Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 249. Backed into a Corner
Chapter 249: Chapter 249. Backed into a Corner freewebnøvel.com
The battle inside the Sewer Snakes’ warehouse continued to rage. Due to his higher cultivation, Lu Zu slowly pressed Qiang Dan into a passive situation. Qiang Dan could only defend as Lu Zu bombarded him with assaults.
Despite having the same cultivation and elemental affinity as Dao Se, Qiang Dan couldn’t be compared to Dao Se. Dao Se was a talented cultivator who led a major underworld organization in Qishurg City, while Qiang Dan was only a member of a small, insignificant group that was eradicated. Qiang Dan had the same cultivation as Dao Se because he was much older than Dao Se. He had cultivated much longer.
Qiang Dan’s current prowess could even be attributed to Amon’s guidance. He had joined the Demon Gang for a year. During this time, Amon secretly helped him improve into a decent combatant. He was supposed to be Amon’s secret weapon, after all. It would be bad if the secret weapon were dull.
Even so, there was a limit to Qiang Dan’s improvement. He was not talented, to begin with. Thus, Lu Zu slowly gained superiority in the fight despite Qiang Dan having the advantage in terms of elements.
This situation didn’t last long, though. Before long, Lu Zu found himself surrounded.
Most of Sewer Snakes members had been killed. The Demon Gang outnumbered the Sewer Snakes, after all. They also had the advantage of a surprise attack. With the others attacking him, Lu Zu could no longer maintain his momentum.
"You, bastard! You think you people can defeat me just because you have more numbers?" Lu Zu yelled. The air around him underwent repeated spontaneous combustions.
These combustions deflected attacks that came from his blind spots. The Demon Gang failed to land a hit despite swarming Lu Zu from all directions because of these defensive combustions. The combustion’s force was enough to repel any attack. Even when Amon used his Water Slicing Ring, it could not slice through the defense.
The combustions usually only occurred when a sneak attack was about to land. This time, however, they happened even when no one was attacking. There were so many combustions that Lu Zu was as if covered by mini explosions all around him.
The combustion finally stopped, but the fire did not diminish. There was as if a layer of fire around Lu Zu.
Lu Zu displayed a wicked grin. He said, "It is not every day I show the full power of my Scorching Field. You all should be honored. Now, die...!!!"
He charged at Qiang Dan. Claw and glaive clashed again. This time, Qiang Dan’s River Path was completely vaporized. Qiang Dan also stumbled back and almost fell.
The others lunged at Lu Zu when he was clashing with Qiang Dan. Their attacks were again repelled by the combustions around Lu Zu. However, this time, the combustions also spurted flames in their direction. The flames washed over them and set them ablaze.
These people screamed in agony as they tried to douse the fire burning their bodies, but the flames refused to extinguish. Lu Zu ended their suffering by crushing their skulls in a series of high-speed chained movements. The others stopped from advancing after seeing the scene.
"Attack him from distance! He won’t be able to keep that state for long!" Amon exclaimed. At the same time, twenty flying knives shot out from his hands. They left trails of light as they flew toward Lu Zu from different directions.
Lu Zu couldn’t dodge since the knives covered all sides, but these knives failed to touch him. Each knife triggered a combustion that threw the knife away. Amon followed up his attacks by taking out his small crossbow and started shooting.
Following Amon’s lead, the others also used whatever ranged attacks available to them. Some used their arts, while others used weapons. The air around Lu Zu was again covered by non-stop combustion. The tongues of fire produced by the combustion lashed out. But since everyone was using ranged attacks, these tongues couldn’t touch them.
"Grh...!" Lu Zu gritted his teeth. Amon was not wrong. This state consumed a large amount of aether. He wouldn’t be able to maintain it for long if everyone kept triggering its automatic combustion effects.
Lu Zu shot to the side. He couldn’t afford to stay still. The person he came close to burst into flames from touching the layer of fire around him. He then zoomed to another person.
"Move around! Keep your distance from him!" Amon instructed. He himself adjusted his position following Lu Zu’s movement. The crossbow in his hand continued to discharge bolts.
Amon’s positioning ensured he was always out of Lu Zu’s reach. Amon was always Lu Zu’s target. He zoomed around killing Demon Gang members who were too slow, but his general direction was always toward Amon.
Amon was aware of that, but in terms of battlefield control, his experience far surpassed Lu Zu’s. This was especially so if he had underlings to command. He continued to order his people and adjust their positions to more strategically advantageous positions. The command he gave didn’t put his underlings in danger but out of it. This way, his underlings followed obediently, because they saw that he didn’t willingly sacrifice them. This also deterred them from fleeing despite facing a far superior opponent. Sadly, some were still killed because they were too slow to follow his commands.
The only one who could engage Lu Zu in a melee was Qiang Dan. Due to the others’ interference, he had a breather to reconjure his River Path. The stream of water swirled around him as he swung his glaive at Lu Zu. The water protected him from getting burned by the layer of flames surrounding Lu Zu.
However, he couldn’t win against Lu Zu before, he couldn’t win now. Amon called him to engage to give the others a breather to reposition. Amon told him to fight defensively. They were not in a hurry.
Hearing all those instructions, Lu Zu was getting more and more furious. Whatever happened, he must kill this Demon Gang leader today!
"F*ck off!!" His claw slammed hard into Qiang Dan’s glaive with a strong burst of flame. Qiang Dan tumbled to the side as blood trickled from his nose. The pressure of remaining close to Lu Zu took its toll on him.
Lu Zu shot at Amon again. Amon responded by moving away.
"Do not think you can flee!" Lu Zu roared. A big combustion occurred behind him. This combustion shot him forward at an incredible speed.
This surprised Amon, but he was not flustered. His body instinctively performed Lingering Shade Stride at the last instant. Lu Zu crashed into his afterimage.
Lu Zu failed to hit Amon, but the layer of flame around him touched Amon’s back.
"Hahaha. Die! You, bastard!" Lu Zu laughed, but his laughter soon stopped when he saw Amon jump away. Amon was not on fire.
"What? How...?" He didn’t understand why his fire didn’t ignite on Amon. The others he had killed were burned simply from a touch. Only Qiang Dan was unaffected by his flame, but that was due to Qiang Dan’s Mystic Stage cultivation and water element.
The reason the flame failed to burn Amon even after touching him was because of his Jue Body Suit. Like the Jue Ogre, the suit was not only sturdy but also highly resistant to elements. Even when the Jue Ogre lost an arm to Yong Ling’s powerful fire art, it didn’t get burned.
Lu Zu soon snapped from his consternation when another round of ranged attacks assailed him. He could feel his aether draining. He needed to finish this fast!
He ignited another explosion on his back to give him a speed boost. Amon again used Lingering Shade Stride to dodge. Lu Zu didn’t stay still like the last time after he missed. He immediately turned to land a follow-up blow, but Amon was also ready. A vine shot out from his hand after he dodged the first attack. This vine latched onto a pillar at the corner. Pulling the vine, he added momentum to his jumping boost, allowing him to react to Lu Zu’s speed and dodge his second attack.
Lu Zu didn’t believe he failed to catch his prey even after going all out. He was going to run out of aether. The fiery layer around him was thinning.
Amon noticed that. He jumped to Qiang Dan’s back and whispered something to him.
Lu Zu, who saw Amon behind Qiang Dan, thought Amon was scared and used Qiang Dan as a shield. Even so, this didn’t change his predicament. He looked around. He had killed almost half the enemies, but a good number were still alive. If he ran out of aether, he would not survive this.
A thought of escaping came to his mind as he glanced at the exit. He couldn’t believe he was backed into a corner like this. Fleeing would be humiliating, but humiliating was still better than death.
He made his decision and turned to the exit.
Amon read his attempt. "Do not let him escape!" He commanded.
