Return of the Mythic Bloodline-Chapter 411: Helping Hand
Taranis didn’t react to the injury on his shoulder and continued to press his sword against Adam.
Cracks spread across Adam’s steel blade, running along its entire length, and just as it was about to shatter, Taranis was bombarded by numerous attacks from behind.
The soldiers from the lower floor had arrived on the platform, assaulting Taranis from every direction.
Using his foot as a pivot, Taranis swung his sword in a circular motion, materializing a sharp golden arc along its path.
"Sword Aura: Lightning Slash!"
The circle of lightning spread outward in a blinding flash, cleaving the soldiers’ bodies in two. Blood, along with their internal organs, spilled from their upper halves, turning the platform crimson. For a moment, the air was filled with agonized screams, but they soon fell silent as death claimed them.
However, the stage was quickly flooded by another horde of soldiers the moment the previous one fell. Soldiers from the upper floor rushed downward, while those already below engaged Taranis in close combat.
Losing an arm had a far greater impact on Taranis’s combat abilities than he had anticipated. His center of gravity had shifted, the force behind his swings had diminished, and the openings between his attacks had increased significantly.
But Taranis did not care in the slightest. Blinded by rage, his eyes were fixed on a single target. He ignored the swarm of soldiers around him as he focused solely on his sworn enemy, Adam, standing before him.
"Sword of the Thunderbane: Chapter One
Fang of the Thunder Wolf!"
"Sword of the Thunderbane: Chapter Two
Mystic Tiger Severance."
"Sword of the Thunderbane: Chapter Three
Qilin’s Judgement!"
In rapid succession, mythical beasts formed from golden lightning materialized along the path of Taranis’s blade, all of them charging toward Adam Solaris.
"Protect your Prince!" Adam ordered, his earlier smirk gone as desperation overtook him.
Before the lightning beasts could reach Adam, hundreds of soldiers appeared before him, forming a defensive wall.
The first Chapter of Thunderbane Swordsmanship was a single-target attack, where a lightning wolf sank its fangs into the opponent’s body. It vanished after claiming the life of the soldier at the front.
The second Chapter was a sweeping attack that formed a mystic tiger, unleashing four sharp lightning slashes from its claws, each one stronger than the standard Lightning Slash skill. The attack severed fifteen soldiers into multiple pieces before dissipating.
However, the third Chapter was a combination of a single-target and area-wide attack. It materialized a mythical Qilin that only stopped after striking its intended target. In its wake, lightning bolts erupted, striking down anyone who dared stand in its path.
The Qilin slew fifty soldiers before reaching Adam at the rear. The moment it touched his body, it detonated with a thunderous explosion, illuminating the darkness within the pillar with a blinding light and blasting away every soldier that stood between Taranis and Adam.
The moment the light vanished, a barrage of ballistic arrows ambushed Taranis from the upper floors.
Without even glancing at the spear-sized projectiles, and without moving his feet, Taranis evaded every single one with the slightest movements of his upper body.
"Don’t underestimate me, you mountain animal!" Adam roared, his sword thrusting toward Taranis’s eye.
In a split second, the lightning around Taranis’s body converged into his arm and eyes.
Everything became absurdly slow to him as he used the speed of the Blink skill to enhance both his vision and the movement of his arm.
Taranis released his grip on the sword and thrust his hand forward at lightning speed toward Adam’s gut.
"Lightning Bolt: Version: Galactic Punch!"
The strike shattered Adam’s chestplate and blasted him into the sky.
In the same instant, Taranis pulled his hand back and caught the sword again, the blade having barely shifted from its position due to the sheer speed of his movement.
"P-prince!!" the soldiers shouted, their eyes wide and jaws slack.
Adam was no longer visible from the platform, such was the distance he had been hurled into the sky.
However, it was a grave mistake. Now that the prince was no longer on the platform, the soldiers had no reason to hold back.
Hundreds of cannons and ballistic arrows fired from the upper floors. They were not aimed at Taranis. They knew he could evade them with his unnatural speed.
Their target was the platform itself.
One explosion followed another under the relentless bombardment. The platform crumbled and collapsed, falling hundreds of feet.
"Did we get him?" one of the soldiers murmured as dust and debris clouded their vision.
Once the dust settled, nothing remained of the platform.
Far below, a massive mound of debris had formed.
After a moment, golden lightning flickered within the rubble, blasting it apart.
Taranis emerged from beneath, standing tall. Blood trickled from his temple, running down his face before dripping from his chin onto the ground.
His upper body was bare, revealing the grotesque scars etched across his skin. His terrifyingly sharp eyes, like his blade, glowed with a brilliant golden light.
"Th-that monster is still alive," one of the soldiers gasped, trembling to his core.
"Is it even possible to kill him?" another added. "I heard he is immortal. Didn’t he return alive after the massacre at Sentinel Line?"
"Stop spouting nonsense!" Adam shouted, clutching his gut where his skin had turned purple from the impact. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
He stood on the fifteenth of the hundred floors of the pillar.
"Th-that bastard is not at the Eternal Sage Realm, so he cannot fly," Adam revealed, coughing up blood between his words.
A few soldiers rushed toward him in concern, but he stopped them and continued, "Bombard that bastard with cannons and arrows. He is trapped like a cornered animal."
As the soldiers began loading the cannons and ballistas, Taranis, standing below, murmured in a low voice,
"Vivi, activate First Mythic Trans—"
His words halted mid-sentence as he sensed something disturbingly strange.
---
It had only been two minutes since Vyaghra left and Taranis began his massacre inside the pillar.
"Wait," Voltrex said as he and Vyaghra arrived on a neighboring pillar from the central one.
"You are awake?" Vyaghra asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
"You must be my son’s companion," Voltrex said, stepping away from Vyaghra, who had been supporting him by the shoulders. "Thank you for coming to my aid."
"I only came because your son asked me to," Vyaghra replied plainly before adding, "You seem awfully calm for someone who has suffered such atrocities, and whose son is fighting a life-and-death battle against an army of half a million."
"Oh, do I appear calm to you?" Voltrex chuckled as he walked to the edge of the cliff. "The truth is... I have never been more furious."
The pressure around his body shifted, and the wind began to surge violently as he continued, "Before my dantian was destroyed, I separated a small portion of my Soulforce and nurtured it with my Killing Intent for eighteen years."
Vyaghra’s eyes widened upon hearing the term Killing Intent instead of Murderous Intent.
"Are you going to release—"
"Haha, I suppose I should lend my son a helping hand."
