Deep down, Cassius knew that he was a cold person. When he was an ordinary human, he had to make compromises to maintain his fragile relationships. But once he gained strength, he had revealed his true self. His cold nature had gradually ripped off the mask of pretense.
Yet, it was this solitary nature that ensured that anyone who entered Cassius's heart held significant weight. His teacher Lisa, his kind and gentle sister Li Chu, his familiar senior brothers, and the sect master were all people he deeply cared about.
Returning to the Wind Elephant Sect and annihilating all the Dead Bloods who had participated in the massacre was not just Li Wei's obsession but also something Cassius himself longed to do. He wanted to reunite every surviving member of the Wind Elephant Sect.
After all, he was Cassius of the Wind Elephant Sect.
His palm trembled slightly as he forced the vibrations into Lance’s body. The shards of life force slowly fused together, cycling through a self-repair process. It was on the verge of collapse, but it had been forcefully restored. Lance's body regained a semblance of life, and now looked like he was merely asleep. However, Cassius knew that resurrecting the dead was impossible.
All he had done was keep Lance's body from decaying, turning it into a lifeless but intact corpse. It had cost Cassius ten portions of life vibration energy. He thought this was the most accurate name for it, since it was not exactly energy, but rather a unique type of vibration.
These ten portions of life vibration energy were of little use to Cassius. Since he had enhanced the Decay-Rank vibration frequency to its limit, the only things that would benefit him now were the three portions of Undying-Rank life vibrations, so it wasn't a major loss.
According to the information he had just acquired, this temporary Dead Blood Nest still held several Decay-Rank and Undying-Rank Dead Bloods, and even an Indestructible-Rank one. That last one would be Dino, the vice president of the Blood Spirit Society.
The other Indestructible-Rank executives had already headed to Kura City for the Tulip Antique Exhibition. Only Dino had stayed behind with some of the Blood Spirit Society in East Sea City as backup, ready to respond as the situation unfolded.
"Indestructible-Rank life vibration energy..." Cassius thought for a moment, and then hoisted his senior brother's body onto his shoulder. He had every intention of killing every member of the Blood Spirit Society in George's Poker Casino, but since Lance's body could be damaged in the chaos, he decided to find a safer, more secluded place to hide it.
He decided to move the killing grounds to the surface. After all, he had Feng Liusi and Saint Feinan, two expert combat artists, with him. If there was only one Indestructible-Rank Dead Blood overseeing this nest, things couldn't possibly escalate out of control. The outcome had been decided the moment they arrived.
Cassius stomped down, causing the floor to splinter beneath him. A moment later, a black shadow shot across the wide casino like a gust of wind, stirring up a bloody vortex. He darted into the passageway and after a short while, emerged out of the winding underground tunnels, only to find himself in a cellar.
The Grimm District was a typical district in East Sea City. It was the most prosperous city in the Six Eastern Counties, so its booming economy allowed many underground industries to thrive. The area was filled with hidden passages and secret doors. Any exit could lead to various parts of the district, and Cassius now found himself in such a place.
He scanned his surroundings and immediately spotted a metal staircase leading up to a circular hatch. When he climbed up, he noticed that the hatch required a key to open. But, of course, Cassius didn't need a key. His index finger turned red and seemed incredibly sharp. He created an opening with a simple slice and swiftly exited the cellar.
It was a dimly lit study that was elegantly and carefully arranged. Hoisting his senior brother's body, Cassius was about to carry it to the window when a ruckus from the other side of the door caught Cassius's attention. He carefully laid his senior brother's body on a nearby chair.
"Enemy attack on our Blood Spirit Society! Those awakening from the Blood Nest, quickly drink the Water of Recovery before gathering in the main hall!"
Someone in the building was barking orders. Cassius's eyes flickered as he moved the chair with his senior brother into a dark corner. He quickly hid him behind some black curtains and opened the door with a soft click.
Someone immediately rushed toward him. Cassius didn't move, but the man stumbled back a few steps. He sported curly brown hair and freckles, was dressed casually, and radiated the aura of a Dead Blood.
The young man turned around and gave Cassius a dumbfounded look, still in the befuddled state of someone who had just awakened. His senses and thoughts were slow. "Let's go! Looks like we're under attack. Let's drink some Water of Recovery to restore our state."
He motioned for Cassius to hurry. Cassius remained silent, his face set in a cold, stiff expression, as he followed. He blended right in with the newly awakened Dead Bloods, and didn't raise any alarms. They didn’t encounter any other Dead Bloods on their way. It seemed most had already gathered in the hall, and this young man had simply awakened late.
The two soon arrived at a room that was dominated by a large pool that had mysterious symbols etched all around it. The surface of the pool gleamed with a deep black sheen. The dark pool contained a fluid that resembled human blood but lacked the distinct metallic scent of blood.
The young man hurried over and plunged his hand into the water. His arm seemed to absorb something, and the stiff, confused expression on his face eased, as his condition improved.
Suddenly, a voice from behind asked, "Brother, where is the gathering hall?"
"Oh, on the first floor, in the largest room on the right," the young man said. He was still absorbing the pool, so his groggy brain wasn't functioning well. When he turned to see that Cassius hadn't moved, he asked, a little confused, "Brother, hurry and drink the Water of Recovery."
Cassius nodded and walked slowly over. "I don't drink that stuff."
"Then what do you drink?" he asked.
"I drink this." A hand suddenly landed on the young man's head, and the powerful Golem's life magnetic field surged into him.
Ten seconds later, Cassius was swiftly walking down the corridor. He hadn't expected the Grimm District to house a dedicated team of Dead Bloods, and he certainly hadn't expected to stumble upon them through the underground passage. It saved him the trouble of searching for them.
He stood outside the open door of the hall and peered inside, where he saw seventy or eighty figures. Cassius belched quietly; he was somewhat full just looking at them.
Was he about to make himself immune to Dead Blood life vibrations all at once? Absorbing too much energy from the same type and level of dark creatures could indeed result in diminishing returns.
Whoosh...
A breeze blew into the hall from the outside. A Blood Spirit Society member standing near the door glimpsed a figure dart into the hall, swivel around, and shut the door behind them.
Click.
The sound of the door closing drew the attention of all the Blood Spirit Society members in the hall. They saw a tall, slender figure with blond hair, bathed in the warm glow of the lights, walking leisurely toward them.
He lifted his head, revealing a delicate, fair, and handsome face.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen..." His crimson eyes scanned the room as he smiled. "Ah, my apologies, I meant to say, monsters."
Three minutes later...
"Mo-monster! Don’t come any closer, ahhh!" A Dead Blood member, who was now missing a leg, frantically tried to crawl backward into a corner in sheer terror.
"What are you talking about? You're the real monsters. Don't slander me, kid," Cassius said as he let a trembling Dead Blood member slip out of his hands. Within moments, the trembling man lost all signs of life.
Cassius continued stepping over the bodies strewn across his path. The last remaining Dead Blood member backed into a corner with a loud thud, his mouth hanging open as if he had seen a demon. He was surrounded by the bodies of his comrades. All eighty Decay-Rank and six Undying-Rank Dead Bloods had perished, including the Dead Blood cores hidden within their shells.
And wading through the sea of broken, bloodied corpses was that monster.
Cassius radiated such intense killing intent from slaughtering so many dark creatures that it was almost tangible. He seemed like their natural predator. The man was consumed with an unbearable fear.
As Cassius drew closer, the man shook his head frantically. "No, no... Don't come closer, don't kill me! Ahhh!!!"
A horrific scream reverberated throughout the mansion, drowning out the chirping insects and croaking frogs of the night outside.
Cassius opened the hall door, but not before turning around. "Good night."
He closed the door and walked toward the study, thanking everyone for their warm hospitality in feeding him so well.
