Revenge After Rebirth: Fated To The Triplets I Hate-Chapter 29: You Are Going To Get Us Both In Trouble!!
Chapter 29: You Are Going To Get Us Both In Trouble!!
Iris’s POV
Darius’ words only made the courtyard erupt in a loud deafening roar of cheers as his words, commanding voice sliced through the festive clamor. I stood at the edge of the crowd, half-hidden, my heart sinking as if to feel sad that the alpha’s I once graved for would be mating with another. The thought of it only made my eyes wet. The mention of Liora’s name twisted something sharp in my chest, but I forced myself to stay still and not cry because of the triplets who had countlessly treated me like a scum bag. A part of me hate them with so much passion and for some strange reason, the other part of me never stopped loving them.
Shortly, Alpha Darius raised a hand, silencing the crowd with a single gesture. His piercing and commanding eyes scanned the pack, commanding absolute attention and then he continued. "This is a sacred moment for Black Bane," he continued, his voice resonating. "We must prepare for this day with reverence. Do nothing to offend the Moon Goddess, for her blessings are upon us. Black Bane is a pack chosen, remembered by the Moon Goddess herself, for it is in our generation, in our pack, that the Mother of Wolves has been born!" freewēbnoveℓ.com
My eyes scanned as I saw some of the crowd murmuring among themselves, nodding in approval, then erupted again, their cheers louder, more fervent. As the maid’s words from earlier echoed in my mind. Alpha Darius’s voice boomed again, cutting through the noise. "Soon, the Mother of Wolves will be revealed to us, her identity made known by the seer. And with her presence, Black Bane will rise to unmatched glory!"
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. He continued. This mating ceremony of my sons and their Luna," he declared, "will not only unite my sons with their destined Luna but will also strengthen the sacred bond between Black Bane and Warborn. Our packs, long allied, will become one in purpose, one in strength, under the Moon Goddess’s divine will!"
The cheers swelled again. I couldn’t bear it any longer. Slipping away from the courtyard, I walked through the crowd, keeping my head low to avoid the curious glances that always followed me, the cursed one, the outcast. The music and laughter faded as I hurried toward the pack house, the maid’s quarters.
I reached my room. My door creaked as I pushed it open, and I stepped inside and sank onto the edge of my bed, clutching my worn pillow to my chest as my eyes form tears gradually. My fingers dug into the softness of the pillow as I could hear my own heart beating fast at Liora’s mating ceremony and then the maid’s harsh words as my urge to not show weakness intensified. And then my thoughts drifted back to my experience at warborn.
Especially that book. I needed that book. It holds the answers to what had happened last night at my transformation perhaps, to the pain and power of my first shift. But Warborn had cast me out. How could I possibly get it? The thought only got me worried.
I hugged the pillow tighter, tears streaming down my eyes now. There had to be a way. My mind churned, searching for a solution, when suddenly, Amelia’s name flashed my memory. My only friend and sister in this wretched pack, the one person who’d never looked at me with scorn.
Before I could dwell on it, the door to my room burst open with a sharp creak. startled, my head snapped up as I saw Amelia stood in the doorway. Her eyes filled with worry locked onto mine. "Iris!" she called softly as she approached. Before I could stand, she threw her arms around me, pulling me into a fierce hug. The pillow fell to the floor as her warmth enveloped me. The hug was passionate as I could feel the wetness of her tears on my shoulders.
"I was so worried!" she said, her voice muffled against my shoulder. "When I heard you’d been banished from Warborn, I thought... Gods, I didn’t know what to think! I’ve been looking for you all morning!" She pulled back, her hands gripping my shoulders as her eyes roamed over me, as if searching for something. "Are you hurt? Did they do anything to you? Tell me, Iris. What happened?"
I managed a small smile, her concern and presence making me feel safe despite the chaos in my mind. "I’m fine, Amy," I said softly. I gently pried her hands from my shoulders and guided her to sit beside me on the bed and she tucked a stray of her curly hair behind her ear, her brows still knitted with worry.
"Fine?" she repeated, her tone shifting to a scolding manner as she crossed her arms. "Iris, what were you thinking going into the Warborn library? The sacred library, of all places! Do you have any idea how much trouble you could’ve gotten into? You’re lucky they only banished you!"
I opened my mouth to speak but no words came. How could I explain it? The truth sounded ridiculous even to me. "It was Lyra," I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "She... led me there."
Amelia’s brow furrowed, her head tilting. "Lyra? Who’s Lyra?" She questioned, wiping her tears.
I adjusted , shifting closer as I held her both hands, squeezing then gently. Listen, Amy, I’ve gotten my wolf. Her name is Lyra."
Her eyes widened, and a grin smile broke across her face. "You got your wolf?!" she squealed, grabbing my hands and squeezing them. "Oh, Iris, that’s amazing! What’s she like? What color is she? Is she beautiful? I bet she’s stunning!"
I hesitated, my excitement dimming as the memories of last night flooded back. "I... I don’t know," I admitted, my voice faltering. "I had my first transformation last night, but it was... it didn’t last long. Only a few minutes."
Amelia’s smile faded, her eyes softening with concern. She leaned closer, her hand resting lightly on my arm. "A few minutes? What do you mean? What happened?"
I swallowed hard, the ache of that memory tightening my throat. "It was awful, Amy. The pain too was like my whole body was breaking apart. Lyra said it would be easy, that she’d help me, but she didn’t. It was... unbearable. I saw myself as this huge white wolf, with red eyes, but then it was gone, and I collapsed. I don’t know how to control it. I don’t know how to be a wolf."
Her hand tightened on my arm, her expression shifting to sincere concern. "Oh, Iris," she said softly, her voice filled with empathy. "Everyone’s first shift is always the hardest. But you’re strong, you survived it. And a white wolf? That’s beautiful and amazing. You just need to learn how to harness it."
I nodded. "I don’t know where to start," I said, my voice barely audible. "But... when I was in the Warborn library, I saw something. A book. It was called The New Wolf’s Guide to Transformation and Taking Control. I think it could help me figure this out, help me understand what’s happening to me. I want that book. But I can’t go back there. I’m banished you know? I need you to get it for me,"
Amelia’s eyes widened as she snapped, her hands gripping the edge of the bed. "What? Me? Have you gone insane, Iris?" she scolded. "Go back to the Warborn library? After they banished you? They will banish me too and make my mother suffer for my crimes. There are other ways to learn about your wolf, Iris. Safer ways! I can’t just go back there! They won’t spare me."
I stood, pacing for a few seconds as I stood in front of her, not tearing off the gaze.
"I’m sorry Amy... but I don’t have any other options for other ways. That book is the only thing that I think could help me. I need it to understand what’s happening to me."
She crossed her arms. "Listen Iris,." She said, standing as she stood in front of me, holding my hands with love.
"I can teach you. You want to be a better wolf? I will teach you Iris." She said.
"You don’t seem to understand. I don’t know why I’m getting this sudden urge to get that book." I replied.
Her soft voice came again. "I’m not going, Iris. It’s too risky. If they catch me sneaking around in the sacred library, I could lose everything. You know how strict and heartless Warborn is!"
"I don’t know how to control Lyra, and that book could save me from whatever this is." My eyes burned, but I held her gaze, willing her to understand.
She shook her head again. "Iris, no. I care about you, but this is crazy. You’ll get us both in trouble."
I swallowed. "Fine," I said. "I’ll get it myself then."
