188 Money-Grubber

“These are the treasures and currency that the bids accumulated throughout the auction. The ledgers are placed by the side, and you can look through them and the storage treasures to ensure that everything is as expected.”

The manager was very polite as he handed over a tray with both hands. On the tray was a paper scroll containing all the documentation for bidders and the final cost of each item, and on the side was a small pouch made from midnight-blue silk. From the look of the pouch alone, one could see that it was an extremely luxurious storage treasure, and that the auction house had not spared any cost to show their gratefulness.

“Thank you.” It was Jiang Yao who accepted the items and sat down on the couch as he began to ensure that the items and the ledger matched.

Usually, he would not make a big deal out of such an affair. It could be considered belittling the auction house and even showing a bit of disrespect for not trusting them, but the manager had asked them to do this, so he would naturally comply.

It was easy to guess that the auction house itself was highly worried about what consequences they could suffer from if they did not finish the administrative tasks perfectly.

Fortunately, the numbers were easily verifiable, and the treasures and spirit crystals within the storage treasure were all in the right amount.

“It looks very good. Thank you for your cooperation with our auction, it has been a pleasure to work with you.”

Although Jiang Yao was known throughout the entire continent to be ruthless and cold, he had been raised in the Demon Palace, and he was, usually, polite.

The auction house had done as they promised, and the auction had finished successfully, so to him, it was only natural that he verbalized his gratitude for their hard work.

.....

Such down-to-earth behavior caused the manager to be surprised and also flattered, but he swiftly bowed as he happily thanked them again and again.

“Our auction house has gained a great amount of publicity due to your auction, not to mention that there has been a few unavoidable fees as well, which has helped us financially. We cannot explain how much this means to us, so we hope that you are satisfied with our work.”

The manager led the two distinguished guests out the backdoor, and he personally bid them farewell in a humble manner.

He had not brought others with him, as he could always excuse his attention with Jiang Yao having purchased something expensive from their store when only he was present, but if he had gathered more leaders, the display of might was simply too much, and anyone with a bit of brain would be able to connect the two matters.

His actions were well thought out and showed attention to detail. Although Jiang Yao was usually very aloof, he still appreciated such talents and responded with a polite nod and a few words of praise, before he took the still stunned Luo Xiao by his hand and led him home.

Luo Xiao was still stunned by the sight that greeted him after looking into the storage treasure. Initially, Luo Xiao had merely tossed a few treasures from the cave to the auction house to see the results and for fun, but now that he had the actual payment in his hands, he was shocked by how much wealth these few items had managed to accumulate.

Although he was not actually willing to do so, he could not help but wonder how much he would be able to earn if he had sent all the things up for auction.

However, after considering it closely, he realized that it might not be possible. The reason for these things to have reaped such rewards, was that the items were known to be extinct and not possible to get elsewhere. Their price showed how rare the items were.

After realizing that he would definitely miss out if he sold these items, his heart finally settled down. The treasures were also priceless and their spiritual energy was much more potent than that of the current herbs and treasures, so he would not benefit, even if he decided to sell them all.

By the time that Luo Xiao regained his senses, he found that Jiang Yao had already brought him home to their palace.

“Did you finish counting the wealth, you little money grubber?”

Although Jiang Yao’s words sounded mocking, the tone of voice and the look in his eyes were so full of adoration and pampering, that Luo Xiao did not get unhappy, although his face flushed in embarrassment from his greedy actions.

However, this was who he truly was, and he had never earned such wealth before, so he felt a great sense of accomplishment.

For him to earn his own money felt amazing, and he finally understood why Jiang Yao always wanted him to get the best.

Now that he had his own wealth and treasures, the first thing that came to mind was to buy something for Jiang Yao. However, what to buy was a great mystery, as the Seventh Demon Prince already had anything he could want and need. fre𝙚𝓌𝒆𝚋noѵel.c𝚘m

After finishing a whole day full of excitement, Luo Xiao felt his mind somewhat affected. Although he had begun cultivating, he was not at a stage where his body had turned immortal, and he knew that he needed to rest to restore his mind to the best condition.

As such, he put aside the idea of purchasing a gift for now, and lazily leaned against Jiang Yao, who quickly supported the younger man’s body, and carried him into his arms, as he gently moved towards their bedroom so that his lover could rest his mind.
