valid smirked.

"Don’t worry. Even if Kain suppresses her mana core down to that trash’s level, he still has no chance against her."

"It’s just reality."

Samson narrowed her eyes and gazed at Kain. She was quite surprised by Kain’s serious stance—nothing like the casual posture she used when dealing with weaklings.

"I don’t think so."

...

"Looks like it’s round two for us," Hector said with a quiet smile.

Kain gave Hector an unclear look. She hesitated for a moment, then asked,

"Before we begin, I want to ask you a few things."

Hector blinked briefly and smirked.

"Sure. Ask me anything... After all, you’ll be my maid, so I should be honest with my subordinate."

Kain scowled in annoyance and asked,

"First, why are you so confident? You think you can defeat me with a 97% accumulated percentage of damage? Even if you’re a genius in swordsmanship, you still can’t beat me in that state."

Hector stared at Kain for a moment, then burst out laughing.

"So you admit I’m a genius in swordsmanship?"

But then, he stopped laughing when Kain glared at him. He simply shrugged.

"It’s not a big deal. I know how weak I am. If I lose, I’ll be expelled from the academy, then I’ll die. My life has always been on the edge between life and death. So I have no choice but to think positively."

"It’s hard to put into words, but when your life is always that close to death, you mostly stop caring about everything."

Kain narrowed her eyes. At that moment, she understood him a little better.

"So that’s why he’s changed... Just because he had no other choice," she thought.

She clenched her fist, forcing herself to ask the next question.

"H-How do you feel about me? Why did you choose me to... molest, out of all the girls?"

Hector tilted his head at the sensitive question. To him, it felt like an interview. If that was the case, he had to answer honestly to recruit her to his team.

He tried to recall the memories in his body. He needed to know what the Hector of this world thought about her. In the end, he just scratched his head awkwardly—because the truth was nothing but lust for a beautiful girl.

’’Because you’re beautiful... because I wanted you to be mine... it was kind of like that.’’

Hector’s words completely made Kain misunderstand. Her ears turned red, and a faint blush crept across her face.

It sounded almost like a confession.

But the next words quickly shattered her thoughts.

"But now, it’s changed a lot. You’re strong. I admire you, so I want you to become my maid. Not a normal maid—but someone equal. An actual partnership."

Silence.

However, Hector began to sense a change in the atmosphere.

It was suffocation.

Kain shot him a sharp, lifeless stare. Her voice was filled with irritation. An emotion that she herself could not understand.

"Yeah. You really are a bastard.’’
