Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Leng Pan’s Past

The voice was very light and very distant. It felt like it came from somewhere far or from a different space. They couldn’t tell which.

What was more frustrating was that they couldn’t hear clearly what was being said. However, they could tell that whatever or whoever was speaking exuded a lot of pressure, not with malice or friendliness, but filled with indifference.

There was only one emotion that could be deciphered clearly; desire. Unfortunately, they couldn’t tell what it was a desire for. But they understood that it had something to do with the apocalypse. Otherwise, this meteorite wouldn’t accompany the ones that turned the Earth into a haven for walking corpses.

Realizing that they won’t figure anything out like this even if they kept listening, they gave up and decided to explore the rest of the building.

They walked around the living room but didn’t see a door. They could tell that the mansion was huge and could even see beyond the living room and a spiraling staircase that looked like it was made of glass, or probably another transparent hologram could be seen.

However, they couldn’t find a door to get there. Leng Pan had no choice but to ask.

"How can we look around in other rooms?" She knew that whatever was talking to her before was still there.

"Commander Leng needs to trigger memory awakening to gain access." The voice came again.

"Again with the memory awakening. What on earth is that anyway?" She asked in frustration.

"I am not programmed to say. But if you remember your past, you will know." The voice replied then went quiet abruptly as if interrupted by something.

It was obvious it had said more than it was supposed to say. Leng Pan didn’t ask any more questions and urged Lu Zhen to leave.

"Let’s go practice what we have gained for now then we can come back later for more research once we’ve digested our current gains." She said as she grabbed her husband’s hand and walked towards the door.

"Mmm... you shouldn’t stress yourself over things you can’t understand. You are special, and maybe there is a reason for that. So don’t worry too much about today’s discovery.

We will eventually find out what all this information means. For now, it doesn’t seem like a bad thing. So, just embrace it." Lu Zhen comforted and reassured Leng Pan who seemed to be highly bothered by the information given by the voice in the mansion.

He was also a little confused and curious, but as long as the person in front of him was his Leng Pan, he didn’t care. He would do whatever it takes to protect her.

After leaving the mansion, they still went to check the warehouse, and the place looked so empty compared to the last time they were here.

It looked like the space had not just doubled, it was almost triple the original size. Now the supplies that filled the place and looked like they would burst, with a little more resembled an empty building with some boxes in a corner.

There was so much more they could do with the extra space. They decided to start scavenging for supplies as soon as their superpowers stabilized and they gained control over their new abilities.

Since there was nothing more to do, they left the place with a thought from Leng Pan and appeared in their master bedroom again.

They didn’t even have time to breathe before the doorbell rang.

’That should be Lu Tao.’ They both thought.

They had no time to bathe and clean up before Leng Pan picked up a remote control on the bedside table and pressed a button.

The door opened followed by the young man’s voice.

"Big brother, sister-in-law, where are you guys? Why didn’t you come see us when you came back? We’ve been waiting for ten minutes but you didn’t show up."

At first, they had ignored his insistent questions, but when they heard the last statement, they stopped and stood up in unison.

The two walked to the living room where Lu Tao was pacing up and down and looked at him.

"How long did you say it was since we came back?" Lu Zhen asked with his usual serious big-brother expression.

"It’s been ten minutes. How come you can’t even count that? Also, your house is really different, the Feng Shui here must be magical and very good, as soon as you came close I can feel my superpower reacting and somehow my energy is increasing.

How come I didn’t feel that way before?" Lu Tao replied to Lu Zhen and also gave more seemingly unnecessary information but this sentence shook the two to the core.

No wonder when they took the meteorite from the crater that day the zombies didn’t seem to react at all. It seemed that residue from the meteorite attaches itself to things or people and lingers around for a while.

Because they had stayed near the meteorite in the mansion for some time, which to them seemed to be at least two hours, while Lu Tao claims that they had only been gone for ten minutes, some of its energy seemed to have rubbed off on them.

They carried it to the outside and it was also affecting Lu Tao’s superpower. It seemed that others could also benefit from their contact with the meteorite without coming in contact with it personally.

Thinking of this, they wanted to see if their mother and aunt would have a reaction before the energy fades.

So they urged the boy with a million whys to go to the other apartment.

"Let’s go see Mom and the others, then, before they start thinking that something happened to us and you got involved too." Leng Pan commented and led the way.

If Lu Zhen could think of it, of course, she could think about it too.

Maybe if she sat next to her mother-in-law like always something might be triggered. So, she was eager to try. Lu Zhen also followed his wife and left the boy with a puzzled expression to follow once he was ready.

Feeling that the Feng Shui seemed to have weakened after the two big shots left, Lu Tao ran after them to smooch off their aura. He thought that maybe it wasn’t Feng Shui helping his superpower increase but their strong auras.

Hence, the three entered the next apartment in a single file like a duck and its ducklings.

Li Yunjia felt like a rock that had been sitting in her chest had finally fallen when she saw her son and daughter-in-law walk into the house unharmed.

She smiled and beckoned to Leng Pan to come to her. With light steps, Leng Pan walked to her mother-in-law and sat down next to her while grabbing her arm.

She acted like a daughter who was spoiled and had missed her mother for centuries. Li Yunjia had never seen Leng Pan act so spoiled but she was happy about this development. She had always wanted a daughter and seeing this made her feel like now she had one she could spoil.

If only things weren’t as complicated as they were now, she could go shopping with her and buy her pretty dresses. It was such a pity, but she was grateful that she still had her even in this situation.

"What did you see? Why do you look so emotional? And why did you go straight to your apartment and not come back here directly? We were worried to death." Li Yunjia fired three consecutive questions at once. Indeed, she and Lu Tao were mother and son. Asking questions in the same style.

Leng Pan almost laughed when she remembered how Lu Tao had asked questions in the same tone in their apartment.

But she had to give her mother-in-law and the others an account of what had happened and what they had discovered.
