Chapter 320: Chapter 118 Infiltration and Surprise Attack

"Can you receive the radio signal?" Alfred asked over the communication channel.

"Received," Aske responded.

"You are now in the D1 area," Alfred said, "Half the area of the trenches in C3 has been occupied by the enemy, and they’ve set up a machine gun somewhere there, seemingly intending to use it as a stronghold for invading nearby areas. You know what to do, right?"

"Roger that," Aske said, "We’re heading to C3 to wipe them out now."

"Heh, how amusing," Alfred suddenly remarked, "The last time I directed tactics over the radio, it was against you and the Olympia garrison."

"Just serving our respective lords," Aske replied coolly.

"Right," Alfred said, "I see you now. Turn right in 25 meters ahead, there’s a shortcut. Go through there and you’ll enter the enemy-held C3 area."

"Okay," Aske said.

"Don’t die," Alfred said, "Otherwise, I won’t have the chance to get my revenge."

"You’ll have your chance," Aske replied.

The group rushed into the narrow trench, the ground sloping upwards until the end revealed a steep drop; jumping down would take them into the C3 area, where several White Wolf Knights could be seen stationed.

Under Aske’s command, Peggy was the first to leap down the slope, swinging her Hot Melt Blade in midair, abruptly creating four or five illusions.

Although these White Wolf Knights possessed formidable physical power, they were still Lv.0 and mostly ignorant of extraordinary powers. Seeing four or five sword-wielding girls suddenly dropping from above, they didn’t care whether these were illusions or something else and instinctively drew their swords and charged in.

Peggy’s illusions disappeared almost instantly upon landing. Having learned the Ilanian Instant Step from Mia, her explosive power had already exceeded the speed that ordinary people could discern.

These White Wolf Knights were also well-trained soldiers. Seeing the foe suddenly vanish before them, they quickly retreated and mutually covered each other’s backs—as dictated by tactical protocol: if the enemy is very fast, the first thing to do is to guard against rapid backstabbing.

As a result, when they took a step back and didn’t press against their comrade’s back, a blade pierced through from behind them.

"No challenge at all," Peggy said blandly, standing amidst a pile of fallen bodies, mimicking Aske’s tone.

"Of course, they’re all Lv.0 normies," Aske couldn’t help but give a wry smile.

"But I’m also quite amazing, handling multiple enemies at once," Peggy still stubbornly insisted.

"Take care of the bodies, Mia," Aske said, ignoring her ’praise me’ implication, which made Peggy stomp her foot in frustration.

With a gentle wave of her hand, Mia caused the shadows at the base of the slope to twist and warp, wriggling as they dragged the bodies into the Shadow Realm, where they would slowly corrode to nothing.

After all, with shadow ability, it was incredibly handy for things like "home travel" and "disposing of evidence."

"Will this prevent us from being discovered?" Miel asked.

"No," Medea answered for Aske, "It only delays the time until we’re exposed."

The team quickly advanced towards the designated target location. Barely 20 meters out, Aske and Miel’s intuitive abilities issued a severe warning simultaneously:

"Sniper!"

Almost reflexively, the girls hit the dirt, rolling frantically to find cover—all a conditioned reflex forcefully trained with the stench of surströmming juice bullets.

Only Aske remained standing in place, suddenly swinging her Longsword in a certain direction. Rapid Fire!

With a clang, the blade of the sword shattered into countless fragments, and Aske had already swiftly dropped low, sitting down against the trench wall as cover, and then turned to Miel, saying:

"The sniper is at the 2 o’clock position, on the elevated land with trees. Mia, take Miel back to the steep slope we just came from, then take him out!"

"Aske!" Mia’s voice trembled because she saw a fine blood line on Aske’s face.

"I’m fine," Aske touched the wound and said calmly, "The cut was made by the shattered blade fragment when I broke the bullet just now."

Before her words had even faded, Nora’s Healing Gun fired up. In the pale green light of healing, the blood line on his face quickly vanished.

"Just a scratch, no need to waste spirituality," Aske nodded to Nora, then looked at Mia again, "Go."

"Okay." Mia grabbed Miel, her figure sinking into the shadows of the trench and quickly dissolving into it.

Everyone fell silent, and for a moment, only the sporadic gunfire from afar could be heard. Eleanor’s massive Power Armor shrank into the shadow of the trench’s corner, and a voice came from inside the helmet:

"It’s a pity about your Longsword, Squad Leader." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"There’s nothing to pity," Aske said. "It was just an ordinary Longsword."

"Even the Squad Leader can’t handle a Sniper?" Sigrdrifa asked.

"If I had a sniper rifle, I could take care of it," Aske said.

"Then why not have Miel hand over the sniper rifle to you?" Sigrdrifa said, puzzled. "And then you could just take out the enemy directly?"

"Sure," Aske said indifferently, "why don’t you also give me your Power Armor? That way, I can take the hits, be responsible for output, and also double as a Sniper, covering every job in the squad by myself. You all can just stay on Fire Island and have endless holidays, doing nothing."

The girls chuckled, except Sigrdrifa, who was still genuinely confused: "Yeah, why not?"

"Of course, it’s to train the team," Medea could not stand by and reminded her.

"Train?"

"We’re a team," Aske said. "A team should have each member performing their roles and dividing the workload. I could do all of your jobs, but that would be meaningless. You wouldn’t get the growth you’re supposed to, and I’d be very tired."

The group pondered this.

A gunshot came from the slope behind them. Half a minute later, Mia reemerged from the shadows with Miel.

"Target down," Miel said.

"Let’s go." Aske stood up.

In the distance, at the Wolf Family’s command camp.

"Sniper Number 13 has been taken out!"

"What happened? Sniper Point Number 13 should have been a covert spot, what about Number 15?"

"Number 15... The Sniper is still alive."

The commanders suddenly realized something was amiss.

The Wolf Family’s Snipers had adopted the twin-spot Tactics prevalent in Italy, assigning all Snipers to either visible or hidden spots.

The visible Snipers were tasked with Assassinations, targeting the enemy’s commanding officers, important vehicles, Transcendents, and so on. Due to frequent firing, they also easily exposed their positions and would often rapidly leave the post after shooting to reposition.

The hidden Snipers, on the other hand, were tasked with protection, such as guarding certain objectives or strategic locations. These Snipers would often remain concealed in their position for extended periods, sometimes not firing a single shot for an entire day, only engaging to Assassinate the enemy when specific conditions were met.

For example, if someone attempted to enter a strategic passage.

Because of their concealment, casualties among the hidden Snipers were usually much lower than those among the visible ones. However, now the dead Number 13 was from a hidden spot, and yet the nearby Number 15, a visible Sniper, was unharmed, alerting the experienced commanders that something was off.

"What was Number 13’s target?"

"Protection of the A21 machine gun position," a command staff immediately said.

"Someone’s trying to attack A21?" another staff quickly pulled up the nearby map. "The 687th White Wolf Squad should be stationed there, can we get in touch with them?"

"687 is silent," replied the communicator.

Okay, something was definitely wrong. The enemy’s special forces, perhaps even a Transcendent, must have struck, silencing 687 without a chance to send a warning.

"The enemy’s target is the A21 machine gun point, and the nearby White Wolf Squad is..."

"Don’t send the White Wolf Squad," General Haimer suddenly interrupted the staff’s discussion. "Send the Angel Army directly."

"But, if it’s the Angel Army..."

"I will report to Lord Hidden Strings." Haimer replied.
