Reincarnated With A Glitched System: Why Is My MP Not Running Out?-Chapter 1593: The Ancient Times
-----
Aquarina learned a bit more about ancient times, times when things such as magic weren't so easily found among common folk. Although there were still many magicians, shamans, warriors, and so on, the cultivation of Magic Circles wasn't as widespread, and not just any commoner or country bumpkin could get one and suddenly be able to conjure a bunch of useful magic spells to facilitate their daily lives.
"Well, there were still a lot of amazing magicians, truth be told," said Undine. "Magic Circles weren't the only way to gain more Mana and Magic Power, did you know?"
"Oh, like making Familiar Contracts?" Asked Aquarina.
"Yeah I guess that's one too, though the Spell for Familiar Contracts wasn't as widespread either back then, or it was still improving," said Undine. "It could be said that as society advanced, things that only the talented could use became widespread enough that even the most common kid out there could learn if they put the effort into it. This created more equality around the world."
"You mean you needed talent to contract a familiar before?" Aquarina raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, usually having to be blessed by a spirit beforehand, or a god, sometimes just having that talent from birth, feeling the spirits or being able to communicate with animals inherently instead of having to use spells to do all of that," explained Undine. "Of course, that was mostly for the less magically attuned races like humans. The reason why Elves have remained among the strongest race in the world is because of how long they live and how incredibly magically and spiritually attuned they are since birth, even the lowest born elf had more talent with magic and spiritual energies than the most talented human wizard."
"T-That's unfair…" Aquarina muttered.
"Not that much when you realize Elves are born with much weaker physiques, they cannot easily build muscle, and their physiques grow incredibly slowly despite how hard they may try to train," explained Undine. "Of course, after hundreds of years they'll get better at physical combat, but they're always using magic to support their fighting styles… humans didn't."
"Humans didn't?" Aquarina asked.
"What humans lack on magic power and lifespan they make up for their incredible ability to multiply very quickly and also for their physique growth! They're among the races whose physique grows the fastest, right after Anima and barely surpassed by Dwarves," explained Aquarina.
"Anima… the beast people? I guess it makes sense their bodies develop the fastest, they're really strong," Aquarina nodded. "And if you count the special tribes of humans, such as the Amazonian or the Darkage Family, they are among the strongest. Amazonia Humans are… well, perhaps the physically strongest tribe… Hm, perhaps there might be Demon Tribe that surpasses them, they're very varied."
"I knew that but… Wait, a Demon Tribe that could surpass our physical strength?" Aquarina asked. "I want to see that now! Are they muscly?"
"I've heard of Tribes of muscular giants, the Oni, who live in mountains, some are warmongering, and others prefer peaceful environment," said Undine. "And then there's the Vampire Tribe, powerful, with incredibly long lifespan, agile, and magically gifted. But they have several weaknesses too. Lastly… I remember there was another race out there. A race of scaled giants with giant black horns and bulky arms and legs. They're considered unparalleled around the Demon Continent, and only heroes can defeat their mightiest warriors."
"Woah… Is there such a strong race?!" Aquarina gasped. "Who are they?!"
"I don't recall well their names… It has been so long since I've heard about them… I've never met one in person, unlike the Vampires or the Oni," Undine said, revealing she had traveled across the world as a water spirit a lot. "Aah, I really don't remember."
"Oh well… Maybe one day we'll meet someone of thar race," Aquarina smiled, feeling pumped up. "Once we go to that Academy in a year or two, I've heard they were also recruiting Demon Students from Sylphy's grandpa. It is also part of some sort of student exchange program to incentivize the acceptance of Demons in society across the continents."
"Sounds great! Demons and the other races had been always in war since the beginning, but these last hundred years… Things seem to be finally changing," Undine smiled. "I'm glad the King of Elves is trying to improve things and change traditions and battle discrimination. Although both sides have good and also bad people, so he shouldn't be too reckless. The same way there are many corrupt elves, some that had also become powerful criminals in the past, even though they're widely regarded as very pure people of nature, there's also still resentful people within demons that want to harm innocents."
"I-I guess… Though if you begin saying that out loud people's bound to get angry, it's a bit hard," Aquarina sighed. "But yeah, I mean, I know firsthand that demons are just like any other person out there! And like any other person out there, they can grow to be amazing and lovely people, admirable and strong, and then… if life doesn't treat them well, they could also grow to become spiteful and hateful. They have a long history of war and discrimination though, it's… never going to be easy to surpass that. And I bet there's a lot of demons that still want to wage war against the other tribes."
"I believe the same for humans, and other tribes such as elves as well, there are many factions spread around the demon continent, several of them want to "colonize" that continent and take over it, and the inhabitants are constantly battling against these invaders. The death of the Demon King has made some of these factions believe they have the right to conquer the continent and extract all their resources… It's just wrong," sighed Undine. "As a spirit, I've lived a long time, I've seen war after war, death after death… Most of these are driven by greed and pride, stubbornness and discrimination. To truly step into a new future, sometimes we must even forbid traditions altogether."
"I wonder if there's a good middle ground though. Keeping traditions while also improving for the future…?" Aquarina wondered. "There's a lot of great traditions after all…"
"I know…" Undine nodded. "It's complicated, and perhaps something we'll never see a true answer."
"Nah, with Sylphy, we'll find a way," Aquarina smiled confidently. "We're super strong, and we'll continue growing… It would go to waste if we don't use this power to protect the weak or abused, right? Or well, that's what I like to believe, what my parents taught me and all."
"Hmm, indeed," nodded Undine. "What do you think, Pyuku?"
FLASH!
Pyuku appeared by Aquarina's side, he had been listening to the entire talk for a while.
"I have to go back to my continent eventually, my home…" said Pyuku. "I'll help you and Sylphy as much as I can as well. Although I am not exactly a Demon either, I was born there, so I consider it my home too."
"Thanks Pyuku, your help will be appreciated," Aquarina smiled, patting his head. "Now let's go have breakfast before we go check on Agua again!"
Aquarina ran downstairs, but was quickly stopped by her mother's grumpy face, while crossing her big, burly arms.
"Where do you think you're going with so much eagerness, young lady? Didn't I told you that you were grounded last night?"
"E-Eh? You were serious?!"
