Chapter 303: Chapter 101: Cleaning Up the Battlefield

There’s a saying: "An army’s defeat is like a mountain collapsing."

In fact, when one side on the battlefield starts to gain absolute advantage, the battle ends much quicker than expected.

After the Great Sword Warrior and the Twin Swordsmen fell, only three remained on the man with sunglasses’ side: the bald Thunder Mage, the female gunner, and himself.

Without a single close-combatant left against two Knights, what resistance could they possibly offer?

The two Power Armor Knights charged forward; Sigrdrifa’s Battle Axe beheaded the bald Mage, Eleanor raised her Shield against the gunshots, and the Long Spear tore through the Adaptive Force Field Shield, impaling the desperate female gunner.

The North Wind Axe aimed for the man with sunglasses but was parried by a Fine Gold Spear. Eleanor slowly shook her head, turning to Sigrdrifa:

"Keep one alive for questioning."

The man with sunglasses stood up in a daze, his Mind Body completely under control. Of course, the so-called questioning wouldn’t simply be a crude interrogation of "you ask, I answer", but rather a more thorough and brutal memory search.

"That’s rough." Considering the fate the man would face, Sigrdrifa shook her head in empathy, "Eleanor, if we were caught by two Mind Mages, should we quickly end ourselves to avoid being stripped of our bodies and having our Minds searched?"

Eleanor refused to respond to such an odd question. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Mia began to collect the Extraordinary Traits that had condensed on the corpses. The little girl loved cleaning up the battlefield, unable to move at the sight of Extraordinary Traits, so everyone was happy to leave the task of collecting the spoils of war to her.

"Lv.5... Lv.6... Hmm, this one’s good." With each Extraordinary Trait she picked up, she would bring it close to her eyes for careful examination, weighing it in her small hand as if evaluating the quality of gold and silver. Of course, assessing the level with the naked eye is impossible; she was just bluffing.

"Squad Leader, Squad Leader!" She joyfully presented a pile of Extraordinary Traits to Aske, "What should we do with these next?"

As everyone knows, there are three major uses for the Extraordinary Traits condensed after a Transcendent’s death:

1. Disassemble. If you know the Sequence composition of the particular Extraordinary Trait, it can be disassembled into the corresponding Magic Potion Main Material. Of course, considering higher-level Extraordinary Traits consist of multiple Sequences, if the full Sequences are unclear, it is also possible to use the method of guesswork enumeration, but if disassembly fails multiple times, the Trait can become contaminated and rendered useless.

2. Crush by hand. Regardless of the Trait’s Sequence composition, directly crushing it by hand allows one to absorb the Extraordinary Power inside, which can be used to increase one’s own Physical Power or Spiritual Power. Of course, the Extraordinary Traits will definitely dissipate.

3. Sell. As for whether the buyer wants to disassemble or crush them by hand, who cares?

"We can try to disassemble a few," Aske said, picking up a Trait, "Take the rest back with us, see if we can sell them, if not, we’ll just crush them."

"Here’s one more." Peggy rushed back from a distance, handing over the Extraordinary Trait condensed on the Sniper’s body.

"This guy, what do you plan to do with him?" Sigrdrifa asked, looking at the man with sunglasses who was under control.

"Get all the intel first, then deal with him," Medea said coldly.

"Wait." Eleanor interjected, "He is our prisoner now, and there’s no need for us to..."

"Going soft?" Medea glanced at her skeptically.

"That’s not what I meant," Eleanor replied calmly, "We are amidst a war, and casualties are inevitable during combat, but we don’t need to kill our prisoners. What I mean is, we can take him back to the Earl of Innsbruck; a living person is always more valuable than a dead one, right? Plus, we might get a corresponding reward."

"I don’t think we can exchange for a corresponding reward," Medea countered, "This man possesses ’Flame III’, precisely what I need as the main ingredient for my next Magic Potion. After we’ve thoroughly searched his memories and understood his Sequence composition, we can finish him, perfectly disassemble his Extraordinary Trait, and each take what we need."

"Perhaps Earl Innsbruck also has a ’Flame III’ Magic Potion?" Eleanor was persuaded by her argument, but she still wanted to make one last effort.

"Eleanor," Thira also sided with Medea, "the value of a Level III Magic Potion cannot be compared to a war prisoner. Even considering it from a more malicious perspective, it’s highly likely that Duke Innsbruck would also choose to have a Mind Transcendent interrogate him, drain all the needed information, then kill him, and dissect his Extraordinary Traits—this would be the most beneficial scenario for the Duke."

"Given this, not only is it uncertain whether the Duke would reward us with the main materials of the ’Flame III’ he obtained, but there’s also a high chance he’ll gain intelligence about our team during the interrogation. This means all harm and no benefit for us—are you sure this is what you want?"

"I understand now." Eleanor had no response and fell silent for a while, taking a deep breath, "You handle it."

She turned around, not wanting to see how the prisoner was dealt with anymore and strode away from the scene. Nora hurried after her with concern:

"Ellie."

"I’m fine," Eleanor said in a subdued voice, "This is war, I know that."

"I’m just not used to it yet."

————————

The prisoner was dealt with quickly, as the group couldn’t take him with them on their journey back to the city.

They crippled his arms and legs, used Nora’s "Spirit Body I" ability to restrain his spirituality, and added a dose of paralyzing toxin produced by Peggy’s "Poison I" ability. The man in sunglasses became a helpless waste desperate for death.

Then came the extremely brutal mental invasion. Concern for the target’s mental resilience was unnecessary, as Medea unleashed her full spiritual might, torturing the man in sunglasses until he woke from the pain only to pass out from it again and again. Incapable of activating his abilities or resisting, not even able to commit suicide, he ended up foaming at the mouth with crooked tongue, dilated pupils, and incontinence, his psyche utterly destroyed.

"All done," said Medea, who had obtained all the information, rising to her feet. Sigrdrifa then dealt a swift blow with her axe.

They extracted the condensed Extraordinary Traits. The group then immediately hurried back to the city—teleporting en masse to Fire Island, leaving only Peggy Mia to quickly take over and sprint off.

Inside Fire Island, a small table was set up in an open space, displaying the war trophies of extraordinary traits—they were of various shapes, colors, and sheens.

The man in sunglasses, the bald Thunder Mage, the muscular Great Sword Warrior, the twin Swordsmen, the Sniper, and the initially dispatched Shadow Ability User—altogether seven. Excluding the female gunner who was not a Transcendent, all the Extraordinary Traits were here.

"The Sniper should have either Intuitive or Conspiracy Sequence traits," the group began to share intelligence, trying to deduce the value of these traits, with Miel speaking first, "He clearly anticipated my attack when I fired."

"It should be an Intuition Sequence," Peggy added, "When I found him, he was not aware of his exposure. If it had been a Conspiracy Sequence, he would have felt my ill intent."

Conspiracy and Intuition Sequences, as abilities both operating on perception and anticipation, were fundamentally quite different. Conspiracy could sense aimed ill intent, while Intuition could perceive imminent danger.

For example, if someone was planning to Assassinate a Transcendent but did not intend to act immediately, a Conspiracy ability user would sense it, while an Intuition ability user would not react.

Another example, if someone suddenly decided to destroy an entire camp and the ability user happened to be inside, an Intuition ability user would perceive the impending danger while a Conspiracy ability user would have a harder time sensing it because the ill intent was directed at "the entire camp" and not "the ability user personally."

Of course, these distinctions apply to lower-level Sequences.

When it comes to a high-rank Conspiracy Ability, it’s so sensitive that even if ill intent is directed at a large group and even if it’s diluted when reaching the Transcendent, they would still perceive something.

A high-rank Intuition Ability would detect even a brief glancing look; they no longer need to consider whether the other party was premeditating or about to act.

This Sniper obviously wasn’t a high-rank Conspiracy or Intuition Ability user. Probably only at Level I or II.

So, what are the remaining Sequences?
