Chapter 141: Katherine’s Scar

Her schedule for the night was complete, but she was in the mood for ice cream and wanted to feel the evening breeze. There was nothing for her to do the next day either, so she could sleep in—until she noticed a car that had been following her for a while.

Eva frowned deeply, her eyebrows furrowing into a deep knot when she saw the same car that had been following her for over thirty minutes now.

It was a cab and she wanted to dismiss her instincts since cabs drove everywhere. But what were the chances that the same cab had been following her for over thirty minutes already?

Katherine urged the driver to drive faster when she noticed that Eva had sped up her car, forcing them to speed up after her as well. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"I hope I’m not going to get into trouble for this ma’am?" The driver asked. "That car looks very expensive and the owner can sue us."

"Don’t worry. I know the owner. We’re both friends and I actually want to surprise her," Katherine lied through her teeth.

The driver merely glanced at her through the rearview mirror but didn’t say anything.

All of a sudden, they lost Eva in a crowded street. Her car suddenly disappeared.

"Where did she go?" Katherine muttered, her eyebrows deeply furrowed.

Following the same route, they saw the same car parked at the side of the street.

"There she is. You can stop here. Don’t get too close," she instructed the driver. She grabbed money from her pockets and handed it over to the driver before stepping out of the cab.

Katherine walked towards the car with precision, glancing left and right to make sure no one was around. At the end of the day, she was still a prison runaway. And since meeting Eva was a terrible idea, she felt she needed to do so that Eva wouldn’t think she’d completely gotten rid of her.

However, when Katherine got to the car, she didn’t see anyone sitting in the driver’s seat.

She frowned deeply at this, her heart skipping a beat out of fear at the thought that Eva could be hiding somewhere.

"Don’t move."

Katherine froze when she heard that voice.

Her heart hammered against her chest. She’d completely forgotten who Eva was by underestimating her. This was the same woman she’d tried to kill multiple times but she escaped death as if she were God’s favorite.

"Now, slowly turn around," Eva ordered, her eyes narrowed at the person, dressed in a hoodie that completely obscured their identity.

Katherine did as she was instructed, biting her teeth as rage bubbled beneath her skin.

When she did, her blood instantly went cold.

Eva was standing in front of her with a gun pointed right at her.

Out of all the weapons she had in mind Eva would have with her, a gun certainly wasn’t one of them.

Eva frowned when she saw the eyes of the person—confirming it was a woman, but she still couldn’t quite make the face.

"Take off your hoodie."

A grin stretched on Katherine’s face at this question.

"Why? Can’t you recognize me, Alisha? Or should I call you Eva?" Katherine questioned.

Once she saw the shock plastered over Eva’s face, she smirked in satisfaction.

"Katherine."

"Pleased to make your acquaintance. Did you miss me?" She asked.

When Eva had seen the cab discreetly following behind her, she’d thought it was one of the people that Mr. De Rossi had gotten rid of her as usual. Katherine certainly didn’t come up in her mind at all.

"So, you escaped prison just to make a grand reappearance dressed like that? I actually had high expectations from you, Katherine, but disappointment is engraved into your skin so well that it has become a second layer," she retorted, a faint smirk on her lips.

Eva was aware that Katherine had escaped prison a few months ago. At first, she thought it would be stupid for Katherine to show her face to her, but then again, it’s Katherine.

Katherine took off her hood, completely ignoring Eva’s retort.

"What about you? I heard you’re divorced from your ex-husband now. I guess your so-called perfect life isn’t as perfect as it used to be." Her lips quirked up to a mockery grin.

Eva scowled at Katherine.

"I think that you should be more worried about yourself instead of worrying about my life, Katherine, because you see this?" She glanced at the gun in her hands. "I won’t hesitate to use it on you at all. In fact, it’s a good thing you’re here. I can kill you and get rid of your body myself so you don’t pop out of nowhere."

Fear instantly gripped Katherine. But then she studied the gun, taking in every feature.

"You think you’re going to be able to scare me with a toy gun?" She laughed so hard that tears brimmed in the corners of her eyes.

Katherine didn’t know the kinds of dirty things Eva was involved in. So, she believed the gun wasn’t real.

"Have you ever held a gun in your life? Do you know how to use it?" Katherine asked, trying to hold her laughter but it spilled.

Eva was starting to enjoy the moment even better now.

"Wanna test it?" She asked, cocking the gun and aiming at Katherine’s forehead.

But instead of feeling scared, Katherine was anticipating the gunshot instead.

A car suddenly drove past with its headlights on, brightening the street as if it were day again.

The light flashed on Katherine’s face, revealing all her facial features, and the one thing that Eva never thought she would see on Katherine’s face.

A scar that sliced from her forehead to her cheeks.

She instantly backed away, her legs stumbling. She’d never seen a scar on Katherine’s face before since the latter was always wearing at least 10kg of makeup all the time.

"What now?" Katherine asked with a grin on her lips. "Can’t bring yourself to shoot me anymore?"
