Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire-Chapter 310: A true miracle
Farini repeated my words, and humans replied to him, erupting in cheers. Servants brought baskets of grain and began throwing them and small coins into the crowd, creating an atmosphere of celebration.
If people didn't believe in a new god, they believed in their symbols of prosperity (and free money).
Referring to the prayers and speeches Explanatory's and Worriesgone's people came up with for today, and I checked, fixed and memorized, I led Farini through the entire ceremony.
From what I could tell, Farini was a charismatic leader, and people followed him eagerly in the communal prayer and praise for the God of Dodos.
But after an hour of this, when people began getting tired and sweaty under the tropical sun, it was time to finish there and go inside for the more private ceremony.
Since the temple was small, only a dozen people came there with Farini. These were the ones either most devoted, or most important: the richest nobles of the surroundings, people whose support and faith Farini and the Bee Empire needed the most.
The rest, still watched over by his guards, stayed outside and celebrated in the usual ways of the uneducated lower-class people: ate food and drank alcohol.
(Both were provided by Farini, who got his supplies from the city's governor, who was by now fully devoted to Farini's cause because one of his doctors trained by my instructions helped the governor's daughter.)
Inside, the temple was a simple and barren place. Ascetic, even.
Besides more frescoes, the only decoration was a large altar, where bees burned a pile of wood that could be used to build several bee-sized houses. The smoke was leaving the temple through the windows under the roof.
A few thousand bees gathered a safe distance from the fire in neat rows, creating a pyramid in the air. I took my position too—it was at the very top of the formation, wearing my bright dragonscale armor and wielding a golden spear.
This sight alone was awe-inspiring enough for all the devoted humans that they gasped and fell to their knees as soon as they crossed the temple's threshold.
Outwardly, I watched them impassively, but mentally I was actively talking with other bees.
'Nobody is going to fall from the air because of not enough stamina, Bloodimina? No? Good… And everybody remembers their cues?'
'Of course, Father. Although my Beemarines don't have the blessing of the perfect memory gene, they studied and trained hard to remember all the movements.'
'Great! Then let's begin.'
I shifted my focus to humans.
'Mortals! Raise your eyes to this shrine… Together with the guardians of the divine, bring your sacrifices and your prayers to welcome the new god in this land! Let the most blessed among you, Farini ma Michka, speak his prayer in sacred silence.'
This ceremony was eerily quiet, save for all the thoughts in the air, the buzzing of bees and the cracking of the fire on the altar. The idea that words are impure and the holy beings must be only spoken with via thoughts was just a convenience for our telepaths, but these humans took it seriously.
None of them spoke a word as Farini approached the burning fire on the altar and threw some fragrant herbs inside.
The pungent scent of the smoke made my antennae curl in distaste. It was too strong for bees' sense of scent.
As he did that, the bees in the temple moved. Instead of a pyramid, their formation became a half-sphere that surrounded the fire. And everybody worked with a parade-like synchrony! With this simple, but elegant movement, my girls brought even more awe into these humans.
Then all the humans prayed in silence, while the Agents reported to me their reactions to the ceremony. Both their awe and their lack of.
Some of the humans weren't very impressed with the unusual art style of the frescoes designed by bees. Others thought the temple was too small for a god. The third ones just imagined other ceremonies, more traditional, with priests and long processions that would go down the streets.
These people had doubts!
And I could do nothing to break them today. I already did all I could.
By this point, I was just expecting the ceremony to end eventually, everybody to go home, and hopefully, to see Dalmanrach in my tea again.
But then, I was shocked together with everybody!
Suddenly, the column of smoke that stood between the bees and the humans shifted and transformed into a gigantic figure. Its head reached the ceiling, which made it twice as tall as an average human—and hundreds of times as tall as a bee!
The humans gasped, staring at the transformation of smoke in awe and fear, before they all bowed even deeper and with more fervor than before!
Immediately, I got reports from the Agents attached to them.
'Father, Farini thinks he sees the God of Dodos in the smoke!'
'My human also thinks he sees the God of Dodos… Is that really him? From here, it looks like someone, at least!'
And this was with all eleven humans in the temple!
The surrounding bees, most of which were Beemarines, were just shocked, but they all were too disciplined to gasp or move out of formation. Their shocked thoughts were too loud to ignore, though.
And I was probably one of the most shocked people around, especially when the figure began to talk!
"I greet all of you, my mortal students and my divine guardians," the smoke figure said in Dalmanrach's familiar voice. "Rise and come to me, Nectus the Emperor and Farini the Messiah. I shall share with you the secrets of the gods so you can share it with all."
Somehow, although I heard his voice with my ears and not mind, Dalmanrach's words were understood by humans and bees at once. I knew it immediately from Farini's reaction.
He slowly stood on his feet and raised his eyes to the ceiling, where the smoke's "head" was.
And I flew to him, wanting to be in a position where I could finally see the entirety of this god-made show!
