Reincarnated With An SSS-Rank Talent In An Apocalyptic World-Chapter 84: Major Miller
Chapter 84: Major Miller
The camp wasn’t much to look at.
Military tents were systematically arranged everywhere, with dozens of war vehicles—including tanks—parked in one spot where military engineers worked tirelessly.
Apart from the soldiers patrolling the edges of the barrier, a sizable number were gathered around the thirty or so war vehicles, which were clearly the core of our forces.
The rest were in their tents, resting after today’s battle.
Following Kenza, we reached a much larger tent positioned at the center of the camp, guarded by four Ascendants.
She gestured for me to follow her in, but as we took a few steps forward, one of the Ascendants stopped Jake from entering.
"Go get some rest," I told Jake before walking into the tent—only for my eyes to widen at the scene inside.
At the center of the room stood a holographic table projecting the terrain and path leading to Lake Charles.
On the surrounding walls were holographic panels, each displaying images of different orc troops.
One showed the orc berserker—or at least, an orc that looked like him due to his long dreads and the twin war axes he carried.
Another panel showed a smaller orc, about six feet tall, dressed in long robes that covered his entire body. He wore a skull mask and leaned on a strange cane to stand upright.
I wasn’t sure why, but this image made me feel uncomfortable—far more than the berserker ever did.
"That’s an Orc Shaman... They’re as nasty as they look," a light, almost childish voice rang from the side.
I looked up to see who it was—and to my surprise, it was a young man in his mid-twenties, with unique snow-white hair that complemented his ice-blue eyes.
Unlike the other Ascendants I’d seen, he had a normal, lean muscular frame—like mine. If not for the blue, pulsating veins beneath his skin, I wouldn’t have guessed he was an Ascendant at all.
"Major Miller," he said, extending his hand for a shake. "I saw how badass you were today. It’s an honor meeting someone so skilled at such a young age."
My expression remained neutral as I stared into the man’s eyes—but deep down, something about him felt... off.
Regardless, I shook his hand, frowning as I felt how firm his grip was.
That strength meant only one thing:
His stats were above the ten-point threshold.
A Stage 2 Ascendant.
This man was stronger than me in my base form—on par with someone like Colonel Adin.
He was a dangerous beast... one that knew how to hide his claws until necessary.
"Adam Black," I responded dryly while letting my gaze move past him.
The main force was gathered here, so it was only natural they’d bring their best.
Outside of Kenza—whose talent I still hadn’t seen—there were two unfamiliar faces here now, making it four Limitless assigned to this unit.
One of them looked to be of Asian descent. A man in his late twenties or early thirties, with a goatee dyed yellow and long hair tied into a ponytail.
Unlike most Asians I’d seen, he had a monstrous build—so large I would’ve sworn he was on steroids.
Even Blade, who had a strength-type ability, wasn’t this huge.
’The Asian Hulk.’
That was the first nickname that came to mind, though his name tag read boldly:
Sergeant Deacon Yurei.
Standing on the other side of the table was a woman with a gothic vibe.
I wasn’t sure if her extremely pale skin was makeup or if she was actually that pale. Her waist-length hair fell over her face, making it nearly impossible to see her expression—or even her name tag.
She was clearly the odd one out in the group.
Honestly, I didn’t feel like getting to know her.
Too weird.
Turns out Kenza is the only normal one in the group.
"Ouu! You really got messed up!" Miller’s amused voice stole my attention again as I felt his hand touch the exposed part of my belly—right where the berserker had cut me.
Instinctively, I slapped his hand away and jumped back, putting distance between us.
From the side, the Asian Hulk and the goth girl burst into laughter.
Miller raised both hands with an apologetic smile that didn’t seem genuine.
"I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist," he said, waving his hands in surrender. "I’m just curious since your second ability is not much different from an orc’s Berserk mode."
Buzz!
My eyes narrowed at those words, though I kept a calm face.
No one had ever noticed that similarity—yet this man saw it after one fight?
"Not that it matters, since you’re on our side," Miller added with a wink before walking away.
He moved to the far end of the table while I approached and stood beside Kenza—who had proven to be the only sane one in this squad.
She gave me a quick, apologetic glance before returning her attention to the holographic map.
Pa!
Miller clapped his hands together to get our attention. A mischievous smile bloomed across his face like a child about to reveal some dark secret to his gang of troublemakers.
"Before we talk about our next moves," Miller began, "we need to understand the kind of enemy we’re dealing with."
I nodded in agreement. That much made sense.
"After my friend here..." Miller pointed at me, drawing everyone’s gaze. "...and his merry band saved three thousand lives in Louisiana, I had the privilege of interrogating Miss Pamela. And what I learned about the enemy is quite intriguing."
Pamela?
My eyes widened slightly as memories from that night came rushing back.
Only now did I recall—she and Viktor had taken the initiative to attack the orc champion in a desperate attempt to hold him off while civilians evacuated.
They failed, and the command center was destroyed.
What did she know that I didn’t?
"What did you find out?" Sergeant Deacon asked in a polite but impatient tone.
Miller didn’t mind.
"The orc champion leading the army kept mentioning a ’lord’—someone who taught them advanced strategy and human language. He mentioned this person repeatedly, with reverence."
Buzz!
I swallowed hard as the room’s atmosphere shifted.
Everyone looked shocked—except me.
And Miller noticed.
"You knew?" he asked, and all eyes turned toward me.
I simply shrugged off their suspicion.
"Earlier today, the orc berserker I killed spoke our language," I said calmly, rubbing my chin as I adopted a thoughtful look. "So I already suspected there might be a human among them." freёwebnoѵel.com
I paused, then added, "What I didn’t expect was that the human would be high-ranked."
A lie.
Miller’s smile widened, pleased by the logic.
"So it’s safe to say... a human is the one leading this orc horde," he concluded. "And a Limitless at that."
Buzz!
Another wave of shock rippled through the room—cold frowns, clenched fists, and sharp glares.
Kenza, Deacon, and the goth girl clearly didn’t like this direction, especially with no solid evidence.
The relationship between Limitless and humans wasn’t great to begin with, and this kind of theory would only make it worse.
"I agree," I said.
Now, even Miller seemed taken aback.
The others looked at me with disbelief and irritation.
"The orcs value strength above all else," I began. "And we all know Ascendants aren’t powerful enough to force an orc tribe into submission. Only a powerful Limitless could do that."
Buzz!
This time, it was Miller whose eyebrow twitched.
Still, he tried to maintain his friendly smile. The others seemed more thoughtful now—less angry, more surprised.
"However, I believe there are two possibilities here."
I raised my right hand and showed two fingers.
"One: the Limitless is from another country. Maybe China or Russia. They could be using a subdued orc tribe to destabilize our nation."
Everyone nodded. That made sense.
"And the second?" Miller asked, this time sounding impatient.
But I didn’t rush my response.
I let the room grow quiet. Then I lowered one finger—leaving only my index standing.
"The second possibility..." I said slowly, "...is that the invader is a human from another world—one who has already subdued all the races in his world and is now seeking to take over ours using his army."
Buzz!
This time, even Miller couldn’t hide his shock.
He clearly hadn’t considered the possibility that the human behind the orcs might not be from Earth.
But he didn’t refute me.
That meant he knew it was possible.
Everyone here knew that rifts led to new worlds.
And since Limitless existed here, it would be foolish to believe this world was the only one with humans—and certainly not the only one with powers.
