Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 104: She Wouldn’t Let Outsiders Benefit for Nothing
Professor Smith entered the operating room without a moment’s delay.
Jacob Jennings watched the operating room with deep concern, his heart filled with apprehension as he sat in a chair.
Annabelle Linton glanced at him and offered some reassurance. "Mr. Jennings, please don’t worry about your mother. My professor is the leading expert in this field. She’ll be all right."
Jacob Jennings’s gaze drifted back to the operating room, his voice heavy. "My father died in a car accident when I was very young. My mother was afraid a stepfather might mistreat us, so she never remarried. She raised all five of us brothers by herself and went through so much hardship. To think that just as she was about to finally enjoy a comfortable life, she has to suffer like this..."
Annabelle Linton gave a faint smile, only able to repeat, "Your mother will be fine."
Jacob Jennings’s eyes fell on Annabelle Linton’s injured hand, and he said guiltily, "Thank you, Miss Annabelle. Whether or not my mother makes it through this, I will help you. The Linton Group was left to you and Ryan by Master Linton. I was entrusted by him to give you my full support, yet I turned it into a transaction to get things done for you. I’m truly sorry..."
Annabelle Linton knew he was a dutiful son and a loyal man, so she treated him with respect. "Mr. Jennings, there’s no need for that. I’m a doctor; saving people is my duty. I asked my professor to come here simply to save a life. In our eyes, all patients are the same. You don’t have to feel indebted.
As for the Linton Group matter, I’m incredibly grateful for your help."
"Miss Annabelle, I will absolutely do everything in my power."
Annabelle Linton nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Jennings."
Jacob Jennings nodded, his eyes fixed on the operating room doors, not blinking, as if afraid he might miss something.
Annabelle Linton pressed her lips together, a pang of bitterness in her heart.
’How wonderful it would be if humanity were free from the cycle of aging, sickness, and death.’
’Then there would be no need for doctors like us.’
Although Annabelle Linton was a doctor, she didn’t actually like her profession.
She didn’t feel a sense of pride in being able to save people; instead, she found the profession cold and detached.
She hated the numb version of herself who had to face a family’s heart-wrenching grief after a patient died in surgery, only to state the time of death with cold detachment.
And yet, she had chosen this profession for Leona Grant.
Three hours later, the surgery was complete.
Jacob Jennings rushed forward to ask about the outcome. Professor Smith told him the surgery had been a great success.
Seeing how happy Jacob Jennings was, Annabelle Linton couldn’t help but smile as well.
’In life, as long as you have your health, everything will be okay.’
Annabelle Linton offered to take Professor Smith out for a meal, but he said he had urgent matters to attend to and needed to head back. So, Annabelle took him to the airport instead.
Back at her apartment, Annabelle planned to rest for a bit and change her clothes. She had to meet Carla King that evening.
There were only three days left. If she didn’t seize this chance, they wouldn’t get a single cent from the Linton Group acquisition.
She had no intention of letting outsiders walk away with the money for free.
Annabelle Linton had just gotten home when she noticed an extra pair of shoes on the rack. Puzzled, she looked up and saw Ashley Grant sitting on the sofa with her feet propped up on the coffee table, watching TV.
"You’re back. I heated up some food for you in the microwave. Go get it," she said without looking away from the screen, fiddling with the remote.
Only then did Annabelle remember giving Ashley Grant a key the day before.
Having someone at home waiting for her to come back for a meal sent a wave of warmth through Annabelle’s heart.
"Thanks. It really is different having such a domestic goddess at home. I was just thinking about skipping dinner," Annabelle said as she dropped her bag, swapped her shoes, and walked into the living room.
"Skipping dinner? Are you saying I was being nosy?" Ashley Grant shot her a cool look.
