Chapter 258: Chapter 258. Heading to Grimwich Village

The sky stables were a deluxe service accessible to a few. Not every city had a sky stable. Only the big ones did, and Qishurg City was one of the big ones.

The sky stable in Qishurg City was at the Western edge of the city, right beside the city wall. It was a building shaped like an open umbrella. Its thick single pillar supported a vast canopy. Such architecture was impossible in Amon’s previous world. But here, the structure stood sturdy without any sign of faltering.

Inside the thick pillar was an elevator operated by mechanisms powered by multiple words of power with the energy generated from aer stones. This elevator was a service provided only to VIP guests.

Non-VIP guests had to use the winding stairs alongside the elevator pillar. For cultivators, several protrusions were provided along the surface of the pillar not touched by the stairs. One with good movement arts could use these protrusions as stepping stones to propel themselves up with speed.

Under Amon’s instructions, he and Tuang Yin came to the sky stable separately and in disguise. They only ditched their disguise after arrival. Since the two weren’t considered VIP guests, they had to use either the winding stairs or the protrusion steps. They chose to use the steps rather than slowly climbing the stairs. They jumped from one protrusion to another until they reached the huge canopy above.

Up there, they landed in a lobby. The elevator or the stairs also ended at this lobby. A female staff greeted them once they arrived.

"Welcome to Qishurg Sky Stable. May I check your identification?"

Tuang Yin produced a seal that contained the emblem of the Tuang Clan and showed it to the staff. "I am Tuang Yin from the Tuang Clan. I wish to use your service," she announced.

The staff browsed her list before checking the authenticity of the seal. After ensuring the seal was not forged, the staff said, "Good day, Miss Tuang. May I ask where you wish to go?"

"I wish to go to Grimwich Village," Tuang Yin answered.

"Going there will take around one day using a regular great eagle," the staff remarked. "The cost will be three thousand aer stones."

"What about a faster great eagle or a faster beast? What will it cost?" Amon asked. Three thousand was a lot, but he was wealthy enough.

The staff smiled apologetically. She said, "I’m sorry, young master. The Tuang Clan’s privilege only allowed the usage of regular great eagles."

"In that case, we will take it," Amon took out a bag of aer stones.

"Hey! I want to treat you to this ride," Tuang Yin said.

"Nonsense. I am the man," Amon uttered.

"Haven’t you heard about equality?" Tuang Yin asked.

"Fuck equality," Amon said and shoved the aer stones to the staff.

The staff happily received the payment. It didn’t matter who the payment was from. "This way," she said.

She brought the two to a door watched by a guard. The guard opened the door and ushered them inside. Behind the door was a pathway where its two sides were filled with large cages. Some of the cages contained great eagles. Some were empty. One of the empty ones had a staff inside cleaning up. There was also another staff going from one cage to another, filling up the feeder in each cage with water and raw meat. The great eagles inside the cages happily came to the filled feeders.

The female staff brought Amon and Tuang Yin to a large platform with an open wall to one side.

"This is the takeoff and landing platform. Please wait here while we fetch the great eagle," the staff informed. She talked to the caretaker of the place before leaving.

The caretaker also left. Not long after, he returned while leading a great eagle to the platform. This great eagle was half the size of the one that took them to Midnight Autumn Village. This showed that the great eagle owned by the royal academy was of a better class.

Though smaller, the howdah on its back was large enough to accommodate around ten passengers.

"I have communicated the destination to her. Once you board her, she will take you to Grimwich Village," the caretaker explained.

Tuang Yin thanked the caretaker while Amon jumped into the howdah.

After the two were settled inside the howdah, the caretaker signaled for the great eagle to depart. The great eagle screeched loudly while spreading its majestic wings. With a flap, it took off from the platform. In less than a minute, they were already above the clouds, riding the winds as the great eagle cruised through the air.

---------------

At the Capital of Echos, the Golden Stone City, a group of young people were hanging about inside the grand barrack next to the palace.

These young people were the Royal Academy’s graduates. After graduating, they didn’t immediately enter the kingdom’s service. They still went through multiple rigorous tests to determine the most suitable positions. Those who failed the early tests were offered lower positions within the kingdom. If they weren’t willing, they were sent back to their clans.

The complete tests lasted almost a year. The remaining here were the best of the best and would receive a higher position by the end of the test.

Among the group were the previous leaders of the Nobles and Virtuous factions, Gao Tien and Xian Yang. The two were among the most favored to claim the highest position attainable through these tests.

Four positions were available to the Royal Academy’s graduates. The senior captain was the highest. After that were the captain, the second lieutenant, and the first lieutenant. Another position was below the first lieutenant, Officer Cadet. This position was for those recruited from the masses. They were considered expendable foot soldiers.

Only one graduate was allowed the position of senior captain. Thus, Gao Tien and Xian Yang were still in fierce competition even after they graduated from the royal academy.

"Brother Gao, did something happen today? You seem to be in a good mood," Xian Yang greeted. The two had been rivals since they were students in the royal academy, but they always maintained civilized courtesy when they met in public.

"Do I show it?" Gao Tien chuckled. "I am happy because I received good news."

"What good news could have raised your mood so?" Xian Yang asked. "I believe the result of our last test had not been announced. Even if it did, it should be me whose mood is lifted."

"I see you are still as confident as usual," Gao Tien said. "No. The news I received has nothing to do with us here. It mainly concerns our juniors in the academy."

"What about them?" Xian Yang asked.

"Remember our greatest regrets before we graduated? We couldn’t help our juniors secure our factions’ future, but an opportunity has arisen. There is again another chance to rid the bane to our old factions, Lin Mo."

"Lin Mo?!" Xian Yang stood upon the mention of the name. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. He was a person who was proud of his cool demeanor under any circumstances, but the mention of the name threw him into a rage. "What about him?" He asked.

"My clan members in the faction had coincidentally noticed him in the sky stable with a member of the Tuang Clan. After asking around in the sky stable, in addition to a little greasing of the palm, we learned that the two were heading to Grimwich Village.

"Grimwich Village...? Never heard of it," Xian Yang said.

"It is an isolated village near Bleakford City," Gao Tien informed. "Some of the members in my Nobles faction are on their way to that village as we speak. They will make sure Lin Mo doesn’t make it back to the academy this time."

"I will have to be the one who deals with that kid!" Xian Yang exclaimed. His lovely sister, Xian Mei, never made it back from the Jue Ape mission. The official report said that Xian Mei was killed by a Jue Ogre. Although that might be true, he believed Lin Mo had something to do with her sister’s demise. The two were a team when they entered the cave, after all. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Brother Xian, just leave this matter to my Nobles faction. I’m sure they will help you enact revenge," Gao Tien said.

"Fuck that! I want to feel Lin Mo’s head in my hand when I crush his skull!" Xian Yang hissed. His usual handsome and calm face was now distorted into a hideous look.

"You are too emotional. We will have the final test soon. If you leave now, you will sacrifice all your efforts," Gao Tien said.

What Gao Tien said was true. If he left now, that would be a disrespect to the kingdom. Even if the kingdom was willing to accept him again when he returned, he would be lucky to get the position of second lieutenant.

Still, the rage currently burning in his heart was difficult to quell. He never had a chance to get to Amon due to how careful Amon was. When a chance presented itself, he knew he would regret it for life if he didn’t take it. Hence, even with the expense of his future, he would still go.

Xian Yang walked out with furious steps. Gao Tien just watched him with a mischievous smile.
