Chapter 273: Chapter 273. Changing Opponents

Yang Jun, Leng Ku, and Yang Su circled back after pretending to head to the inn. They hid behind a roof overseeing the park once they arrived. They were hopeful about Amon’s plan when they were on their way back. But after hearing the clashing sounds from the park, they knew things hadn’t gone as planned.

They peeked out, expecting to see Amon and Tuang Yin fighting the Pledge Demon. They were surprised to find unknown entities amid the confrontation.

"What the hell is going on?" Yang Su asked.

"Don’t know, but the plan has obviously failed already," Leng Ku answered.

"Damnit!" Yang Jun cursed. To build up a hopeful feeling and then see it crashing down was very frustrating.

"Should we help?" Yang Su asked.

"Which side?" Leng Ku asked in return. There seemed to be a three-sided confrontation down there.

"We can’t go against Yon Niang, that’s for sure," Yang Su replied. The curse in their body would activate if they did so.

"Come," Yang Jun stood.

"Huh? Which one are we helping?" Yang Su asked.

"We fight the new guy. That Royal Academy student must fulfill his promise to us," Yang Jun answered. He jumped from the roof.

Lightning was an infernal element. Something that was normally conjured using demonic arcane arts, but weapons or talismans could produce an assault utilizing infernal elements.

Such weapons and talismans were rare, though. In terms of talismans, the materials required to produce energy from the infernal elements were very hard to come by. Not to mention, they were also difficult to make. If not for Xian Yang having access to his clan’s resources, he wouldn’t be able to make the lightning arrow talisman even if he had the talent to make it.

It even seemed like he had a few such talismans. Amon could perceive the words of power on the talisman in Xian Yang’s hand to be the same as the one that conjured the lightning arrow before.

"Move away! His target is me. I will draw his attention," Amon instructed Tuang Yin. "You attack when I give you the signal, but use a leaping attack. Do not step on the ground around him. His domain is roughly twenty meters with him at the center."

Tuang Yin nodded. She moved away as instructed. Xian Yang simply watched them with a mocking smile.

Amon fired using his crossbow. Xian Yang easily cut the bolt apart when it came near. When Amon fired the crossbow in his right hand, the vine in his left also shot forward. Xian Yang wasn’t flustered by these consecutive assaults. His flexible sword coiled and struck the incoming vine right after cutting the bolt.

To his surprise, his sword couldn’t slice the vine. It only left a small nick on the vine. The vine curled as if a snake and came for Xian Yang’s head from behind.

"Hmph!" Xian Yang’s sword swiftly slapped the vine near its tip. He then pressed the vine downward using his sword. The vine was pushed until it touched the ground. The ground became as if quicksand when the vine touched it. It sucked the vine and refused to let go.

Amon had shot a second bolt when that happened. Xian Yang, whose sword was pressing the vine onto the ground, used a kick instead to deflect the incoming bolt. He also activated the talisman in his other hand.

The talisman burst into another blue lightning. Amon let go of the vine in his left hand so he could move. However, he still could not dodge despite knowing the timing of the attack. The lightning was simply too fast. He was more prepared this time, though. Instead of using his dagger to block, he used the Xian Cloth in his right arm.

He took several steps back from the blast. His body felt numb from the electrocution, but not as severe as the first time. The Xian Cloth didn’t completely block the lightning energy, but it mitigated it a great deal.

Xian Yang frowned when he saw how mild the effect of his talisman was this time. He then heard a cry from his Swift Spirit Sparrow. He turned and saw in consternation his pet was on the ground. Many wounds dripping with blood were visible on its body. The bone in its right wing was even broken. It couldn’t fly anymore. It fought the Pledge Demon using its beak and claws.

"How can this be?" Xian Yang asked in disbelief. He had been confident his pet was superior to any pet this village cultivator could produce. He had even augmented his pet’s power using a talisman. How could his pet lose? The enemy’s spirit beast didn’t even show any wound.

While he was still confused about the situation, three more villagers showed up. Two charged toward him, while the third approached Amon before going for him. This reinforced his belief that Amon had allied with these villagers.

He regretted now for not calling his friends to come here with him. He had rushed over here by himself. Firstly, because he didn’t want to risk Amon disappearing if he took too long a time. Secondly, because his Swift Spirit Sparrow could only carry one person.

’Doesn’t matter,’ he thought. Even if he was alone, he would defeat all these people!

"Keep your promise. Go for Yon Niang!" Yang Jun whispered when he passed by Amon. "We will deal with that man."

"Halt! He has a defensive earth domain!" Amon warned.

His warning was too late for Leng Ku and Yang Su. The two villagers were already within Xian Yang’s domain when they heard Amon’s warning. The ground gave way. They lost their balance. The ground then returned and swallowed their feet, making them unable to move. Xian Yang swung his sword. The sword produced multiple coiling sword lights that struck from a distance.

Leng Ku and Yang Su immediately covered their vital parts like Tuang Yin did when she was in the same situation. The sword lights stabbed into the two, causing bloody wounds.

"Bastard!!" Yang Jun exclaimed. He slammed his splitting axe to the ground. The energy wave it produced plowed through the ground and headed to Xian Yang.

Xian Yang thrust his sword at the incoming energy. His thrust caused a swirling torrent of sand. This torrent collided with Yang Jun’s energy wave. The resulting impact forced him to take a step back.

"Peak Transformation Stage...?" Xian Yang uttered after feeling the power behind the energy wave.

Yang Jun’s energy wave also destroyed Xian Yang’s defensive domain. With his control over the ground gone, Leng Ku and Yang Su broke the ground holding their feet. They had multiple wounds in their bodies, but they could still fight.

Yang Jun rushed forward after the defensive domain was gone. While advancing, he swung his axe and produced another energy wave.

Xian Yang jumped up. His feet glided in the air. He was floating while the energy wave passed underneath him. Such a feat was usually only achievable when one entered the Mystic Stage. He pulled this off using a movement art that let him walk in the air.

From the air, he thrust. Multiple coiling sword lights assailed Yang Jun. Yang Jun twirled his axe to parry, but some sword lights slipped past and left cut wounds on his body.

"Ahhh...!!!" He screamed while making a wide swing. This swing produced another energy wave. This wave collided with the sword lights and caused a booming sound.

"Heh! Truly a village bumpkin. You can only use one martial art?" Xian Yang mocked.

"Don’t get cocky, asshole!" Yang Su and Leng Ku came at Xian Yang from his flanks. Their clothes were red with their blood, but they didn’t retreat. Yang Jun also advanced when he saw his two comrades approaching.

"You might be the same cultivation level as me, but don’t you think this is a fair fight just because of that!" Xian Yang yelled at Yang Jun. Another talisman appeared in his hand.

The talisman flared just as the three villagers were about to land a hit on him. A translucent sphere appeared around him. The attacks from the three struck the sphere. They felt as if they had hit a solid iron wall. Not only that, but a strong repulsing force also burst out. They were thrown off-balance by the force.

When they lost their balance, Xian Yang glided in the air and came to Yang Su’s side. With one swipe, Yang Su’s head was cut clean off.

"No...! Su!!" Yang Jun called. Yang Su was both his cousin and friend. He couldn’t believe he was gone just like that.

"I will take your life...!!" Yang Jun swung his axe repeatedly. Each swing produced a violent wave of energy.

His martial art was very destructive, but it also consumed much aether. Executing it consecutively like this increased the expenditure of aether by many times. He wouldn’t be able to last long if he fought like this, but seeing Yang Su die had made him lose rationality.

"Haha! Don’t you think you can defeat me with such a brute art," Xian Yang laughed mockingly. He glided gracefully while dodging one wave after another.

He was suddenly alert because he remembered his main target for coming here. He hurriedly looked around but couldn’t locate Amon. Where was that prick? Did that asshole use the chance to flee when his attention was taken by these villagers?
