Chapter 50: Chapter 50: As If She Didn’t Know Him

Vivian Yates didn’t come today, but Annabelle remembered she would be here tomorrow.

But something was destined to happen tomorrow.

A cold glint flashed in Annabelle Linton’s eyes.

Earlier today, Vivian Yates had given an academic-themed gift, which made Ashley Grant lose her temper on the spot. Yet now, when Annabelle Linton offered her own reasoning, Ashley was listening intently. It was clear just how fond Ashley was of Annabelle.

Every parent wants their children to succeed, so Mr. and Mrs. Grant naturally nodded in approval. Their fondness for Annabelle grew even deeper.

"Mom, Dad, Grandpa, we’re home!" Ashley called out.

Annabelle Linton followed Ashley inside and said with a small smile, "We’re home."

"You’re home?" Mrs. Grant’s gaze fell on Annabelle, her eyes brimming with a mother-in-law’s approval. "You must be tired. Come, sit down and rest."

"Mom, we’re not tired," Annabelle Linton said with a smile, looking around. "Where’s Grandpa?"

"Oh, Grandpa went out to chat with his friends. He’ll be back in a bit."

Madam Chase stepped forward to take the bags from Annabelle, glancing inside. "Young Madam bought seafood?" she asked, puzzled. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Annabelle gave a gentle smile. "Ashley loves seafood, so I’m going to cook myself today. We’ll make dinner together later."

"Young Madam, if the Young Miss wants seafood, we can handle it. It’s no trouble at all. You shouldn’t have to tire yourself out."

’I’ve already made up my mind. This will be the last meal I cook for the family. It’s a way to find closure for our relationship over the years. I don’t want to have any regrets.’

"It’s no problem, Madam Chase. I’ll just go change first, and then we can cook together."

With that, Annabelle Linton headed upstairs.

Just as she reached the top of the stairs, she ran into Leona Grant, who was stepping out of the study.

She and Ashley had bought a lot of clothes today, and she was currently wearing one of her new purchases.

It was a light blue dress. She was very beautiful, so bright colors naturally suited her.

’So he’s not off with Vivian Yates. What a rare sight.’

Annabelle’s gaze didn’t linger on him for even a second. She entered her room with a cold indifference, as if he were a complete stranger.

Before, even when she was disgusted with him, she at least had some sort of expression. Now, she just ignored him completely, as if they were total strangers.

Leona Grant’s expression remained indifferent, but inwardly he felt an indescribable surge of irritation.

He didn’t understand why she was so cold toward him. Even after her explanation, he still couldn’t comprehend it.

Annabelle changed her clothes and quickly came back downstairs.

She had tied her hair up into a loose bun, looking both relaxed and capable.

When she walked into the kitchen, Madam Chase and the other staff were about to start preparing dinner.

Seeing Annabelle enter, the staff looked at her awkwardly. "Young Madam, please let us handle dinner. If the Young Miss wants seafood, we’ll be sure to prepare it perfectly. You should go and rest."

"Don’t worry about me, Madam Chase. I used to cook all the time; this is hardly my first time in the kitchen. Ashley wants seafood made by me, and I promised her." Annabelle rolled up her sleeves and, moving with practiced ease, found an apron and tied it on.

Mrs. Grant came in and, overhearing them, also tried to reason with her. "Annabelle, you and Ashley were out all day. You must be exhausted. Why don’t you go rest? Madam Chase and the others are in the kitchen. Ashley is just a child; you don’t need to indulge her."

"That’s right, sister-in-law. There’ll be plenty of chances in the future. There’s no rush," Ashley said meaningfully, standing in the doorway.

’Annabelle could hear the hidden meaning in Ashley’s words. She knew her sister-in-law couldn’t bear for her to leave. But in just a couple of days, she and Leona Grant would be divorced.’
