Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 39: Woman, Can You Tell Me Your Name?
The information he’d received described Annabelle Linton as a weak and incompetent girl, but after interacting with her today, he found it was quite the opposite.
’She kept her emotions hidden and was highly alert. Wary of strangers, she was proud and aloof, making it impossible to know what she was thinking. How could a person like that be incompetent?’
Chase Lynch narrowed his eyes, a glint flashing through them.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at Emberwood Gardens.
Annabelle Linton got out of the car with the gift. Just as her hand was about to close the door, she heard Chase Lynch say, "Can you tell me your name? I really like your personality. We should be friends."
Annabelle Linton paused, then said coolly, "I don’t see the need for that. There’s no such thing as a purely platonic friendship between a man and a woman. So let’s forget about being friends."
A sharp glint flashed in Chase Lynch’s eyes.
’He agreed with her on that.’
But the way she kept him at arm’s length still left him feeling a little hollow.
Asking for her name was a pretense, but he genuinely wanted to be her friend.
Initially, he had only approached her to make a casual pass. But after interacting with her, he discovered he truly liked her personality.
Annabelle Linton took five hundred from her wallet and placed it on the seat, saying sincerely, "Thank you for your help today. I know you don’t need the money, but I don’t like owing anyone anything."
Chase Lynch glanced at the money she had placed on the seat and said meaningfully, "I have a feeling we’ll meet again."
Life is full of chance encounters. Some people you may never meet in your entire life. For others, one meeting lasts a lifetime. It all comes down to one thing: fate.
Annabelle Linton looked up, tilting her head with a smile. Her long, soft, wavy black hair cascaded over her shoulders, making her look as delicate and beautiful as a figure from a painting. "And what occasion might that be?"
With that, she closed the car door and walked away.
Chase Lynch’s long, narrow eyes followed her retreating figure until she disappeared around the corner. Only then did his gaze drift unconsciously to the five hundred she had left behind.
’This is the first time anyone’s ever paid me for helping them. I should feel insulted, so why am I not even the least bit angry?’
As Chase Lynch leaned over to pick up the money, he suddenly spotted something in the corner of the seat.
He reached out and picked it up. It was a work ID.
On the ID, the woman wore a simple white shirt. She had bright eyes and pearly teeth, and her long black hair was woven into a braid that fell over her left shoulder. A faint smile graced her face, and her beautiful eyes were strikingly clear.
A captivating smile played on Chase Lynch’s lips as he put the work ID in his pocket. "Looks like we’ll be seeing each other again soon."
...
Annabelle Linton had just rounded the corner when she saw Leona Grant, smoking a cigarette and watching her with a sneer.
"Well, what a surprise. I was wondering why you didn’t want a ride with me. So, it’s because you already had a chauffeur. I really underestimated you, Annabelle Linton."
Annabelle Linton glanced at her watch, her expression unreadable. "Have Mom and Dad arrived yet?"
"They’ve been here for a while. What, were you expecting them to roll out the red carpet for you at the door?"
Annabelle Linton frowned. "Leona Grant, do you really need to talk to me like that? If I recall correctly, we’re getting divorced in a couple of days, aren’t we? Once we’re divorced, what will your parents have to do with me?"
His expression darkened. "At least we’re not divorced yet, so you should uphold your duty as a daughter-in-law!"
Annabelle Linton held up the gift she was carrying, raising an eyebrow with a deadpan expression. "Have I done anything inappropriate? In this family, everyone has been perfectly good to me—except for you. We’re getting divorced soon. Today is probably my last chance to spend time with everyone, and I will treat it seriously and do what is expected of me."
’Divorce! Divorce!’
