Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 158: You Think I Don’t Dare to Kill You?
The bodyguards gave chase.
Ashley Grant looked up at Ryan Linton, her eyes meeting his deep gaze. "Darling, don’t forget to come find me!" she yelled.
With that, she threw down a few smoke bombs and vanished from the open space.
By the time the smoke cleared and the bodyguards could see again, there was no trace of Ashley Grant left.
Ryan Linton’s gaze, calm and unfazed, swept over the spot where Ashley Grant had vanished. He rested a hand on the windowsill, his face impassive, exuding a dark and ambiguous aura.
His cool gaze drifted down to the business card under his fingertips. A handsome, bewitching smirk played on his thin lips. "Ashley Grant..."
...
"Holy crap, Ashley, you’re really something. You actually breached SEVEN’s defense system. Looks like your ’daddy’ here underestimated you."
"That’s nothing. If I wanted to, I could get my hands on a country’s state secrets, stir up some economic turmoil, create a little political tension... none of it would be a problem."
"...I’m a major in the military, you know. Could you at least try not to say things like that in front of me?"
"To be honest, the only reason I became a hacker was to find him faster..."
Ashley Grant and Miles Morton arrived at the beach.
Ashley gazed out at the endless ocean, her heart swelling with emotion. "Miles, you know what? I finally found him..."
"Who?"
"The boy who saved me when I was twelve."
Ashley took a sip of her drink, a bitter smile touching her lips. "I’ve been looking for him for five years. We just ran into each other. If the situation hadn’t been so critical, we probably would have had our reunion right then and there."
Miles Morton’s expression darkened for a moment, a shadow flashing in his eyes. Then, just as quickly, he smiled and patted Ashley’s head. "So it was a blessing in disguise, then?
But... have you considered that he might not remember you? Or that he might already have someone he likes?"
"I’m amazing. Why would he forget me? Why would he like someone else?" Ashley shot him a displeased look.
"So full of yourself..."
Miles Morton affectionately stroked Ashley’s hair, his gaze softening. "Our Ashley is so wonderful. He’ll definitely like you. And if he doesn’t treat you right, you still have me, okay?"
"So cheesy. And so dramatic," Ashley muttered, pouting.
"Do you understand?" Miles Morton asked insistently.
"I get it, I get it. Jeez."
...
Two weeks after Annabelle Linton started working overtime and not coming home, Patrick Grant was discharged from the hospital.
Annabelle still ran into the one person she wanted to see the least.
Leona Grant.
The Grant family had already hinted, both directly and indirectly, that regardless of the true state of their relationship, they were not, under any circumstances, to upset their grandfather at such a critical time.
Annabelle Linton stood before the hospital entrance, remembering the promise she had made to his grandfather. Her heart felt like a sky shrouded in dark clouds—all gloom, without a single ray of light.
She squeezed her eyes shut in anguish and let out a long sigh.
’How much longer do I have to keep living like this?’
The sound of a car horn blared from a distance. By the time Annabelle turned her head toward the sound, the car was rocketing toward her as if in a hundred-meter dash!
Annabelle watched the approaching car, her expression blank. ’Maybe it would be better to just die,’ she thought.
Leona Grant screeched to a halt just inches from Annabelle.
He stared at her unflinching eyes and paused.
’So there really are people who aren’t afraid to die. I only meant to scare her. I never expected she’d actually be fearless.’
"Why didn’t you move?"
Annabelle’s gaze shifted from his, landing coolly on a nearby flowerbed. "If you really wanted me dead, I wouldn’t still be standing here."
Leona Grant sneered. "You think I don’t have the guts to kill you?"
