Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 77: Don’t Show Sympathy
Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Don’t Show Sympathy
The two women were just as shocked as Lu Tao when they heard what he said. They couldn’t believe that a fellow human being’s morals could decay to such an extent.
How could anyone be so mean and so lacking in empathy? How is she different from a killer with no feelings for his victims?
"I thought your sister-in-law was being too overcautious when she told us not to open the door for anyone or give anyone anything even if they brought crying children with them.
If someone could just pretend to be pitiful to get some supplies so that he or she doesn’t have to risk their lives to look for supplies outside while others like your brother and sister-in-law disregarded their safety to obtain those things, then there is indeed no need to be merciful." Li Yunjia became angry after the shock subsided.
Even though her son and daughter-in-law had awakened superpowers and could probably also fight, she was still holding her heart in her hands because she was afraid that they wouldn’t come back.
She keeps thinking that if something happens to them, she wouldn’t be able to live anymore. If they bring back supplies in such a situation and someone else feels entitled to swindle them, then she would be the first to disagree.
She had not thought about it before and had the same mentality as before. If a neighbor borrows something, just give it to them. You can get more later.
But after hearing this story, her mentality had changed. How could something that her son and daughter-in-law exchanged by risking their lives be given away so casually? If someone was starving to death, they should go out and look for food themselves.
No one was obligated to take care of another in a world without morals. So, she was going to heed to her daughter-in-law’s words and ignore anyone who comes to borrow things even if they bring crying children or dying elderly.
"Let’s listen to your sister-in-law. Let’s not open the door for anyone or give anyone anything.
Such a person if given an inch would take a mile. If you give such a person anything, they would become a leech that can’t be shaken off.
It’s better to stay away from them and live our own lives." Li Yunjia advised after coming to terms with the situation.
"I was about to say the same thing. If we entertain someone like that, we would only get Ah Zhen and Panpan into trouble. It’s better to pretend to be deaf if or when those people come." Aunt Li also added with a subtle sigh.
She was also unable to understand how someone could be so cruel.
Lu Zhen led the way and headed towards the city center. At first he was still apprehensive about Leng Pan riding alone. But after a while, he found that she rode just as well as those professional riders.
Thus, he stopped being nervous and increased his speed. The situation outside was indeed worse than what the news showed.
The number of zombies on the streets was also higher. There were zombies walking around on the streets, leaving buildings and moving in any direction they smelled living humans.
Their movements were slow. So slow that Leng Pan wondered how so many people got bitten when a living human could move so many times faster than a zombie.
But it’s probably because many of them still thought that their relatives and friends could be saved. So, they got close to help and ended up bitten.
This was also the reason the virus had spread so fast and become uncontrollable. She hoped that people had already realized the significance of staying away from the infected and if possible, kill them to prevent future trouble.
It might be difficult to kill a family member, but if they had already turned into zombies, then they were equivalent to the dead already.
The motorcycles weaved through roads blocked by abandoned vehicles and fallen boulders. It looked like some people got scared while on the road and abandoned their cars to find a place to hide.
Even though the government had cleared parts of the road, it was still mostly blocked.
Lu Zhen and Leng Pan had to drift sometimes to get around some of the debris or potholes in the road. The fallen meteorites had caused a lot of damage not only to the buildings, but also the roads.
The road to the city center required some skill to navigate and get through. Moreover, they still had to avoid the nearby zombies that were moving towards them and stretching their arms to catch them.
Even though they moved slowly, if a zombie happened to be where they were passing through, without being careful, one could still be scratched by accident.
While driving past one of those huge fallen meteorites, Lu Zhen and Leng Pan could feel some heat coming from it.
Without even speaking, both stopped their motorcycles at the same time with synchronized movements as if they could communicate telepathically.
They removed their helmets and Leng Pan inserted her hand inside her jacket and brought out two guns. The truth was, those guns were in space and she used her jacket as a cover to take them out.
She didn’t know who might be watching, so she couldn’t be careless.
She gave one gun to Lu Zhen and held the other in hand.
She was aware that with the two of them moving together, their vitality was off the charts and zombies would be attracted to them pretty fast.
Leng Pan had noticed while driving by that some of the abandoned vehicles still had people inside who had turned into zombies. They must have been too scared to leave the vehicle and ended up mutating inside the car.
They were beating the glass window and trying to get out while some of the zombies who happened to be more than one inside a car had missing flesh on parts of their bodies.
She had seen one with a large chunk of missing flesh on the neck. Another one had the bones on their arm showing after the flesh had been gnawed.
