Chapter 60: Back to getting into chaos

A few days have passed.

Valerie, along with Damian and Daniel, has returned to Carson City, Nevada, but they had to part ways at the airport and start a secret relationship. She immediately got into Adriana’s car, which was waiting for her, while Sandy would return to his apartment.

"How was it there? You almost didn’t tell me about what you did there!" Adriana asked, focusing on driving.

"Everything went smoothly, and maybe I’ll be busy after this," Valerie replied, occasionally glancing at Daniel sleeping in the adjacent seat, using a toddler car seat. ’But I also had fun with Damian there. I want to say this, but maybe you’ll laugh at me... You’ll say that I can’t hold back my feelings, even though it’s too late to accept him back because things are already messed up,’ she thought anxiously.

"Damian’s father met me," Adriana said.

Valerie furrowed her brow, instantly imagining what Darius did to Adriana. She became afraid that if Darius found out that Damian went with her, it would be a new problem for them, especially since they had just reconciled.

"What did he say to you? Why did he meet you?"

"He just wanted to know your whereabouts, but I didn’t tell him. I just said you went to Arizona, to your old place, and I said I didn’t know the address," Adriana said casually, looking cool with her sunglasses and black outfit with open sleeves. "He seemed very upset because he didn’t get what he wanted about you. he threatened me..."

"Threatened you?" Valerie looked so worried.

"I don’t know if I can call it a threat or not, but it felt like a warning. He said if I couldn’t prevent you from getting back with Damian, then he would do something bad to our family... He said he didn’t want to deal with our family again, he didn’t want to seem to have a relationship with our family again, and he said he was embarrassed enough by the cancellation of your wedding with Damian that day... He acted like a victim, someone who was very wrong. Of course, that’s wrong because the jerk is his son!" Adriana explained firmly, annoyed recalling the chaos of the wedding day. "He thinks only his family has many problems because of the failed marriage. Our family is also troubled by it... We get mocked by the neighbors, and then we constantly worry about you... I can’t keep explaining because remembering that chaos will just make me very emotional..."

Valerie fell silent, suddenly overwhelmed by guilt for her decision to leave.

"I don’t want to be angry with you again and blame you," Adriana said, glancing at the mirror above, seeing Valerie’s reflection looking sad. "It’s all Damian’s fault, and he should try to fix everything. He needs to make his father understand that you’re not entirely at fault. I don’t want his father to keep hating you and then spreading bad things about you... you’re going to be a famous writer... I don’t want your reputation ruined by him."

"I know," whispered Valerie, then took a deep breath and grabbed her phone from her black jacket.

She immediately sent a message to Damian.

Your father came to see Adriana, threatening again. Don’t meet me again... I don’t want to ruin my family just to be with you.

Successfully sending the message, Valerie switched to her gallery and looked at the photos of her time with Damian and Daniel during their time in Korea. The shadows of happiness there haunted her, creating a feeling of reluctance if it all just became memories without being able to repeat them.

’It’s all getting harder... What should I do? Should I let you go and let you be with Karina? I don’t think I can... I can’t!’

She couldn’t hold back her sadness, her breath felt tight, her heart was pounding, her head was spinning, and tears fell easily, but she didn’t want Adriana to see her cry, so she turned to the window.

"Just follow your heart... Don’t mind Darius. He’s just an old man good at threatening, he won’t do anything," Adriana said as if knowing Valerie was crying. "There’s nothing you need to worry about..."

"But what if he does something to our family?" Valerie asked.

"He won’t do that, it’s like he’s committing suicide..."

Valerie wiped her tears, thinking what Adriana said was true. It’s unlikely that Darius would commit a crime just to keep her away from Damian because if it became public or known by the police, his reputation would be ruined.

"Just stay quiet and act like you don’t care about his threats. Do whatever you’ve been doing... Consider yourself free," Adriana said again, then turned her car into a gas station. "Wait a moment, I need to refuel."

Valerie just stayed silent, letting Adriana go. She looked at her phone again, and there was already a new message from Damian.

Alright, Don’t be afraid, I love you. I’ll do my best for us.

Valerie immediately replied to that message.

You don’t need to do anything... I don’t think it will change anything. I will never be able to be with you..

She sent the message and immediately turned off her phone, as if not wanting to hear or read Damian’s response anymore.

Now her mind was in chaos, filled with the shadows of her family possibly getting into trouble because of Darius.

’Oh God, what should I do now? Should I pretend to have another partner so he thinks I don’t want to be with Damian anymore? Should I deceive him like that? But what if it only adds problems like what happened to Samuel and me before?’

...

In his car, Damian was silent, staring out, clenching his jaw as if holding back emotions, even holding his phone tightly.

"Mr. McCourtney deployed some people to look for you while you were gone," the driver said.

"He thinks I’m a kid he always has to watch!" Damian replied curtly.

"Maybe he’s in trouble and needs you to help him."

"Teddy..." Damian sighed heavily. "He’s the one causing his problems, then dragging me into it, claiming it’s my duty as a son to deal with it. He wants to rob me of my freedom!"

The driver named Teddy just stayed silent, continuing to drive.

"He deliberately brought Karina into my life when he knew I and Valerie were in chaos. He deliberately made Valerie not want to be with me, he plunged me into despair, and then showed Karina to me... I realize this is all his conspiracy... His foul play!" Damian exclaimed angrily, imagining his father’s face, imagining Valerie’s frightened tears. "I thought I didn’t need to pretend to end this engagement. I’ll end it today too... I can’t linger in this situation. I want to be with Valerie because whether with me or without me, my father keeps disturbing her life. I better stay with her, protect her...!"

"But, sir..."

Damian immediately looked at his phone and called Karina.
