Return to the City: The Strongest King-Chapter 1792 - 1722: Gods at War (Part 2)
A day's search ended fruitlessly.
Feng Jian and the warriors were all low in spirit; they had already sacrificed nearly half of their warriors for a small U disk.
To avoid repeating last night's mistakes, the camp's location was chosen more cautiously this night, beside a river.
Song Xiaodong no longer hid in the shadows.
The African Wizards and Japanese Ninjas, having suffered at Song Xiaodong's hands, dared not attack again.
Now, those who dared to come would render Song Xiaodong's ambush useless.
Song Xiaodong and Sun Yiyi sat among the warriors, meditating, while Dragon Three and Dragon Six guarded both sides.
In the early morning, a young warrior stepped out of the camp to relieve himself and suddenly stepped on something hard and elongated. Picking it up, he found it was a U disk.
Truly, the heavens assist us in China; there were five or six teams searching this area, yet we were destined to find it.
"I found it, I found it!" The young warrior ran back to the camp with the U disk.
Upon hearing the shout, Song Xiaodong darted out like an arrow, arriving next to the young warrior in an instant, grabbing the U disk tightly in his palm.
When Song Xiaodong released his hand, the U disk was already crushed into pieces.
"Light a fire, burn it!" Song Xiaodong commanded. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Although the U disk was already destroyed by Song Xiaodong, he still wanted it burned.
Soon the fire blazed up, and Song Xiaodong threw the broken pieces of the U disk into the fire, burning it completely.
"Mission complete, retreat through the night!" Song Xiaodong instructed.
The group cheered with excitement, leaving the traces of their camp behind, headed directly towards the North Sudan border.
Nobody wanted to spend another night in the dark woods, surrounded by multiple armed forces.
Song Xiaodong had an excellent sense of direction, leading the team swiftly toward the border.
However, the American experts were already present.
"Did you hear that?" asked Sun Yiyi suddenly as the group moved quickly.
"I heard it. It seems there's another battle ahead." Song Xiaodong pressed his lips tightly.
In the forest, a vague whisper emanated from all directions, resembling incantations that captivated one's mind.
Song Xiaodong knew what was being recited.
"The Devil's Bible."
Originally meaning "The Great Book of Secrets," it is the largest existing medieval manuscript, written by monks at the Podlazice Monastery in the 13th century Czech Republic. At the bottom of the book is a massive depiction of Satan the Devil, and its contents include the Bible, medical prescriptions, spells, common knowledge, superstitions, and more—a true encyclopedia of mysticism.
It was created by a monk who was to be executed; to gain reprieve, he promised to create the glory of the monastery in one night. This impossible task forced the monk to sign a pact with the Devil, Satan, acting as Satan's emissary to pen this book.
Throughout centuries of warfare and fire, "The Devil's Bible" remained unscathed, passed down to this day.
On page 577, an entire page is dedicated to a portrait of the Devil, Satan, with the surrounding pages severely blackened.
The voice reciting texts from the forest was the ancient Latin version of the "Devil's Bible," and precisely from the pages before the Satanic portrait.
"Stay close, don't let your mind wander. Think about how you will soon change post, and be able to go home to your wives." Song Xiaodong said.
Everyone heard the devilish whispers from the forest, approaching from afar, reaching ears as if whispering right beside them, unsettling the mind. Despite Song Xiaodong's words, there was little response.
Song Xiaodong led the way and found something glowing green in the forest.
Song Xiaodong only wanted to lead these people back to the border, and seeing something blocking the path ahead, planned to take a detour. After walking a bit, he found the green glow blocking the way again.
"Stay here and rest, Yiyi and I will go ahead to see what's happening." Song Xiaodong said to Feng Jian, leaving Dragon Three and Dragon Six there.
In battles among experts, numbers are not necessarily an advantage.
Song Xiaodong and Sun Yiyi carefully approached the glowing green light in the forest.
The light was obscured by dense foliage, making the outline unclear, only eerie green rays shone through the gaps in the bushes.
The two stepped closer and finally discerned the situation.
The glow emanated from a person.
Upon closer examination, the person stood nearly two meters tall, wearing a black hooded Taoist robe, holding a staff in his left hand and a thick book in his right. On his back was a giant metal Cross, with a Crusader's Holy Sword and a water bottle at his waist.
The black hooded Taoist robe was pitch black, yet the green light emitted from his body radiated through the fabric.
At present, the person, eyes tightly closed, pressed the book in his right hand tightly against his chest, muttering under his breath.
It was a monk from the Turkish Monastery.
Song Xiaodong and Sun Yiyi approached closer to get a clearer look at his face.
The bald head, face, hands, chest, back, and legs of this person were covered with engraved scriptures.
It was these densely packed scriptures that emitted a faint green glow in the darkness.
The monk slowly opened his eyes after finishing reciting the lengthy scriptures.
His eyes, too, emitted a green glow outward.
Song Xiaodong had seen such eyes before, in the tropical rainforests of North America, where man-eating anacondas, lurking in the dark, stared at their prey with eyes radiating green light.
Song Xiaodong used True Qi to probe; this person was not a Martial Artist and had no True Qi but exuded strong psychic power or the power of faith.
Song Xiaodong glanced at Sun Yiyi, and both silently leaped into the air, flying towards the monk.
