Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 117: Ensure Her Safety
"Well, since they assaulted someone, we can’t just let this go. As of today, I never want to see the King Group again." Leona Grant said indifferently while reviewing his documents, as if speaking of a trivial matter.
Chase froze for a moment. After some thought, he decided to say, "Mrs. King and her daughter seem to be friends with your wife. Yesterday, they dined at The Borealis Hotel for two hours, after which the incident with Wendy King occurred. According to our investigation, your wife and Mrs. King had no prior acquaintance, yet everything that happened yesterday seems to be connected to her. Should we call her before making a final decision?"
"Annabelle Linton arranged this?" Leona Grant stopped. "What was her objective?"
"Your wife arranged it. We couldn’t find out why. It seems only she and Mrs. King know the reason," Chase answered.
Leona Grant pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration, his expression darkening.
’Did Annabelle Linton arrange all of this by herself?’
’Why on earth would Annabelle Linton do this?’
’Is there something going on that I don’t know about?’
Countless questions flooded his mind. Leona Grant frowned and ordered in a low voice, "Find a way to suppress this matter. Don’t let anyone else find out. Continue investigating Annabelle Linton’s objective for doing all this. Also, ensure her safety."
’What am I supposed to do? I understand her less and less...’
Chase answered a beat later, "...Yes."
Leona Grant knew that since Annabelle Linton hadn’t come to him for help, he had no reason to get involved in her affairs.
But he still couldn’t bring himself to ignore her.
He subconsciously felt that he was doing this to compensate her. After all, without her, he might not be alive today.
But Leona Grant had forgotten what he’d once told Annabelle Linton: "Even if you were to die for me, I wouldn’t feel the slightest guilt, nor would I be even remotely moved. You’d best not get your hopes up and humiliate yourself."
After Chase left, Leona Grant was on edge.
This unease lasted until the end of the workday.
By the time Xylas Shepherd came to find him, night had completely fallen.
When he arrived at the office, he found Leona standing before the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing indifferently at the glittering cityscape, lost in thought.
Xylas Shepherd walked over and asked hesitantly, "What are you looking at?"
Leona Grant turned around and asked coolly, "What brings you here?"
"..." ’He really forgot.’
Xylas Shepherd frowned. Seeing that Leona had clearly forgotten, he said with a sigh of resignation, "We were supposed to have dinner tonight, but you didn’t show up, so I came to check on you."
Leona Grant nodded, picked up his suit jacket without a hint of apology, and walked out. "Let’s go."
Watching him stride out of the room, Xylas Shepherd suddenly felt a wave of relief.
’It’s a good thing I called Chase and made the trip over here,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, I have no doubt this thoughtless man would have kept me waiting until dawn.’
Xylas Shepherd resignedly followed.
Throughout the meal, Leona Grant was clearly distracted.
Xylas Shepherd asked him what was wrong, but he said it was nothing.
After dinner, they left the restaurant without lingering.
Just as they reached the door, they saw a little girl, about five years old, standing by the side of the road. Not far away, a truck was barreling straight toward her, on the verge of impact.
At that very moment, a figure in white rushed over, sweeping the girl into their arms and dodging to the side of the road in one swift motion.
The driver stopped immediately to check if an accident had happened.
