Rejected: A love story-Chapter 16: Forgotten agreement
Nathan’s phone rang as he held Fiona close, his executive assistant’s voice coming through the line. "Mr. Nathan, Mr. John, your lawyer, is waiting for you at the office. He says it’s urgent."
Nathan’s eyes locked onto Fiona’s, a hint of hesitation flashing across his face. He didn’t want to leave her alone, not after what had just happened. "I’ll be there soon," he said, his voice firm, and hung up.
He looked at Fiona. "You’re coming with me," he said, his voice gentle but firm.
Fiona frowned. "Another surprise again?" she asked.
Nathan smiled, a reassuring smile. "Just the office," he said, leading her to the car.
As they drove away, Fiona gazed out the window, her eyes fixed on the passing scenery.Duncan just stood there staring at the leaving car, he felt betrayed by his own daughter. Nathan couldn’t help but steal glances at her, his concern for her well-being still lingering. He reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch sending a spark of electricity through her.
Fiona’s eyes met his, and for a moment, they just looked at each other. Nathan felt his heart skip a beay, he quickly turned his attention back to the road, his grip on the steering wheel tightening.
Nathan pulled into the office parking lot, just that Fiona didn’t wait for him to open her door as usual, she came out on her own. Though he looked dissatisfied she still smiled at him. As they walked in, Employees greeted Nathan with respect as he walked in with Fiona by his side. The whispers and gossip started immediately, with some of the employees recognizing Fiona from her previous visit.
Nathan, sensing Fiona’s nervousness, gently took her hand, his warm fingers intertwining with hers. They walked into the elevator, the one reserved for him only, and the doors closed behind them. Fiona felt her heart racing as she looked up at Nathan. Nathan, his eyes locked onto hers, smiled, "Now I make you blush," he whispered, in his low husky voice.
Fiona’s face flushed, and she looked away, trying to hide her embarrassment. Nathan simply chuckled.
The elevator door opened with a soft ding, and Nathan and Fiona walked out, his hand still holding hers. Alex, his executive assistant, greeted them with a professional smile. "Good afternoon, Mr. Nathan. Mr. John is waiting for you in your office."
Nathan nodded, his eyes never leaving Fiona’s face. "Thank you, Alex. Have Fiona wait for me in the boardroom. Make sure she’s comfortable. "
Alex nodded, his eyes fixed on to Fiona before returning to Nathan. "Of course, sir. Right this way, Miss Fiona."
Fiona nodded, her eyes locked onto Nathan’s, as Alex led her to the boardroom. Nathan watched her go, his eyes following her until she disappeared into the room.
Nathan walked into his office, Mr. John a lawyer in his fifties stood up immediately to greet him. "Good day, Mr. Keith. I apologize for the unannounced visit, sir."
Nathan nodded curtly, his expression unreadable. "You wanted to see me?"
Mr. John cleared his throat. "Yes sir, I’ve brought the agreement papers for your... arrangement. I apologize for the delay, there were some errors."
Nathan’s gaze narrowed slightly as he took the papers, a hint of surprise flickering across his face. "The agreement." He seemed to recall the details of their arrangement, his expression remaining neutral.
Nathan’s eyes scanned the document, his brow furrowed in concentration. He had forgotten about it and wasn’t sure it was necessary although he thought about how Fiona would react when she found out about the agreement.
Mr. John noticed Nathan’s hesitation. "Is everything alright, Mr. Keith?"
Nathan’s expression remained neutral. "It’s fine, Mr. John. I’ll review it and get back to you."
Mr. John nodded, gathering his things. "Very well, sir. I’ll await your confirmation."
After Mr. John left, Nathan sat at his desk, the papers still in his hand. He leaned back in his chair, thoughts of Fiona flooding his mind.
Nathan decided to take the papers home for safety reasons. He went to meet Fiona to take her home and met Alex with her, He briefed him about the meetings, projects, etc.
"Continue handling everything, Alex," Nathan instructed, his tone firm but brief.
Fiona noticed his cold aura, a stark contrast to his usual warm demeanor towards her. He gestured to her that they were leaving, and he left with her.
They got into the elevator, and Fiona noticed his aura was now more calm and friendly. He noticed her staring at him and asked, "What’s wrong?"
She shook her head nervously like a baby and looked away from him. Nathan only smiled.
